Father's Day Weekending

Happy Monday, friends! I hope everyone had a great weekend celebrating the dads in their lives. We had a fun weekend celebrating Brandon with lots of yummy food; I'm back on the eating well train this week.

The boys and I just hung around the house on Friday morning before Brandon got home from his Summer Friday at 11:30. It's so nice to have lazy mornings sometimes!

We headed out to lunch at Mi Cocina, then popped in Williams-Sonoma before heading home, where the boys promptly posted themselves on the couch with some popcorn and watched a World Cup game.

After naps, Brandon took Walker out to play golf for the first time. It was so precious! They got in nine holes while Knox and I made a Target run.

Friday night once the boys were in bed, Brandon and I couldn't decide what we wanted to eat for supper, so we made a very non-fancy charcuterie plate: fresh-cut watermelon, Wheat Thins, pimento cheese and summer sausage -- and of course, a glass of wine. We picked on that while we watched "A Bad Moms Christmas" and then went to bed.

Since Sundays are often crazy in our house, we celebrated Father's Day a day early! Walker helped me get breakfast ready: Kodiak Cakes Protein Packed blueberry lemon muffins, cheesy scrambled eggs, watermelon, coffee and mimosas! We served it to Brandon in bed and he watched a few minutes of a World Cup game. (AKA: basically his perfect day, ha!)

We then opened presents; he got a new pair of sunglasses after losing his to the Gulf of Mexico on our beach trip, these grill prep trays, and a hilarious coffee mug {sold out, but similar here}

We then spent the rest of the morning/afternoon in the pool!

After we all napped, we took my father-in-law his Father's Day gift, and then came back home and I made a yummy meal for Father's Day! I made The Pioneer Woman's Comfort Meatballs and homemade mashed potatoes, along with my grandmother's famous cherry cream pie recipe. We were super cool and watched a special on Tonya Harding and called it an early night.

We were up and at 'em and headed to church. The boys all looked so precious, so of course I had to snap a couple of pictures.

The rest of the afternoon was spent doing super un-fun things: laundry, picking up the house, cleaning a bit, getting our cars cleaned out (how do they become such a mess so quickly!?) and getting things ready for the week. And, I even got to sneak in a nap while Brandon worked out. Happy Father's Day, right?! ;)

And speaking of this week, the boys both have swimming lessons Monday-Thursday, so I'm excited to see how much they're going to learn! I hope y'all have wonderful weeks!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, friends! I'm sorry for my lack of posting this week; honestly, the time just got away from me and we were just having too much fun that sitting down to my computer became harder and harder as the week went on.

Anyway, I hope y'all had wonderful weeks and are looking forward to a fun-filled Father's Day weekend! Here are a few things I'm loving this Friday:

I have a major sweet tooth and always crave something sweet after lunch and dinner, but also don't want something that's a million calories, either. So when I found these "Gone Bananas!" dark chocolate covered banana slices at Trader Joe's, I scooped them up! At only 25 calories per piece, they're the perfect thing to satiate my sweet craving. (And yes, I know we could totally make these, but there are just some things I'll use the "Easy Button" on and this is one of them!)

When Brandon was gone last weekend, I sat in the tub and scoured the Internet for a cute, ruffled, one-shoulder one-piece bathing suit. Tall order, right?! But I knew what I wanted and of course who to the rescue but Amazon. I ordered this $19 suit thinking it might not be as cute on me as it was on the model, but it came in and I actually really like it! I would advise you to size up one size. I'm normally a small (2/4) and ordered the medium (6/8) and it was perfect. I just wish I had it for our beach trip!

We stumbled upon the "90's Summer Hits" station on Spotify this week and we are hooked! All of my 80's-born babies, these are the songs from our middle school/early high school years and we found ourselves singing along to every song!

Walker did a little STEM-based LEGO camp this week through Bricks 4 Kidz, and he really enjoyed it -- so much so that he asked to go back next year! (Which I'm totally onboard with.) He built so many cool things, did little crafts, and it was the perfect two-hour length for him to get out of the house and have some fun, and for me to run a few errands with just one child. I'd totally recommend this camp!

And meanwhile, Knox and I had some fun of our own, in addition to running errands. ;)

Our sweet realtor (who just so happens to also be our sister-in-law's mom) came by earlier this week and brought us lunch, a gift for the boys, and a housewarming gift. Our gift was this adorable sign she had made to hang outside by the pool. I thought it was so cute and so thoughtful, and it looks precious on our patio!

I've been on such an organizing kick this week after I saw my high school friend, Megan, post her Instagram stories about organizing her own house. I started with my pantry and did a little bit outside in the garage and whew, it feels so much better to have things organized! It's therapy, that's for sure.

I stupidly didn't take a "before" picture of my pantry, but here are the afters:

First picture: The bin on the top row is this one from Target; the bins on the second and fourth rows (and the one to the far right on the fifth row) are these from Target; the bins on the third row are from the Dollar Tree; and the bins on the fifth row are old from Target that I already had (similar here). I found my tiered organizers from Tuesday Morning, but these are similar.

Second picture: The Lazy Susans are these from Target; the basket with soap in it is from the Dollar Tree; and the two baskets on the bottom two shelves are old from Target that I already had (similar here)

Did anyone see how gorgeous the Duchess of Sussex looked on Thursday when she visited Cheshire with the Queen? I loved her Givenchy dress and thought she looked so at ease -- and the Queen clearly looked like she enjoyed Meghan's company. (And I love that she got to ride on the royal train before even her husband!)

Happy Monday, friends! We're gearing up for a fun week for Walker; he's doing a little STEM-based LEGO camp for four days and he's so excited about it. The boy loves him some LEGOs!

We had a pretty slow weekend around here. Brandon played in a 36-hole golf tournament in Austin with his dad, brother and friend Jared (my friend Victoria's husband) and was gone Friday afternoon until Sunday just at lunchtime. So "The Three Musketeers" had a low-key weekend together.

Here's what we were up to:

We had a very lazy morning at home and ran a few errands, and when Brandon got off work and was home by 11:30 a.m., we had lunch at Bread Winners as a family before Brandon and Jared left for Austin.

The boys and I had a lazy evening, and I got into a hot bath with a glass of wine and watched the SATC marathon that E! was playing all weekend. {This bath caddy is my favorite thing, as are these reusable ice cubes!}

And while I was in the tub, I got a text from Brandon with this picture of Jared, his car and them in a tire shop in the middle of nowhere. Apparently construction on I-35 (that is never-ending, I swear!) caused the flat and they had to convince this guy to open his shop up to help them out after trying two other places. Of course I was a nervous wreck, but thankful it was able to be fixed and they made it to Austin safely.

Brandon played in his golf tournament all day long, and the boys and I had a little "day-o-fun." We started with a little donut date in jammies (them, not me!)...

...and The Flying Nun joined us on a quick errand... ;)

...and also at Chick-fil-A for lunch before...

...heading to our local outdoor water park! We swam in the outside pool and the indoor one, did all the slides that the boys were tall enough for, and took many trips around the lazy river. It was such a fun time!

We ended our afternoon with snow cones and then long naps for the boys while I got a lot of stuff picked up around the house.

Our evening was very slow. I made spaghetti for supper and then we watched a Christmas movie together before they went to bed and I watched the first episode of "American Woman," which I feel will be my new summer addiction.

I slept horribly while Brandon was gone, so we laid low Sunday morning and hung out until Brandon got home. We all had lunch together at Chuy's, stopped by Tiff's Treats for a cookie, and then all took 2.5-hour naps, which was glorious -- especially since I hadn't slept the night before!

I made this for supper, the boys swam a bit while I folded laundry, and Brandon and I called it an early night.

I hope y'all have wonderful weeks!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, friends!

First of all, I wanted to share that I'm not receiving comment notifications via Gmail from Blogger, and even though I know it's working to be resolved right now, I just wanted y'all to know that I do see the comment, but I can't reply to you. So thank you for your patience and I appreciate your sweet comments! :)

So y'all know that I've been a loyal patron of Walmart Online Grocery for more than two years. But, someone recently helped themselves to a couple of grocery orders on my dime (and picked them up using my name), and that just gave me a bitter taste in my mouth. So, I did some research and decided to try Instacart for the first time, and I must say, I'm obsessed! I was able to order from two separate stores -- ALDI and Kroger -- and I spent less on my order plus delivery than I would at Walmart pickup! Trying ALDI for the first time was also fun, and I think I'm going to be pretty fond of that store.

Do y'all have any tried-and-true ALDI favorites?! Please tell me what to buy!

Also, if you want to try out Instacart, here is a coupon code for $20 off your first order + free delivery!

We had some friends come over to swim and play yesterday, and it just made my heart so happy! Walker and Silas have been buddies since they were 16 months (Silas) and 18 months (Walker) and Knox has never known a time without knowing these friends. Anyway, they came over to swim and of course my friend Stacy brought their newborn daughter, Olivia, and Walker was just in heaven with her. As April said to me when I sent her this picture, "That's just a love hug!" Isn't that the truth!?

Even though we moved into our house two months ago (yesterday!), I'm still on a mission to organize drawers and closets. I threw so much stuff in those things just to get cardboard boxes out of my house and onto the recycling truck, and it's finally wearing on my nerves seeing all of that disorganization. Anyway, I bought a couple of these adjustable acrylic drawer organizers for my kitchen recently and I have been so impressed with their quality. They totally rival the Container Store's organizers (to me anyway)! Now onto organizing the office closet...

I always have the hardest time buying Father's Day gifts, mostly because the men in my life are so apt to just go out and buy themselves whatever they want. So trying to come up with something unique, useful and thoughtful is always a challenge. Anyway, I got Brandon something he needed (new sunglasses after losing his to the Gulf of Mexico on our beach trip), a funny coffee mug as a joke, and these grill prep trays. He's always using my nicer dishes to take out and bring in meat, and I'm always worried he's going to drop them and they'll shatter everywhere. So these were a good (cost-effective) solution!

Since it's summer, I pretty much live in either my bathing suit or leggings/Nike shorts during the day and honestly really only get "dressed" for church on Sunday. (And I secretly love it.) Anyway, I saw these leggings at Target, of all places, and thought they totally rivaled Lululemon leggings! So just a PSA that good ol' Target does it again!

I hope y'all have wonderful weekends! Brandon's playing in a golf tournament, so the "Three Musketeers" will be spending a ton of time in the pool and laying low!

What's Hap-pinning Wednesday: Life Lately

Hi, friends! The boys have been out of school and BSF for about three weeks and so while it's taken a bit of getting used to (for all of us!) being home 24/7, but we've had a sweet little summer so far. Here's a bit of life lately:

+ We have spent a lot of time swimming in our pool with friends and sometimes even just the three of us until Brandon gets home and joins us.

+ And speaking of swimming, we had Knox's second birthday party at our house and that was so much fun celebrating our precious little guy.

+ We have hung out with friends at local indoor play places to beat the heat; it was already upwards of 100* here and I just cannot with that in June. Usually we don't get heat like that until at least late in the month and into July. I've lived here my entire life and every year I'm just shocked by just how hot (and humid) it gets in the summer.

+ We have visited Brandon's office to see him and have lunch together, which the boys loved "helping Daddy sell money." ;)

+ We have had family game nights and family movie nights with popcorn, of course!, and so far Knox is the winner of Candyland, much to Walker's chagrin.

+ I had a fun night out celebrating a girlfriend's birthday, and it was so nice to not be "Mommy" but "Brittany" for about 16 hours!

+ I kept a girlfriend's boys while she had a doctor's appointment and whew, let me just say that I have major respect for those of you with four (or more!) children. I was ready for a nap after having all four boys, ages 4, 3 and two 2-year-olds.

+ We visited the local humane society to see the animals and see what items they could use for a donation. Part of our summer bucket list (more on that later!) is to donate items like cat litter, food, etc. to our humane society.

+ We have gone on fun little outings, like to Steel City Pops for a gourmet popsicle; to Trader Joe's and let them push their own buggies across the store; and to my in-laws' to play.

+ Next week, Walker's going to a little STEM camp all about LEGOs; the next week, both boys have swimming lessons; and the next week, they'll head down to my parents' house for a week spent with grandparents and VBS at my parents' church. :) Lots of fun packed into this month for them, and for us, too: my sister-in-law's baby shower, a night out to see the Rangers play baseball, and hopefully we'll sneak in a date night before July gets here, but we shall see.

+ And in reference to our Summer Bucket List, I decided the boys were at a good age to do one this year. I've never been a huge fan of them for whatever reason, but I thought it was a good marker for the boys to get to do some fun things they want to do and also some educational things snuck in there that are fun, too. I let them (Walker, really...Knox had no clue, ha!) tell me what they wanted to do and I added my touch on it, too. So here's what's on our 2018 Summer Bucket List:

  • Wash Mommy and Daddy's cars (Walker)
  • Play with toys with Mommy (Walker)
  • Look at toys at Toys 'R' Us (Walker)
  • Make cookies with Mommy and Knox (Walker)
  • Movie night with popcorn (Walker) -- check!
  • Go see a movie at the theater (Walker)
  • Make homemade popsicles (me)
  • Take a donation to the local humane society (me)
  • Take a meal to a friend (me)
  • Memorize a Bible verse (me)
  • Make homemade Play-Dough (Walker)
If y'all have any fun, simple little things to add that you're doing, please let me know in the comments! I'm open for any ideas! :)
