Thoughts for Thursday: Getting to Know You

Hi, y'all, and Happy Thursday! With the start of a new year, and because I know I have some new readers who have stopped by this blog lately, I thought I'd do a "getting to know you" post to start off 2017. For some of you, this may be redundant, but some of you may learn a little something about me today. Either way, thank you for stopping by and supporting me in this little space. And I'd love to hear from you {if you're new or not} so tell me: if you are new to this blog, could you comment and introduce yourself to me? I'd love to get to know you! And if you are a faithful reader, tell me: what was your favorite Christmas gift you received this year? I have a few gift cards burning a hole in my wallet and I need some ideas!

So, a bit about me:

+ My name is Brittany and I've been married to my husband, Brandon, for a little more than six years. We met at Baylor University in a communications class I was taking for my minor and him for his major, and the rest, as they say, is history. We always joke that we loved Waco before Waco was cool! ;)

+ I got my degree in journalism/public relations with a minor in corporate communication. After college, I worked for two different public relations agencies, ultimately then working for a local school district as a member of their communications team. In August 2015, I began my new role as a stay-at-home mom. {But trust: I'm definitely not ever going to compare being a stay-at-home mom to a working mom. I've done both and they're equally as hard. Let's just celebrate being good moms, shall we?!} And on the whole "journalism major" note, I cannot handle when people don't know the difference between the following: "peek" and "peak"; "your" and "you're"; "there," "they're" and "their"; and "everyday" and "every day." I've tried to get over it and I just can't. I'm sorry.

+ We have two precious boys, Walker (who will be three years old later this month) and Knox (who is a little over seven months old). I'm basically always tired and laugh at my 23-year-old, childless self who would say she was tired. Ha! There is no tired like mom tired. #justsayin But in all seriousness, being a mom is my greatest accomplishment in life and I'm beyond thankful for these two amazing boys who call me "Mommy."

+ We live in a suburb of Dallas and I think anything below 40* is cold and I bundle myself and my kids up until we look like that kid from "A Christmas Story" yelling, "BUT I CAN'T PUT MY ARMS DOWN!" Subsequently, even though I've lived in Texas my entire life, I still get surprised at just how hot it gets here in the summer. Anything over 95* is just not okay. And don't get me started on any temperature -- or heat index -- over 100*.

+ I'm an over-sharer. If you follow me on social media, you'll agree with this statement. I just can't quit it.

+ I'm not crafty or artsy in the least. I've tried and just...no. My great-grandmother was an avid artist and I'm sad that artistic gene skipped me. That said, I love Etsy -- you creative geniuses are amazing.

+ Things I love {aside from my precious family}: shopping, brunching {yes, it's a verb}, sleeping later than 7 a.m., spending time with my family and friends, Baylor football, pedicures, massages, facials, photography, Sauvignon Blanc, a good cup of coffee, binge-watching shows on Netflix, being on the lake, traveling, anything and everything British, naps, Broadway musicals, candles, shiplap, Waco, being from the South, and pictures -- give me all the pictures!

+ I'm not a fan of: trying on bathing suits, the color yellow, mean girls, Sci-Fi anything, grammatical errors -- including my own!, cashews, being late {or people who are}, the song "Auld Lang Syne," people who don't Google something before asking in a public forum, humble bragging, ironing, people who can't apologize, copycats, and visors.

+ If I still had an iPod, you'd find any and every genre of music on there. I'm not ashamed to admit that I love me some rap music, but I also love Christian music, and I love jazz music, too. Oh, and I'm totally one of those people who listens to Christmas music beginning Nov. 1. No shame in my game.

+ I'm a Christian and I love Jesus. I'm most definitely not perfect and I certainly don't pretend to be, but my main goal is to live my life daily pursuing Jesus and becoming more and more like Him.

...so that's a bit about me! Thanks for popping by today!

  2. Love this! I feel like I had an idea on most of this but still fun to hear random facts! I have always hated auld lang syne, but I listened to the version by marzipan and mistletoe and LOVE it! Probably because it doesn't really sound like the original song ;-) And no truer words spoken than there being no tired like mom tired. Yesterday in a group a young guy in school told me he was having a hard time juggling time spent at the gym with time spent with his girlfriend. I can only imagine what my blank stare must have looked like!!!
