Five Things

Our weekend was filled with trips to Home Depot and lots {and lots} of home projects -- and that's boring to anyone (even me!). So, in lieu of my traditional "Weekending" post, I'm going to join the bandwagon and share with you five things about me, as well as five random things you may {or may not} know.

So here we go!

{1} Where do you live?
We live in a suburb of Dallas, Texas, and have lived here for six years. {I lived in Dallas for three years before that.} I'm originally from the small town of Livingston, Texas.

{2} If married, how long and where did you and your spouse meet?
We have been married for a little over seven years. We met in a Nonverbal Communications class at Baylor University in January 2008 {10 years ago!}. You can read our love story here

{3} If you have kids, how many and how old?
Yes, we have two boys: Walker (4 in one week) and Knox (20 months).

{4} Favorite trip you've ever taken?
I think my study abroad trip in college will forever be a "best trip." I studied abroad in Europe for a little over six weeks in the summer of 2007 -- 6 weeks in London with a week in Italy beforehand -- and it was by far the best summer of my life. My roommate became one of my very best friends, too, which was an awesome bonus from the trip! :) It forged my love of British history (and the Royal Family) and solidified my love for London. I hope to get back there someday with Brandon.

{5} Favorite meal?
It's a tie between good ol' Southern cooking: fried chicken, mashed potatoes with brown gravy, fried okra, creamed corn and homemade cherry cream pie for dessert...or a delicious filet mignon, truffled macaroni and cheese, spinach gratin and a glass of Pinot Noir.

And now for the five random things about me:

{1} I was crowned Miss Polk County my senior year of high school.
The pageant is a local one and doesn't go any further than just my little hometown, but it's a big deal there. I honestly didn't really have any expectations other than to do it, but I won! My mom and my aunt were both first runners up, and so it was fun to keep it in the family. And in fact, Emily was first runner up the same year and told me {jokingly}: "If you die, it's mine!" Haha, I will forever remember that! Makes me giggle every time.

{2} I love the taste of coconut, but hate the texture of actual coconut.
So give me all the piña coladas, but please don't give me a coconut cake or slice of coconut cream pie. Gives me the heebie jeebies!

{3} I worked for a PR agency doing public relations for American Airlines and was there during their bankruptcy and merger.
Yep, I literally woke up one day to the news that American Airlines was filing for Ch. 11 bankruptcy and worked for them all through that and post-merger. I actually walked into American's headquarters one day and walked out the same evening to a completely different company when they merged with US Airways. It was a very stressful almost four years, but it was also one of the most fun. I had so many opportunities and made so many wonderful friends out of my (now former) clients. I wouldn't trade that experience for the world.

{4} I am left-handed.
They say that we think with the right side of our brain, right?! ;) But I'm a little weird with some of the things I'll do left-handed; for example, I write, eat, cut with a knife and shoot a gun all left-handed, but I cut with scissors right-handed and my dominate kicking foot is my right one. Clearly I'm all over the place.

{5} I am a germaphobe and a clean freak.
I use Wet Ones and hand sanitizer on my kids, husband and myself on the regular, and I honestly can't go to bed without my house picked up. If I know my house is messy or dirty, I honestly start to get anxious. Cleaning is my therapy.

  4. That's crazy you worked for American! I work for the major airline's cruise subsidiaries, so when American was absorbed by US, I had to change all the branding on our side - it was crazy!

  6. Such a fun post!! Totally with you on the germaphobe. Those tendencies are in overdrive with all this nasty flu stuff going around! What a crazy time to work in PR with American! I bet that was so interesting and a huge learning experience.
