Friday: Last One for September

Happy Friday!

-ONE-
Brandon is coming home today after being gone since Sunday. Cue the Hallelujah Chorus because this mama is tiiiiiiii-red.

-TWO-
I was shopping for the boys on Wednesday night, trying to find them each a light jacket with a hood {because let's face it, we don't need giant winter coats that often in Texas}. And while I found them {here and here}, I also had to pick up a few things for myself, right?! Special thanks to Old Navy's 40 percent off the entire store sale for making me poorer. ;)

-THREE-
Now that it {finally} feels like fall outside, I'm totally gung-ho about anything and everything autumn-related. Give me all the pumpkin patches, boots, long-sleeved shirts, pumpkin spice candles and delicious treats!

-FOUR-
With Brandon gone this week, I wasn't following the Cambridge's Canadian tour as closely as I would have liked, but I did sneak a glimpse at a few photos on Twitter. And y'all, OH MY GOSH, did you see the precious See by Chloe cream dress she wore to the Garden Party at British Columbia's Government House?! I'm in love!!!

{And I love how sweet and Southern she dresses Prince George and Princess Charlotte in all of that smocking, Peter Pan collars, knee-high socks, and the like.}

-FIVE-
Yesterday, Walker was completely on a super sweet kick and it just made my mama heart melt.

First, Knox was crying in his swing and I was getting ready to walk over and pop his paci back in. Before I could get to him, Walker rushed over and gently put his paci back in his mouth, and then started saying in a soft, sweet voice, "Shhhhh, shhhhhh, Baby Knox. It's okay. Shhhhh, shhhh." Y'all, I totally started crying happy tears at my sweet big boy.

Then, we were playing outside enjoying the beautiful weather. Walker saw our sweet mailman -- who has been our mailman since before he was born -- coming down the street. Now, Walker listens for him every. single. day, and most days, goes outside with me and gives him a high-five. Anyway, yesterday Walker said, "Mommy! Can we give him a cookie?" I agreed and we quickly ran inside to get him one. Walker delivered it to him and our sweet mailman was SO excited! (And Walker was equally as excited to sit and "drive" in his truck.) I love Walker's sweet heart and hope he always shows this much empathy to and for others!

Thoughts for Thursday: Confessions

Happy Thursday, lovelies! I haven't done a good ol' confession post lately, so I thought I'd link up with Annie and Natalie today to get a few things off my chest.

+ I totally watched "The Family Stone" last night. I get so tickled every time I watch the part where Sarah Jessica Parker's character is telling the L-O-N-G story about how she met Dermot Mulroney's character. "Do you remember? How you were lost?" Ha!

+ And speaking of last night, we met some friends at Chick-fil-A for supper because mama just wasn't cooking and cleaning the kitchen. Some nights you are just surviving and that was last night for us!

+ I need a pedicure something fierce. I literally have zero nail polish on my left pinky toe and it's embarrassing. It's just finding time to do it is the problem!

+ Total Journalism major nerd coming out here, but I get so annoyed when people capitalize seasons. They're not proper nouns, so they don't need to be capitalized. {Click here for some info on that.} And woooosah!

+ I wanted to completely rage on Macy's the other day. I ordered Brandon a big-ticket item for Christmas online on Monday. I paid for said order, got my Macy's Money in my email and also received a separate order confirmation in my email. Two days later, I received a phone call from a person with an accent I couldn't understand, but said it was Macy's Consumer Protection. Of course I immediately thought someone stole my credit card number or something crazy, but I called the number back and they told me that this is "standard procedure" for Macy's when someone orders something online; they have to call you and authorize the order and then release it before it can ship. What the what?! After a 20-minute phone call with a screaming baby on my shoulder and a rambunctious toddler running around, let me tell you that I'll never be shopping at Macy's again. What a crazy policy! {But after doing some research on it, I read that Macy's does this because they want to bring traffic into their big-box stores as opposed to online. Not sure the validity of that, but it doesn't make me want to shop in store vs. online...it just makes me not want to shop with them at all!}

+ Knox doesn't sleep in his car seat. Like, at all. It's so frustrating to have a screaming baby when I'm on the go -- because, let's face it, I can't stay at home all the time. So, out of an act of desperation, I ordered this portable sound machine and it seems to be helping somewhat!

+ I may or may not be about 90% finished with Christmas shopping for this year. #allthepraisehandemojis

+ Speaking of Christmas, who has a Roomba? I really think I "need" one!

So do any of y'all have any confessions today?!

What's Up Wednesday: September 2016

Happy Wednesday! Let's recap the month of September, shall we?

As is custom for the last Wednesday of each month, I'm linking up with Mel, Sheaffer and Shay for "What's Up Wednesday" to answer the following questions:

{1} What We're Eating This Week:
I just picked up my groceries from Walmart yesterday {best thing ever for a mom with two young kids -- click here for $10 off your first online order!}...and so I've planned out for us to have:

+ Steaks on the grill, along with these yummy ranch potatoes and broccoli

+ Chicken and Zucchini Casserole and Kale salad

+ Autumn Chopped Salad

+ Grilled chicken, sweet potatoes and these delicious oven-roasted Brussels sprouts

...and lots of yummy leftovers! :)

{2} What I'm Reminiscing About:
I was getting our Web Albums in order after I upgraded to the iPhone 7 recently, and I was looking back through pictures of Walker from this time last year. It absolutely blows my mind just how much bigger he has gotten over the course of one year! Where did my baby go!?

{3} What I'm Loving
After seeing it on Kristin Cavallari's Snapchat the other day, I ordered Pure Magnesium Oil, which apparently -- if you put it on the soles of your feet and the backs of your knees at night, it helps you sleep better. And let me tell you this, I'm not an "oily" person, but if anything promises better sleep, I'm willing to try it out! So either it totally works or I was just exhausted, but I'm loving this stuff

{4} What We've Been Up To
Our fall schedule is in full swing and now that it finally feels like fall outside, I'm totally on board with this! Although you're about to get a glimpse into the weekly life of a boring stay-at-home mom below. {You've been warned. ;) Ha!}

Monday, we met my friend Stacy at the Galleria to let the kids play while it was icky rainy out {but yay for a cold front!}! We came home and hunkered down for the rest of the day, napping, watching movies and staying inside on a yucky day.

Tuesday, Walker had Mother's Day Out and I spent the day paying bills, blogging, cleaning, buying gifts online for showers we've been invited to and just trying to catch up on life in between Knox's naps. It was cool enough outside for Walker to wear a long-sleeved shirt to "school," and I just loved that, so I had to snap a quick picture before we walked out the door.

Today we have BSF and are planning to do lots of errand-running after the boys' naps; tomorrow Walker is back at MDO again and I plan to do a good deep-clean of the house; and Friday morning we're meeting a friend at the park.

I'm telling you, riveting stuff. ;)

{5} What I'm Dreading
The next two Presidential Debates. If Monday night's debate was any indication, I'll be skipping the next two and instead watching Bravo to pretend like our country isn't about to be run by the lesser of two evils.

{6} What I'm Working On
Other than trying to get into a more consistent blogging routine and my weekly BSF "homework," I'm really trying to tackle getting rid of the clutter in this house...especially now that Walker is at "school" twice a week and I have a little more time on my hands while Knox is sleeping. I'm trying to get rid of anything excess, and I'm using this little chart as my guide.

{7} What I'm Excited About
Oh, I'm so excited about this time of the year! It isn't "chilly" in Texas by any means, but it's no longer the face of the sun outside, so I'm loving it! I'm excited about actually being able to sit outside on the patio and have a cup of coffee in the mornings; letting Walker run around outside without having to worry about constantly slathering sunscreen on him and his sweat making said sunscreen get in his eyes; and of course, the usual October things: pumpkins, yummy baked goods, Halloween, cooler weather, and...our SIX year anniversary!

{8} What I'm Watching/Reading
Yay for fall TV being back! We're currently enjoying "This is Us," "Dancing with the Stars," "Designated Survivor," "Modern Family," and season 2 of "Narcos" on Netflix. Oh, and of course I'm still binge-ing "Blue Bloods" and any of the Real Housewives series during the boys' naptime or when Brandon travels. :)

As for reading, I'm really only delving into the Book of John as part of my BSF study. I can really only read one thing at a time, and that totally counts!

{9} What I'm Listening To
Like every month: Walker's favorite CD's...this one and this one. Y'all, before I can even back out of the driveway each day I hear, "Mommy! Make my music really, really loud!" *Insert eye-roll emoji here.*

{10} What I'm Wearing
All the fall things! I'm so excited that I'm finally back to my pre-pregnancy weight and can fit into all of my old clothes again. It's so fun shopping in your own closet!

{11} What I'm Doing This Weekend
We are thinking about going to the pumpkin patch if the weather is still nice out, and I'm excited about joining some mom's from our church for an evening "Mom's Night Out" event that our church's Preschool Director set up. It's going to be fun!

{12} What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month
Of course, all things fall! {#sobasic} and celebrating our six-year wedding anniversary! Seriously, six years...?! How did six years go by this quickly?!

Weekending

Happy Monday! We had a full, yet fun weekend and I'm pretty sure I need just one more day until I'm ready to hit the ground running this week. ;)

Here's what we were up to:

-FRIDAY-
My parents came up {and my aunt came over} to see us and celebrate my Mom's birthday with us. It was so, so good to see my family and spend time with them. And Walker just loved having his Foxy and Papa here!

I made chicken spaghetti, Greek salad and garlic bread, and had Brandon pick up a Berry Chantilly Cake from Whole Foods on his way home from work. If you've never tried that cake, it's delicious!

We all ate supper together, enjoyed catching up, got the boys ready for bed, and my parents read Walker a couple of bedtime stories before we all called it a night.

My Dad and Walker

Walker singing "Happy Birthday" to my Mom

Mom blowing out her candles {and Walker blowing, too} ;)

My Aunt Tina and Knox

Foxy and Papa reading Walker a bedtime story

-SATURDAY-
After my parents came to say their goodbyes and head down to Waco for the Baylor game, we had a really lazy afternoon. I caught a quick nap on the couch while the boys took a nap, and then we met my sweet friend Liz and her family for an early dinner, and then let the kiddos play in the little splash pad next to the restaurant. {Only in Texas can you still run around in a splash pad in late September! Ha!}

If you've been reading this blog for a while, you know that Liz and I used to work together. Her youngest daughter, Peyton, and Walker were born two days apart and the same hospital and by the same doctor. If they don't get married then, well, what is life!? ;)

After dinner, we came home and got the boys to bed, then sat out on the patio with a glass of wine and watched a big ol' Texas thunderstorm start to roll in. Once it hit, we quickly made our way indoors and watched the Baylor game on TV. {Sic 'Em, Bears!} Since the game had a rain delay, it didn't end until after 11 p.m., which is way too late for this old lady, so I was dragging Sunday morning!

-SUNDAY-
We woke up to rain pouring down, but we braved it and went to church anyway...and I'm glad we did because it was an awesome sermon! We got a ton of things picked up around the house and watched football on TV all afternoon. I'm thankful for a day of rest, but I would definitely enjoy another one! ;)

Friday!

Happy Friday!

-ONE-
We are finally in some sort of a fall routine over here, and I'm glad that we're getting back into the swing of things. Between Walker's Mother's Day Out twice a week, BSF once a week and play dates with friends, we are busy little bees!

And guess what else happened this week? This little cutie turned four months old. Can't even believe he's this big already, and I'm definitely not rushing the time or milestones in the least. With Walker, I was always looking forward to the next month, the next milestone, the next whatever. With Knox? I'm all, "Nope, not sitting in a stroller like a big boy yet. Nope, not going in the jumperoo yet. Nope, not going to eat solid food yet." I just want him to stay a baby forever! #lastbabyprobs

-TWO-
Did any of y'all watch the season premiere of "This is Us" this week? I absolutely loved it and was bawling about five minutes in. And that plot twist?! Totally wasn't expecting that!

-THREE-
I am all about screen-printed shirts these days, so when I saw this one on Amazon, I couldn't resist.

-FOUR-
Unless you've been living under a rock, you saw that Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt. Like most of the world, I was totally shocked, but also not quite so much when it comes to Hollywood. But the Jennifer Aniston GIFs and memes all over the Internet? Oh, those made my day. Hilarious! #karma

-FIVE-
My new favorite recipe? This one: Oven-Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Bacon. Never, ever would I think I would like brussels sprouts, but I am obsessed! These would make a delicious side dish for Thanksgiving lunch or dinner.

Thoughts for Thursday: Happy Fall + Autumn Chopped Salad Recipe

Happy Thursday, and Happy First Day of Fall! This is pretty much how I feel that today is the very first day of fall, one of my favorite seasons:

Today, I'm linking up with Annie and Natalie for "Thoughts for Thursday," and today I'm re-sharing my favorite fall salad: Autumn Chopped Salad! I originally shared the recipe two years ago here, but I love it so much that I knew it was worth re-posting.

My Nana introduced us to this super easy, delicious salad right after Walker was born, and it has become a staple in our house.

Ingredients
-1 container pre-washed Romaine blend lettuce
-2 green pears, sliced
-1 pkg. bacon, fried crisp and crumbled
-1 cup Craisins
-1 container crumbled goat cheese (can use feta)
-1/2 cup Brianna's Poppy Seed Dressing
-1/2 cup Newman's Own Balsamic Vinaigrette
-Optional: sliced chicken breasts

Directions
1. Mix all together: lettuce, sliced pears, crumbled bacon, Craisins, crumbled goat cheese and sliced chicken breasts {if you use them}.
2. In a small bowl, mix the two salad dressings together and toss with the salad. Enjoy!

What's Hap-pinning Wednesday: My Favorite Kiddo Halloween Outfits

Happy Wednesday! Can you believe that next Saturday is October?! I most certainly cannot and am in total denial that we're only a little over a month away from Halloween right now.

That said, I always try to dress my boys in some festive Halloween PJ's leading up to Halloween and a cute Halloween shirt on October 31st. I'm definitely not into anything scary, so I've rounded up my favorite {non-scary} Halloween outfits for kiddos below. And if you're thinking, "It's September. Seriously with Halloween right now?!" I just have to say that I'm trying so hard to be on the ball with things this year! Being pregnant last year, I was so worn out that I didn't really decorate or go all-out on a lot of things, so I'm making up for it this year. Ha!

As always, Old Navy and Gap always win out for me in the cute holiday PJ's and ensembles! You just can't go wrong with their stuff -- and no, this isn't a sponsored or affiliate-linked post; it's just my honest opinion! :)

Weekending

Happy Monday, friends! As usual, I'm linking up with Biana today to share a bit about our weekend.

-FRIDAY we...

+ Took Walker to Parents Night Out at our church, where he got to take part in a petting zoo and pony rides. Brandon and I did nothing but watch the Baylor game {Sic 'Em, Bears!} and eat dinner at home while Knox slept. It was a nice little at-home date night!

-SATURDAY we...

+ Had a very low-key day! I took Walker out with me for some one-on-one time, which I've found is so important after having another kiddo. We started off with coffee at Starbucks, followed by a car wash and a trip to Target. Love my time with my biggest little guy!

+ Worked on our 300-piece puzzle while the boys went down for their naps. You don't have to tell me how cool we are...we know. ;)

+ Watched lots of college football and couldn't believe some of the upsets!

+ I got my hair cut, which was much-needed since my girl just got back from maternity leave. It was getting longgggggg and to the point where it was doing absolutely nothing, so I'm glad to have a fresh cut!

+ Took in sweet Knox's precious little baby rolls and arm dimples before bath time. I just can't get enough of the cuteness.

-SUNDAY we...

+ Went to church, picked up lunch at Jason's Deli and watched the Cowboys win. Go Cowboys!

+ Did some laundry and cleaning around the house to try to make today a little less...Monday.

+ Alternated between the Emmys and football on TV all evening. {I loved the opening skit, by the way. Hilarious.}

+ Called it an early night because we are old {see above}.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!
