Weekending

Happy Monday, y'all! We had a super busy, fun weekend full of celebrating, so let's get right to it!

FRIDAY:

+ While Knox took his morning nap, Walker and I made homemade Play-Dough! It was so super easy {we used this recipe} and I love that it doesn't have that distinct Play-Dough smell like the ones in the containers you buy at the store.

+ It was an absolutely gorgeous spring day here in North Texas, so we took full advantage of it and met some friends at a local park for a picnic lunch. Walker and his buddy, Smith, were too busy running around the playground to even think of taking pictures with us, but Knox and his buddy, Sawyer, loved sitting on the blanket with the mamas and Knox even snuck a French fry...or seven. ;)

+ We went out for a long walk after the boys' afternoon naps, and y'all, I just couldn't believe our gorgeous Texas sky! Not a cloud in sight and the temperature was perfect.

+ A friend gave us their old Big Wheel bike for Walker to have, and when he saw me get it out of the back of my car, he proclaimed: "COME TO PAPA!" Y'all, I was crying I was laughing so hard. Where does he get this stuff?!

+ I fed the boys an early supper {Walker loves this pasta salad!}, Brandon got home from work, we did the always entertaining bath/bedtime routines and got the boys down for bed.

+ Once they were asleep, Brandon made me an extra dirty martini {one of my favorites after a long week} and we settled in to watch "Patriots Day." It was a great movie, but extremely hard to watch in some parts and just broke my heart thinking about the Boston community.

-SATURDAY:

+ Walker had soccer practice, and Brandon went with him while I stayed home with Knox while he napped.

+ My parents drove four hours up to Dallas to see me and celebrate my birthday a week early! It was so, so good to see them -- and see, I got an updated picture of them and the boys! ;) It was such a treat having them here, and I'm so thankful they chose to spend eight hours on the road in one day to spend time with us. {And yes, y'all, Texas really is that big: four hours and still in the same state!}

+ We had a delicious brunch at Breadwinners with my parents, one of my brothers, my aunt, and of course, Brandon and the boys. I ordered the Blood Orange Frozen Mimosa and Crab Cakes Benedict. My word, y'all, I devoured almost everything on my plate.

+ We came back to our house after brunch and my Mom gave the boys the cutest little Easter baskets; she and my Dad played outside and blew bubbles with them; and my Mom even gave Knox a ride in Walker's giant dump truck. Ha!

+ My parents and brother headed back home, and the boys went down for a quick nap before we went to see Thomas the Train at "Day Out With Thomas" at the Grapevine Vintage Railroad!

The working railroad in Grapevine actually puts a Thomas the Train engine on the train in place of the traditional one. Its eyes and mouth move, and it's the coolest thing. We had no idea there would be so much to do aside from the 25-minute train ride, but there was! I told Brandon as we pulled up, "Ummm, babe. This is totally a thing!" In addition to the train ride {which had a conductor going up and down the aisles stamping tickets and Thomas music playing}, they had a petting zoo, fair food, a miniature train exhibit, a clown, a magician, little ride-on Thomas's, a gift shop, water tables, temporary tattoos and face painting. It was adorable and the boys had the best time!

I finally got to wear my new earrings and top I just love them both!

+ By the time it was over, we were all beat from our busy day. We picked up hamburgers to go from a local hole-in-the-wall joint, gave the boys quick baths and put them down for bed. I took a shower myself, we watched a bit of the NCAA March Madness action and called it a super early night.

-SUNDAY:

+ It was such a nasty, stormy day -- and we were all just beat and needed a day at home -- that we played hooky from church and stayed in jammies all day. The boys loved watching the rain fall and Brandon and I played with them while also getting a ton of stuff done around the house: laundry, ironing, cleaning up, and preparing some things for our trip this weekend. Sometimes you just need a lazy day at home with nothing on the agenda!

  9. Haha, it blew my mind that DC and New York were a four hour drive when I moved here. People always ask when I go to Houston if I'm going to "pop up to Dallas" to see my parents. No, folks, that's not really a day trip. Knox's face in the dump truck is hilarious!
