Happy Friday!

Have y'all gotten back into the swing of things lately? It has taken me this entire week to detox from Christmas -- literally and figuratively -- and to just get back into routine. Walker started his little twice-a-week preschool back this week, Brandon went back to work, and I just tried to pull myself out from under the post-Christmas mess: cleaned, organized, put away, purged and refreshed.

I've been really trying to focus on my big New Year's goal, which has been to really be present and intentional with my children and husband; to just plug the phone up and not be so focused on social media as much as I have been. I think I've done a relatively good job of that so far, and was definitely reminded of the need for that when we were at a play place earlier this week: a woman was talking on her phone the entire time {practically ignoring her child}, and she was talking so much that her phone ran out of she then proceeded to charge it beneath the children's play area and kept talking! I was just shocked and it was a huge wake-up call to me. I might not always be talking on the phone, but scrolling through social media is just as bad. I don't ever want my kids to remember me on my phone; I want them to remember me being present.

So, lots to work on still in that department, but I'm getting there.

I'm coming at y'all today from my brand new MacBook Air! Brandon totally surprised me on Wednesday with it and y'all, I'm totally not going to lie: I cried! My old MacBook was a little more than nine years old; my grandfather bought it for me when I was a senior in college as my graduation present. "Old Faithful" was on her last leg and just made doing anything on the computer a complete and utter chore. So, when I walked back in our bedroom after an evening of putting kids to bed, I saw the box sitting on top of "Old Faithful" and I ran out into the living room and said, "ARE YOU SERIOUS?!" I'm so excited about it and so thankful for it!

I'm totally not going to lie: one of my favorite places is Dollar Tree! I'm all about finding a deal; ain't no shame! Walker's birthday is coming up and I found the cutest party accessories there for his upcoming birthday party. The Dollar Tree is also my go-to place for birthday cards {$.50, y'all!}; gift bags; wrapping paper; and cheap plastic cutlery, accessories and plasticware for kids' birthday parties! It's crazy to me that, before I started shopping there for this stuff, that I paid upwards of $3 at Target for plastic forks and spoons that get thrown away post-party. Never again!

On another shopping-related note, I had a crazy day with Walker on Wednesday. I'm not going to lie: I cried because I was just at my wits end with him in regards to his behavior -- tantrums, screaming, kicking his door when he was in time-out...

This age is so fun sometimes, yet so difficult sometimes. I totally see why they call it "Terrible Twos!"

So instead of doing what I wanted to do during nap time {open a bottle of wine} I shopped Nordstrom's sale. Whoops! I found the cutest things: this dress for our beach vacation this summer, this top, and these earrings. And yes, clearly I have an obsession with the color black!

Can y'all believe Valentine's Day is already next month?! I like to give the boys a small little something for each holiday, and I found the cutest little plates in Target's Dollar Aisle the other day. I'm going to pair it with a new Valentine-themed book and call it a day. {I'll share my favorite Valentine-themed books next week!} But, since Walker is in school, his classmates share Valentines with each other, which I think is so sweet. I want to do something a little fun and different this year, so I was thinking about doing this that I found on Pinterest...and I can get the crayons at the Dollar Tree! ;)

  1. How fun that your hubs surprised you with a new laptop!! Is it the one with the touch bar? I've been swooning over it but since I just got a MacBook Air last year it'll never happen haha. I love that you've been trying to put your phone down more and be intentional with your fam. I've been trying to do the same. It's so hard sometimes but really.. do I need to check insta 5 min after I last checked it? Have a great weekend!!

  2. I'm so jealous of your new laptop! I got mine my freshman year of college. Mine isn't quite nine years old, but it's working it's way there! I love that they last for so long, you definitely get your money's worth when buying a mac!

  3. Yay for your new laptop - Gary actually got me a new one for the holidays as well and I love how light it is compared to my old one LOL! Happy weekend! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  4. How exciting a new laptop :) I love it

  5. The phone/social media deal is such a struggle! Being more present when I'm around family and friends is something I need and want to work on this year too. I seriously already find myself checking email during some of the times Betsy is awake instead of engaging with her and I feel so guilty when I realize what I'm doing! Mel gave me Present Over Perfect for Christmas, and I'm so looking forward to reading it.

  6. Happy Friday! I totally bought that maxi dress last week and it just got here yesterday! Now I just need weather above -9 degrees! Haha! Love your new MacBook - so sweet of Brandon! Have a good weekend!

  7. So glad you focus on being present with your kids. I'm not even a mom and when I see parents ignoring their kids for their phones I want to go up to them and say "excuse me, but in 10 years you're going to be begging for their attention when they're hanging with friends, off to college, etc. You better cherish these moments while you have them." How sweet of Brandon to surprise you with a new laptop!! How exciting! I have the iMac desktop and so much to learn on it still, teach me your Mac ways! I love the Dollar Tree too :)

  8. Gosh, it's taken a while to get out of the break fog and we still haven't caught up on sleep! lol That's such a great goal to be present! I notice that a lot during random times and sometimes I'm like how can they not notice their kid or whatever but then I also have to remind myself that they're with them 24/7 and I don't have any lol That was SO sweet of Brandon to get you a new Macbook!!! How exciting! I really need to remember the Dollar Tree for stuff like that!! I'm so bad with remembering. Hope y'all have a great weekend!!!

  9. That black maxi is perfection! I don't know about you, but after Christmas I am so ready for beach season!! I cannot believe Valentine's day is right around the corner. Growing up every year my mom gave my sisters and I a little treat and she still does... I love those memories and can't wait to continue them with my kids!
