Weekending: Spring Break Edition

After what has seemed like the longest first quarter of 2017, filled with sickness, major house renovations and just life...we actually had a seemingly "normal" weekend and were able to relax, get stuff done and just enjoy spending time together.

But before I begin, I'm sure you have seen on the news the deaths of three people in the Texas Panhandle due to wildfires. Well, one of them, Sloan Everett, was my brother-in-law's best friend. While I didn't spend too much time around Sloan, the time I did spend was spent around a man who loved Jesus, loved his family and wanted others to know about the love of God. My heart is breaking for Sloan's family {including his sister, Caroline}; Sloan's friends; and the Baylor family. Sloan and his widow, Liesl, have two young children and one baby on the way. While the world has lost a great man, Heaven has gained a saint. Please remember this family in your prayers.

All of that news really hit Brandon and me hard this week. Every night, Sloan's death prompted conversations between us about life, death and life after death. But more than anything, it just reminded us that life on this earth is so fleeting and to enjoy each other, our children and the time we have while we have it.

So, moving on to our weekend, which was full of enjoying...we:

+ Met Stacy and her sweet kiddos at The Galleria to play on Friday morning

+ Got to enjoy having Brandon home a little early on Friday afternoon due to his local trade show ending, and therefore hit up a local park to enjoy the gorgeous spring-like weather. The boys loved sliding, swinging and running in the grass {Walker} and sitting in it/eating it {Knox}. Walker starts soccer on Saturday, so Brandon had him out there kicking the ball around to try to prepare him a bit. Let's just say that Saturday morning is going to be super interesting and hilarious -- and I can't wait!

Is there anything cuter than chunky baby feet in tiny flip-flops?!

+ Once the boys were in bed Friday night, Brandon grilled chicken, I made this pasta salad, and we watched "Jackie" OnDemand. It was pretty...meh...but I'm glad I got to say we saw it.

+ We had a really lazy Saturday morning, but enjoyed a sunny afternoon {that turned cloudy as we were there...} on the patio at a local Mexican restaurant. Sangria swirled margaritas, fish tacos and fajitas...what better Saturday afternoon?!

+ I had a massage on Saturday afternoon, and we had a really lazy evening of leftovers, Planet Earth II and some wine, followed by hopping in bed by 10 p.m., reading and asleep by 10:30 p.m. #adulting

+ But of course, I had to get some snuggles from this sweet baby boy post-bath. Love him to pieces!

+ Sunday morning was church, and Walker's first time in "big church!" We're trying to keep him in the service with us at least through the worship portion to get him used to being in there; he goes to Sunday School following. He did pretty well, but of course asked about 500 questions about every door, speaker, instrument and was quite curious about the words to the songs projected on the screens. ;)

+ We came home and had leftovers, the boys took naps, I worked on Walker's second- and third-year photo books, got up-to-date with Walker's baby book, and folded some laundry. Again with the #adulting.

+ I couldn't pass up a quick picture with my precious guys. As I said on Instagram, they're worth every gray hair on my head, every sleepless night, the bags under my eyes...but yet are one of the sources of my joy. I'm so thankful for the privilege of being their mommy!

I hope you all have wonderful weeks! We're enjoying a low-key, laid-back, Spring Break week with no official plans...and I'm excited!

Linking up with Biana

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your BIL's best friend. I can only imagine how devastating this is to the family and friends around him. It truly is a reminder to enjoy the little things around you every single day (even the days where you want to pull your hair out), like swinging, eating grass, or a cold marg :) So glad you had a special weekend with your family!

  2. Chubby baby limbs are just about the cutest things ever. I had such high hopes for Jackie, but you are not the first person to tell me how "Meh" it was!! Bummer. Is Planet Earth on Netflix? I keep seeing stuff about it and Nathan loves that kind of thing. We will have to check it out!

  3. What a fun weekend!! Love those baby toes in flip flops. Proud of walker for sitting in church for a bit! Glad y'all had a nice weekend after the news y'all received earlier in the week. Still so sad about it all!!!

  4. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Especially under such circumstances, saying a prayer for his sweet family. I hope you had an amazing massage, JEALOUS! We rocked leftovers and early bedtimes this weekend, too ;-) #adultingsohard

  5. I'm so sorry for the loss - sending prayers to his family and friends.
I love that photo post bath snuggles so cute and so happy you guys had a great weekend at home! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  6. What a tragic loss - I'm so sorry to hear of a life lost too soon. Sending prayers to all.

  7. So sorry to hear such sad news! No plans at all this week will be the best - I hope you guys are enjoying spring break already!

  8. Ahh the chunky feet in flip-flops! So precious!

  9. So sorry to hear that sad news - far too soon for sure. Saying a prayer for their family. Looks like you had a great weekend with the boys and love the chubby little feet in flip flops. So cute!

  10. So sorry to hear about your family friend - that is absolutely heartbreaking! I didn't even know there were fires going on in TX. Other than that, looks like y'all had a wonderful weekend which was much deserved after your past few months!

  11. Oh my heavens ya'll are so dang cute - and those baby piggies in flipflops!!! So sorry to hear about Sloan! I will definitely be keeping that family close in my heart in prayers. Hope you're having a great week thus far! Tuesday make me think of ya'll since Fixer Upper comes on! haha

  12. I read about Sloan the other day and it is so sad :( Sounds like you all had such a great weekend celebrating life and family together!
