Friday Favorites: Last One for May

Happy Friday! It's the last day of May -- and I'm not going to lie, this month has been a bit like parenting: the days have been long (and full), but the month has been short. Whew! I'm excited for a bit of structure June will bring with camps, swim lessons and VBS.

But anyway, here are my favorites this week:

My best friend of 32 years was in town from Houston earlier this week, and I was just so happy I could have cried! Granted, the circumstances weren't the best: her grandmother had to have surgery and did so in Dallas. But I got to pick Lindsey up from the airport, have dinner with her at Mi Cocina, and she stayed the night at our house before heading to the hospital early the next morning. It was a short but sweet visit, which of course had me begging her to move to DFW. ;)

Definitely not a favorite, but: we've had some interesting weather here this week: sunshine and humidity, tornadoes, and then sunshine with no humidity. But yes, I did say tornadoes. Ugh. Thankfully we are all safe and had zero damage, but it was far worse in other parts of North Texas.

The sirens went off in our area and the boys and I had to seek shelter in our downstairs hall bath while Brandon was at work. I was so proud of how brave the boys were during it all, though. Knox kept telling me he didn't want a "tomato" to come. (Add that to the list of words I hope he never says correctly.) But I'm just thankful we were safe; I can't stand Texas spring weather!

Weather aside, we've been able to enjoy some splash pad fun this week! The boys love splash pads and I practically have to drag them home -- but I'm thankful for the great naps that follow. :) (I also may have been a bit more prepared for the first visit to the splash pad vs. the second...whoops!)

Knox's rash guard \\ Knox's swim trunks

I've been on a mission to better organize our bathroom cabinets and drawers (and the remaining few kitchen drawers that I've yet to organize since we moved in a year ago). And, of course, Target to the rescue! I got these storage bins for under my kitchen sink and these acrylic drawer organizers to hold miscellaneous non-makeup drawer items (e.g. brushes, teasing combs, etc.) Target FTW!

And, as I do every week, I wanted to share some Amazon favorites. But before I get to that, I had to share that I ordered these wooden spoons only to be delivered a completely empty package. That's never happened before -- ha! Thankfully Amazon refunded me and let me order them again, but I just thought that was so crazy!

Anyway, moving on to my Amazon favorites from the week:

+ These spatulas ($9.95/ea.) -- after nearly nine years of marriage, I'm slowly having to upgrade some of our kitchen tools/small appliances we got for our wedding showers. These spatulas were one of those things!

+ This room freshener spray ($13.71 for a two-pack) -- This is my favorite Mrs. Meyer's scent and I haven't been able to find it in-store, so Amazon to the rescue!

I hope everyone has great weekends!

What's Up Wednesday: May 2019

Happy Wednesday, y'all! I thought I'd link up with Shay today for "What's Up Wednesday" since I haven't done so since March (what?!). So let's get to it!

1. What We're Eating This Week
Monday: BBQ at my in-laws' house for Memorial Day
Tuesday: I went to dinner with my BFF who was in town from Houston and the boys ate leftovers
Wednesday: Steak bites with sautéed spinach and cauliflower mash
Thursday: Low-Carb Crustless Taco Pie and kale salad
Friday: Dinner with friends to celebrate a birthday
Saturday: Pizza night at home (we love the Caulipower brand frozen pizzas!)
Sunday: Grilled chicken, low-carb twice-baked cauliflower and roasted broccolini

2. What I'm Reminiscing About
Well, first of all, the Instagram "Memories" function about kills me every day! Seeing photos of my babies from last summer (and the summers before) just makes me want to melt into a pile of tears.

But, other than that, I'm reminiscing about the sweet little week we had two weeks ago celebrating Walker's Pre-K graduation and Knox's third birthday party.

3. What I'm Loving
A few of my favorite things lately (aside from a few outfits I posted down on #10):

+ The Just Ingredients Instagram page: I'm loving finding simple, healthy swaps to make in my kitchen and medicine cabinet!

+ This hairspray: it smells amazing and it has three levels of hold to choose from, all with the twist of the nozzle!

+ This cleansing gel for the boys: it smells SO good and I love that it's made with all-natural ingredients

4. What We've Been Up To
This month was filled with so much (as May tends to be). This month we: kicked off pool season with our first dip in the pool -- and many more since then!; had our neighbors over; celebrated Cinco de Mayo; had the boys' precious Mother's Day Teas at preschool; celebrated Mother's Day at home; had lots of play dates with friends: the Perot Museum, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, Playstreet Museum, the splash pad, and Altitude Trampoline Park; enjoyed the extra hours of daylight with ice cream from the ice cream truck; celebrated the boys' last days of school, Walker's graduation and Knox's third birthday all within two days of each other; Brandon took the boys golfing; we went to Great Wolf Lodge; and celebrated Memorial Day! Whew!

5. What I'm Dreading
Kindergarten, plain and simple. I don't know if "dreading" is the right word, but it just makes me sad to see Walker growing up so quickly. He's going to have a ball and is so ready, but it's me that's not!

6. What I'm Working On
Random projects around the house: finally updating the boys' baby books with pictures (you know, after five years); touching up paint randomly across the house where it needs to be touched up; and doing lots of organizing.

7. What I'm Excited About
To be honest: all of our summer activities starting up next month! The boys will go to their preschool's summer camp next week, then swim lessons the following week, back to summer camp, and then at my parents' for a week. I really thrive on routine and structure and I think those couple of days of camp, swim lessons, camp again and then time with the grandparents will help us all. ;)

8. What I'm Watching/Reading
Watching: The Bachelorette, RHOBH and RHONY, Imposters (on Netflix) and I'm dying to start the new Ted Bundy biopic with Zac Efron (also on Netflix).

Reading: "The Masterpiece" by Francine Rivers -- my mom let me borrow it and I'm really liking it so far!

9. What I'm Listening To
Am I an awful mother if I answer this question: "My children argue?" Ha, but seriously, summer is doing number on them being together 24/7. I don't think either one of them is going to hate some time apart next week at their preschool's summer camp. ;)

10. What I'm Wearing
Well, it's summer, so half of the time I'm donning a swimsuit! And speaking of swimsuits, I bought this one on Amazon and Brandon loved it so much that I bought it again in blue and green! It's such a flattering one-piece; it covers in all the right places, but the one-shoulder gives it a bit more of a "something" than a regular one-piece.

I'm also loving this dress (also an Amazon find) to just throw on this summer when I want to be cool (literally, it's hot here!) and casual, but somewhat put together.

And also this shirt, this maxi dress, and this wrap-front top -- all from Old Navy. They're perfect to throw on this summer to be cute, pulled together, yet comfortable.

11. What I'm Doing This Weekend
We are planning to go to dinner with friends to celebrate a birthday, and that is it! It's nice to have slow weekends with no plans. (And yay for Brandon's summer hours -- he gets home before lunchtime on Fridays!)

12. What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month
The boys' summer camps, swim lessons and vacation with my parents. Yay for structure! Ha!

13. What Else is New
I think we've covered it all. Happy Wednesday, friends!
