Thoughts for Thursday: Coffee Talk

If we were sitting down together having coffee this morning, we would have a lot to chat about. A few things:

\\ Walker's first day of school is in approximately two weeks and I can't believe it. While I enjoy the structure and routine of the school year, I will definitely miss the slower, easier summer days and the "flying by the seat of our pants" on activities. I just feel like once school starts, it's just pretty insane until about January. Whew, I'm getting antsy just thinking about it.

\\ Speaking of Walker, his poor little head had to be glued together on Monday morning...and it was all my fault. And yes, I feel horrible.

Knox was taking his morning nap on Monday, and Walker and I were playing "Airplane" {or "Super Man"} on my bed -- a game we play often. He loves it, and I do, too! Usually Walker will "land" on the pillows of our made bed. But this time, he did a barrel roll and the back of his head landed right on the corner of my nightstand. I seriously just watched it all happen in slow motion and couldn't get to him fast enough. I couldn't hear anything but silence and as soon as he started crying, I whipped back into reality and ran over to him...and blood was everywhere. I immediately went into panic mode, grabbing a washcloth from my bathroom and telling him to hold it on his head while I slipped on my flip-flops and grabbed Knox out of his bed. I put them both in the car as quickly as possible and drove like a bat out of hell to the pediatrician's office. I didn't even realize until I was getting the boys out of the car to rush into the pediatrician's office that Walker was barefoot and Knox was still in his sleep sack. (Insert monkey covering its eyes emoji here) The nurses immediately whisked us all back into a room and they came in to assess, clean and then glue Walker's head back together.

Thankfully Walker was so calm during the entire thing. The only time he cried was when they told him they had to cut a little patch of his hair in order to glue his scalp back together. And sweet Knox in his sleep sack was just happy as a clam. But of course I was a blubbering mess and felt terrible. But, after a sticker at the doctor's office, a couple of doses of Tylenol/Motrin throughout the day, a trip to Dairy Queen for a hot fudge sundae, a visit to both the library and the fire station, and a sweet cookie delivery from his best friend, Walker was {and is} doing great. He can't wash his hair or go swimming until Saturday, but overall, he's such a champ and I'm so proud of him.

But I still feel horrible.

\\ On a much lighter note, did anyone else think this season of "The Bachelorette" was pretty terrible? I really liked Rachel...until the final episode when she told Peter "The Bachelor isn't for you." I totally think Bryan is sleazy and I just wasn't impressed with him in the least. I did, however, love Twitter on Monday night! My favorite tweet said, "Peter won the popular vote and Bryan won the Electoral College." I about spit my water out reading that! Ha!

\\ I helped my mother-in-law sort some of my nieces' old baby clothes and my boys' old baby clothes for an upcoming garage sale she's having and oh my word, y'all, I seriously got teary a few times looking at my sweet babies' old newborn clothes. They grow so fast and I told my mother-in-law, "We are so done having babies, but nothing makes me want to have one more than looking at these sweet newborn-sized gowns." Time is such a thief!

\\ Does anyone have a LEGO table for their kids? Walker is super into LEGOs (and Knox loves to play with the Duplo sets, too!) and so Brandon and I thought their big gift this year could be a LEGO table. But there are so many options and I'm just overwhelmed. We were eyeing this one; any thoughts?

\\ Brandon and I are attempting to cut out a good chunk of dairy and wheat from our diets, and so far we've done really well. Aside from cheese, I honestly don't eat too much dairy and couldn't tell you the last time I drank a glass of milk. But we just noticed some health issues stemming from eating a lot of that, so we are trying to cut back and eat more quinoa, rice, veggies, meats and do more soy/almond/cashew-milk based products instead. It's so funny how I'm honestly not missing all of that stuff, either!

\\ I have a massage scheduled for Saturday afternoon and I'm so excited about it I could burst. I seriously feel like a kid on Christmas Eve. Ha!

\\ I despise ironing clothes. I let it pile up for weeks on top of our dryer until the pile is so big it falls over, and then I'm stuck ironing for hours upon hours upon hours. Please tell me I'm not the only one?

So, what are you confessing today?

Linking up with Annie, Natalie and Julie

  1. poor walker, he's such a trooper and you handled that so well! I would have flipped my lid haha. I am impressed you're cutting dairy and wheat. I need to do that, but man I love some cheese! A massage sounds awesome, you deserve it! Ironing? Who irons? haha i never do, so you are not alone!!

  2. I was starting to think it was time for Shep to get a LEGO table too. I like the one you found. I wonder if it's possible to just add some lego boards to the Melissa & Doug table we have now though? Do you have that one for trains? Oh the life of a boy mom!

  3. Amen on The Bachelorette. This was my first season ever watching every episode of the franchise and really liked Rachel at the start, but feel like she settled because Brian wanted to "win" and would propose. From what I've heard/read, people are more upset about the finale than normal?

And, if you really want to try no gluten and dairy, have you looked into the Whole30? (I feel like you may have done thsi before?). I've done it about half a dozen times and really identified what affects me.

  4. Poor Walker! Sounds like he was so brave though! Don't be too hard on yourself -- accidents happen!!!

  5. So glad Walker is feeling better! I think my cousin has a similar lego table & he loves it! I didn't watch this season of the Bachelorette because I wasn't a Rachel fan and just was over the series (besides BIP because that's just straight funny) but I watched some of the highlights and the tweets were hilarious. She came across really badly on the live interviews and Peter looked like a class act. On dairy & wheat, you know we're doing the same! We are loving unsweetened almond milk and also love earth balance vegan butter. Also, I know you all love pizzas, the frozen Daiya ones are no dairy and vegan and at Pizza Hut the thin crust & marinara sauce are vegan so you can get your pizza like that without cheese (or add some shredded vegan cheese once you get home). Just a few ideas! Ironing? Ha. I don't purchase clothes that require ironing. Seriously. I'm not good at it and I don't intend to be. If I have to buy something that needs to be ironed, it goes to the drycleaner. I just decided to accept that it's not my thing & outsource.

  6. Aw poor Walker and mama! That's so great both boys did so well during a stressful situation and that's great y'all were able to be seen quickly! I hope he's doing better and healing quickly :) Ugh, you are not alone on the ironing problem... every time I ask myself why I let it pile up... it's the worst but it does give me an excuse to set up shop in front of the TV and get a few good hours in lol!

  7. Poor Walker and mama! I am glad he is ok. We've really cut back on dairy since I started studying nutrition and I don't miss it. I don't think I'll ever give it up completely because I love a good charcuterie board for girls' night but I feel a lot better when it is limited. So jealous of your massage!

  8. Ugh, poor mama and poor Walker! So glad he's okay, but I can only imagine how shaken up you were. Mom guilt is the worst!! And I TOTALLY agree about the bachelorette. I loved Rachel all season, and I was kind of shocked about how she was acting on the last episode. Like she really just wanted to get engaged on national TV, didn't care which guy it was to. So sad!

  9. SO jealous of your massage!! You totally deserve it. I am so glad Walker is ok.. a tough boy! Aaaand you totally need a steamer. SO much easier than ironing!!!
