Weekending: Last One for February

How did the weekend go by so quickly?! I swear we need a day in between Saturday and Sunday. Can we start a petition to make that happen?! ;)

We're still living with my in-law's, so prayers for all of us in that situation. I know it's not easy for them to have us here for two weeks, and it's definitely not easy on us, either. And I felt so bad for Brandon having traveled all of last week and slept in a different hotel bed every night to come home to sleeping in another unfamiliar bed not in his home. Sigh. We'll hopefully be in our house this time next week, so fingers crossed for us on that.

But anyway, here's what we were up to over the weekend...

{And clearly it was boring if my only picture is of a giant margarita...}

-FRIDAY:

+ Brandon came home from his week-long business trip and I don't think I've ever been more excited to see him. We had a rough last week full of house crap, unexpected bills, sick kiddos and probably about four hours of sleep for me a night.

+ We treated my in-law's to dinner at Chuy's as a "thank you for having us for a week." A margarita...or two...was just what the doctor ordered!

-SATURDAY:

+ I got a much-needed hair cut, eyebrow wax and time away alone and it was so, so nice. Then, I ran by the house to check on things and pick some stuff up, then came back to our "home away from home" so Brandon, the boys and I could go to Trader Joe's and grab lunch -- Mexican, what else?!

+ We had a lazy afternoon, then Brandon grilled chicken and grilled corn on the cob for all of us for dinner, and I made yummy sides: roasted Brussels sprouts, mashed cauliflower and green beans.

+ We got the boys down for bed and we all watched "My All-American," which was really cute but also super sad!

-SUNDAY:

+ I've come down with what Knox had {and what seems to be making its way through our church nursery, ugh} so we laid low at my in-law's on Sunday: leftovers for lunch, cuddled watching "Finding Dory" with Walker while Knox took his morning nap, and of course, watching The Oscars' red carpet. I really couldn't care less about the show itself, but the fashion is definitely my cup of tea!

Friday: Last One for February

Well, it's Friday, and Brandon is coming home today from his business trip! #allthepraisehands

-ONE-

Fingers crossed, our contractor should be able to start work on the house middle of next week, so that's a good sign. As much as I wish I could just tell him to rip out my kitchen while he's in there and give me my dream white one, that's just not in the budget. ;)
Plus, we know we're moving in about two-ish years, so we are just making the house A) fixed, B) livable just like it was and C) sellable.

But you can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be getting my dream white kitchen in our next house, just like this one:

-TWO-
So, Walmart for the win! I have always loved the Anthropologie ceramic egg and berry crates, but I just couldn't justify the $12 price tag for something that held six eggs. So, when I found this egg crate at Walmart {that looked just like the Anthro version, natch} I had to scoop it up for just $3.98! And bonus, it holds 12 eggs!

-THREE-

Why is finding a swimsuit so ridiculously difficult?! I absolutely love the ruffle trend going on right now, but my girls are just too big for a ruffle around my chest; I seriously look ridiculous. And as much as I wish I could wear the cute triangle tops, I just need a little more support. So, I've been on a major hunt for an appropriate, cute bathing suit for this summer that will also work for chasing after two active boys. Here are some I'm loving lately:

J.Crew:

Target:

-FOUR-

Do these succulent planters not look like they're from Magnolia?! I saw them on Amazon, of all places, and put them on my birthday wishlist. So cute!

-FIVE-

I saw this quote on Pinterest and couldn't love it more, especially as we're in a little bit of "limbo" with our house situation, and it's hard to not feel a little guilty for uprooting our boys, but still trying to maintain their normalcy and schedules and daily life. So, it just reminded me to enjoy this season instead of just wishing these next weeks away until our house is finished.

Have great weekends, y'all!

Thoughts for Thursday: My Favorite Lotions

Happy Thursday! I thought I'd share my favorite hand, body and face lotions/moisturizers with y'all today.

Thankfully, winter seems to be moving its way out of North Texas and the need for super deep moisturizing isn't as dire as it is when it's super cold out, but with Texas' back-and-forth, bi-polar weather...well, you just never know what you're going to need in your arsenal of beauty products.

Here are my favorites:

For Face:

  • Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture {Combination Skin}: The only daytime moisturizer that works on my combination skin. Bonus points that it's cheap and I can typically purchase it on Amazon without getting out of my house!
  • Nuxe Crème Prodigieus: I've blogged about this one before, but the smell alone is totally worth the purchase. But of course, it works wonders to deeply moisturize my dry winter skin overnight.
  • Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate: I first got this as a sample from Sephora, but quickly purchased the full bottle. Yes, it's expensive, but man, I wake up and I feel like my skin is glowing and healthy looking.

For Body:

For Hands:
  • O'Keefe's Working Hands: I'm sure this was originally marketed toward men, but I love this stuff! It's technically Brandon's in our house, but I use it when my hands are dry, cracked and gross-feeling after washing my hands 3,000 times a day. Because you know, kids. ;)
  • Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream: I got this as a sample from Influenster a couple of years ago and it takes such a little dab that I still have the bottle! I keep it in the side pocket of my diaper bag and have it on hand at all times. It really works!
  • Kiehl's Ultimate Strength Hand Salve: Also a somewhat pricey option, this hand salve works wonders on dry, cracked hands. Mine were so dry they were bleeding earlier this winter, and after a few applications of this at nighttime, my hands were good as new.

Which are your favorites? I'd love to hear!

What's Hap-pinning Wednesday: Second Baby Favorites (6-9 Months)

It's Wednesday, and you know what that means: time to link up with Jessi and Jenn for "What's Hap-pining Wednesday!"

Knox is nine {!!!} months old today, so I thought I'd share what have been some of our favorite baby items for him these past three months. I shared my 0-3 month favorites here and my 3-6 months favorites here, so be sure to check those out, too!

So here's what we have loved the last three months, albeit a bit random, but loved nonetheless:

one || two || three

four || five || six

-ONE-
Santa brought this book for Knox, and he loves it so much! It's bright and colorful, and in fact, he crawled for the first time toward this book! It's totally age-appropriate.

-TWO-
The boys' pediatrician recommended we put one packet of these in Walker's morning cup of milk and a half packet in Knox's morning bottle. Of course, please check with your pediatrician before giving to your baby, but Brandon and I take a daily probiotic and feel like it works well for us, so must for the boys, too!

-THREE-
We had this toy with Walker and he loved it so much that we kept it on hand. And Knox loves it just as much as his brother did -- and still does. ;) Walker will steal this from Knox when he isn't looking and race around the house with it.

-FOUR-
Another Santa gift, Knox is the perfect age to sit {buckled in} and enjoy this wagon. The seats are the perfect size for him -- with room to grow -- and they're comfortable and safe. We have really enjoyed getting out and walking in this wagon!

-FIVE-
Probably the best $6 I've spent on Amazon in a while, Knox loves this high chair toy! It's great to occupy him after he's eaten his evening pureés and while I'm getting dinner ready. Unlike many of his other toys that he throws off his highchair, this toy suctions to the highchair and it takes a lot for him to get it off and on the floor.

-SIX-
Another thing that was Walker's that we're now using for Knox: the Pottery Barn Kids mobile! Walker could not have cared less about the mobile, but Knox is obsessed. If he's ever fussy, we'll sit him in his crib for a few minutes and will hear/see him laughing hysterically and grabbing for the little sheep.

-SEVEN-
These are the ONLY socks that stay on my boys' feet. Trust me when I say we've tried every sock brand in the book...but when Liz told me about these when Walker was a baby, we gave away every other brand of socks we had and practically bought stock in these. They're the best!

Do any of y'all love these baby items, too? What are your favorites?

Friday!

Happy Friday! I'm so glad the weekend is here.

-ONE-
All of the President's Day sales have me so pumped about spring! I'm seriously having to hide my wallet so I don't buy ALLTHETHINGS.

Buuuuut, since I've been wanting this dress for practically forever, I finally scooped it up while J.Crew Factory was having a 50% off everything sale earlier this week! I'm planning to wear it for Easter, so I'm praying for some good weather.

And okay, okay...I put these in my cart, too. I can't resist these comfy shorts for summer! And who can say "no" to an elastic waistband? Not me! ;)

-TWO-
Seriously, y'all, can we talk about "This is Us?" It makes me bawl every single time. I thought that "Parenthood" was the best, but now "This is Us" has totally taken its place. Who else is watching?

-THREE-
After 6.5 years of marriage, we finally broke down and purchased a new duvet cover {and shams!} on Sunday. It was high time: ours -- that I loved dearly -- had bleach stains {still not sure how that happened...} and just was getting gross after two little boys.

So, we bit the bullet and ordered a new one from Pottery Barn, thanks to, what else, President's Day sales! We got it on the bed last night and I'm in love.

And also? Can Pottery Barn please come make my bed every day?

And PPS: How I would love to register again for small appliances, every day dishes, kitchen gadgets, etc. for my anniversary. We're getting to the point where our pots and pans, some gadgets, etc. are needing to be replaced and holy moly, y'all, it can get pricey! Tell me I'm not alone?!

-FOUR-

I was looking back at some of the recent pictures I've taken of the boys on various occasions, and I couldn't help but die laughing at some of the outtakes.

It just makes me laugh because so many times, especially on social media, we {and I say "we" as a general term} can portray our lives to be so perfect, our houses so spotless, our cars so clean, our children angels, etc. So here I am to give you just one example of how perfectly imperfect our lives are over here and how, while they can be precious angels most of the time, Walker and Knox are just your typical little 3-year-old and 8-month-old boys who can be little toots. ;)

Exhibit B:

-FIVE-
Thank you for entering my SwaddleDesigns giveaway earlier this week! I'm excited to announce that the winner is: Jenn G.! Jenn, I'll be emailing you shortly! :)

Have a great weekend, y'all!

Thoughts for Thursday: Valentine's Day Wrap-Up

Truth be told, I didn't love Valentine's Day until I had kids. Sure, it was fun to make a nice meal for my husband and savor the delicious chocolates and admire the pretty flowers...but I'd dare say that I enjoy this sweet "Hallmark holiday" all about love even more now that Walker and Knox are here. Any excuse for some added fun, right?

Seeing their excitement about little gifts, the class parties, the Valentines, the cute outfits -- it's all just precious and I just, for lack of a better term, love it!

Here's a little wrap-up of this year's Valentine's Day:

+ Walker and I prepped his school Valentine's on Monday morning, which was a fun little treat with my biggest guy.

+ His preschool teachers got the cutest Valentine-themed coffee mug with a Starbucks gift card tucked inside, and of course, a homemade Valentine. You wouldn't believe it, but I found the mug at the Dollar Tree {it's adorable!}, as well as the cute bags and heart ribbon. So easy and inexpensive, to boot!

+ I got Walker's precious little Valentines for his preschool friends from this shop on Etsy and they turned out so cute! My best friend Lindsey told me about them, and I quickly went online and ordered them; they were perfect for our construction/transportation-loving boy! I filled them each with a pouch of Annie's fruit snacks and an Annie's gluten-free granola bar -- trying to eliminate the amount of candy consumed by three-year-olds! ;)

+ We made special Valentine's for Brandon on Monday morning, too, and on Monday night, I set out the boys' special "Heart Day," as Walker says, gifts from us: plates from Target's Dollar Aisle and "Happy Valentine's Day, Curious George!" for Walker and "I Love You More" for Knox.

+ On Valentine's Day morning, Brandon made Walker little heart-shaped chocolate chip pancakes, and Walker was smitten. He kept saying, "Thank you for my Valentimes pancakes, Daddy!" {These were super easy: make pancakes like normal, then use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the shape while the pancakes are still hot.}

+ Walker had "school" Tuesday, so I made him a special lunch with a note taped to the top of his lunch box

+ We had a mini photo session before taking Walker to school, and let's just say that a lot of bribery happened to get this shot:

...and just for giggles, here's my favorite outtake:

Pretty sure I say, "Gentle hands, please!" about 506 times each day. ;)

+ Walker had his "Valentimes" party at school after lunch, so Knox and I joined for the fun. They had a little scavenger hunt; made white-chocolate dipped pretzels and decorated them with sprinkles; and did a little painting.

+ We had a super low-key evening of this pasta, a salad, garlic bread, homemade cherry cream pie and some wine. #adulting

I hope each of you had a wonderful Valentine's Day!
And of course, this all is nothing without remembering the true reason for love: "We love because He first loved us." -1 John 4:19

What's Hap-pinning Wednesday: SwaddleDesigns Touch of Shimmer Muslin Swaddles Giveaway!

Happy Wednesday! Today I have a fun giveaway for y'all from one of my favorite companies: SwaddleDesigns. I've raved about them again and again, and for good reason: not only are their products great {with amazing quality} and in precious designs, colors and prints, the company was founded by an RN, designer and mom of two. What better person to design baby stuff than a mom, am I right?!

So of course, when they graciously sent me their muslin swaddles in their new Touch of Shimmer collection, I was pumped! Sure, we may not actually swaddle Knox with swaddling blankets anymore, but these muslin blankets have a myriad of uses, which is perfect as babies grow. I use them for Knox to play on in the living room; to shield his eyes from the sun when we're out and about; to cover him up when our bi-polar Texas weather decides to go from hot to downright frigid in one day {and when it's 100* outside here and inside everywhere it's freezing!}; and yes, I've even used it as a burp rag in a pinch. No shame! Anything multi-use is the name of my game.

But if you do still swaddle your sweet baby, these are perfect for that. SwaddleDesigns includes an innovative 123 Swaddle® pictorial instructional label sewn to the edge of their swaddling blankets. Why does that impress me? Because I was totally that mom who never, ever could swaddle the right way. Brandon was always a better swaddler than me, as much as I hate to admit it! So, the little instructional label totally made me look like I know what I was doing. ;) Click here for a helpful how-to-swaddle refresher!

When I pulled these swaddles out of the box, I did a little squeal: aren't these prints precious?! But like I said, not only are they precious, they're good quality: something I feel like can be hard to find these days. They're big -- no joke I love how huge they are: 46 in. x 46 in.-- and are made from high-quality cotton {meaning they get softer and softer with every wash}. Knox loved to play on it in the living room while his brother ran amok -- and I snapped a few pictures of my sweet 8-month-old.

You can order any muslin swaddle blanket straight from SwaddleDesigns' website, but these new Touch of Shimmer collection muslin swaddles in the awesome 4-pack are available at Target for $35.99! Expectant mamas, be sure to add these to your baby registry, and mamas of littles, be sure to pick these up on your next Target run; we all know we can never come out with just what we went in for. ;)

And um, can I please just say that celebrities everywhere are loving SwaddleDesigns?! Check out the list of celebs who have been spotted wrapping their babies in their precious gear.

And here's the best part: the sweet folks at SwaddleDesigns are letting me give away a Touch of Shimmer muslin swaddle 4-pack to one lucky reader {open to U.S. and Canada residents only}. In order to win, use the Rafflecopter tool below. I'll announce the winner on Friday. Good luck!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I don't have a special post today, but I just wanted to pop in and say "Happy Valentine's Day!" Today is Knox's very first Valentine's Day, and he and I get to spend it together while Walker is at preschool. Walker has a little Valentine's Day party this afternoon that Knox and I will go to, and I'm planning a yummy meal and dessert at home tonight for Brandon and me once the boys go to bed. {Walker gets to have a sandwich shaped like a heart and poor Knox...his pureés will just have to do this year. ;)}

I hope you have a wonderful day spent with the ones you love. And just for old time's sake, here's a look at our past Valentine's Days:

2016:
*We made heart-shaped pizzas, got lots of cuddles and kisses from Walker, and he made this special little "I Love You [This Much]" picture at his once-weekly Mother's Day Out program.

2015:
*I knew at this point that I'd be staying at home in the fall, but was still working full-time at this point. Brandon was actually traveling for business on Valentine's Day this year, so my little Walker, who had just turned one a few weeks prior, and I celebrated together. :)

2014:
*Walker was a mere three weeks old celebrating his first Valentine's Day! My grandparents drove up from my hometown to watch him so Brandon and I could go out to eat dinner together. And funny, Knox has on this very same bib today. :)

2013:
*I was working for American Airlines' PR agency and it was on Valentine's Day 2013 that American announced its merger with US Airways. So, I was hunkered down in my boss's office at American's headquarters beginning at 4 a.m. that day. Brandon showed up to HDQ that day to bring me a cup of coffee and some roses.

Happy Heart Day!!!

Waco Weekending

We had a great weekend this weekend, and it definitely didn't hurt that our temperatures were in the 80's on Friday and Saturday and in the 70's on Sunday! If this is February, I'll totally take it.

Here's what we were up to the last couple of days:

FRIDAY:

+ We met some friends at a local park in the morning, then had an extremely low-key afternoon around the house.

+ I popped open one of my favorite rosés and we enjoyed a glass of that, along with some leftovers, for dinner.

+ Once the boys were in bed, we watched "Sully" {which was so good but gave me major anxiety!}.

SATURDAY:

+ We were up and at 'em so we could hit the road for Waco! We only live a mere 110 miles from there, so it's an easy drive with the boys. Brandon and I met at Baylor University, and so it's always fun to go back to our old stomping grounds; it's such a special place to us.

+ Our first stop was, of course, Magnolia Market at the Silos! Being a Saturday, it was absolutely nuts {I actually walked in and turned around and walked right back out of the actual store}. So, we just let Walker run around on the lawn, gave Knox his bottle in one of the porch swings and enjoyed seeing it all.

+ Then, we went to see the bears in Baylor's Bear Habitat {yes, they have actual black bears on campus in a gorgeous enclosure}, but unfortunately it was closed for construction. We told Walker they were sleeping. ;) We then walked right across the street to the Baylor Bookstore and picked up some more Baylor gear.

+ Then, we met my brother, Parker, and his girlfriend, Emma, at Vitek's for the famous Gut Pak -- a delicious bowl of Fritos, shredded cheddar cheese, sausage, brisket, beans, pickles, onions, jalapeños and BBQ sauce with a slice of white bread. Sounds gross, but it. is. delicious!

My other brother, Royden, has graduated from Baylor, but his girlfriend, Kaitlyn, stopped by Vitek's to say hello to us as we were leaving town.

+ We shopped for a few more things at Barefoot before stopping by Common Grounds for a cup of coffee for the road.

Our boys did fabulously in the car {we were so shocked and pleased!} and we're definitely going to make it a point to get down to Waco more often. Knox slept for maybe 45 minutes total in the car {he usually takes two two-hour naps a day} and he was just still so sweet, smiley and laughing at Walker. It was such a fun day!

+ We came home and unpacked, got the boys down for a little nap and I made this for dinner before we called it an early night.

SUNDAY:

+ CLEAN ALL THE THINGS day. No joke, I washed duvet covers, throw blankets and did about five loads of laundry just getting everything "spring cleaned" since the weather has felt so spring-ish lately.

+ We made a Target and Home Depot run, then Walker decided to jump outside on his trampoline while donning his astronaut costume. As one does. ;)

+ I made some pureés for Knox {read my post on that here}, relaxed with a cup of coffee in the afternoon, and made this for dinner. Perfect Sunday in my book!

I hope y'all had wonderful weekends! :)

Friday!

Happy Friday, friends! Is anyone doing anything fun this weekend for an early Valentine's Day? We're planning some fun stuff with the boys, and I'm so excited for a warm February weekend to celebrate with my favorite guys.

Linking up with April, Amanda, Andrea, Amy and Katie today.

-ONE-
Walker's school was randomly "sort-of cancelled" yesterday due to the auto body shop next door having a massive gasoline spill, causing the fumes to completely overtake his little school. You could choose to let your child stay, but I got a headache after about five minutes of standing there talking to the director, so there was no way I was letting my child sit there five hours in that. Yuck!

So, we had a really random, unplanned Thursday at home, complete with a trip to Trader Joe's! I usually score a few more fun things, but since I had the boys with me, I had to be quick. Here are some of my favorite things from good ol' TJ's:

+ Tulips {or any flower from there, really!}
+ Veggie Sticks
+ Strawberry Yogurt O's cereal
+ Cookie Butter Sandwich Cookies
+ Farmhouse English Cheddar with Italian Truffles {their cheese selection is awesome}
+ Cookie Butter Sandwich Cookies {runner up: plain ol' Cookie Butter}
+ Wine, duh! But my favorite is the Well Read red wine, as it's free of sulfites and tastes delicious. And of course, the Trader Joe's brand Sauvignon Blanc
+ Not pictured, but also things I love from Trader Joe's: riced cauliflower, pre-washed/diced veggies, canned goods, dark chocolate covered nuts, organic fruit crusher pouches, coconut and almond milk, all of their produce {SO CHEAP!} and their olive oil selection.

And of course I had to get those tulips in some water as soon as we got home!

-TWO-
I've mentioned this here before, but are any of y'all watching "Victoria?" It's on our local PBS station {you can also watch online} and I'm completely obsessed. Between this and "The Crown," my love for British History is completely at an all-time high right now. Ha!

-THREE-
Because our Texas weather has been bouncing around from cold to warm to hot to freezing -- all within a week -- everyone in my house is suffering from allergies right now. Ugh! I read online that diffusing a mixture of lavender, lemon and peppermint oils help remedy allergies, so you better believed I hopped on Amazon and Prime'd the heck out of those three oils to pop in our diffuser. I haven't been on the "oil train" before, but after I diffused Thieves oil in the house while Knox had his poor bout with gastroenteritis last week, I swear that's the only way the rest of us didn't catch it. So, consider me sold...ish. ;)

-FOUR-
Has anyone seen the movie "Jackie" with Natalie Portman? I'm just dying to see it, but of course we don't really go out to the movies anymore {#momlife} and instead wait for it to come out on Amazon Fire TV or Netflix. But, I'd love to know if it's maybe worth grabbing a babysitter for in the near future...? Let me know!

And speaking of Netflix, y'all, I'm just dying for "House of Cards" to come back in May! Bring on some Frank Underwood!

-FIVE-
So, as y'all know, I love celebrating Valentine's Day with Brandon and the boys, trying my best at making heart-shaped crafts with Walker and decorating the heck out of my house for this fun holiday...but sometimes you just gotta pop some bubbly and have some laughs with your best girlfriends, am I right?! If you're wondering what I'm talking about, you have to check out this "Galentine's Day" guide from ProFlowers. They share fun tips on décor and snacks, plus a cute chart to help you pick out the perfect chick flick for Valentine's Day.

Have a great weekend, y'all!
