Taking a Little Time

Good morning, sweet friends, and Happy Friday. I hope you've all had a wonderful week and are looking forward to a fabulous weekend!

I'm here today to let y'all know that I'm going to be taking a little break from blogging this summer. My postpartum recovery has been really rough for a lot of reasons -- many I plan to blog about later this summer because I have to get real and be honest -- and a lot of it has been very unexpected because I didn't go through it with Walker. The physical and emotional pain that I've been going through hasn't been easy, and introducing a newborn to the mix just has been really tough.

I'm sure many of you with multiples or more than one child are rolling your eyes right now, but I just wasn't as prepared for this as I thought I was, and quite frankly, I'm very overwhelmed. Some days I can barely remember to brush my teeth (ew), much less open my laptop to compose a blog post. It's just one added thing on my plate, and I've just had to give myself grace on so many things, and this blog is one of them. I've just had to realize the things I can and can't do right now, and sadly, this is one of them that is on my "not right now" list.

So, while I get my feet under me and feel more comfortable in my own skin, I'm taking some time off. In the meantime, you can always follow me on Instagram {@brittanywhitacre} or Snapchat {brittwhit87}; I tend to be a lot more active over there. ;)

Thank you all for your understanding, your respect and for following me along here. I promise to be back, because I love this space, I love connecting with you, and I love the beautiful friendships I've made here.

So, enjoy your summers and I'll see you in a couple of months!

What's Hap-pinning Wednesday: Lamaze Toy Review

Happy Wednesday, y'all! As you know, we just had sweet Knox a little over two weeks ago. So when TOMY reached out to me about reviewing some adorable Lamaze toys, I quickly jumped at the chance. We actually already own some Lamaze toys since I registered for them when I was pregnant with Walker, and we love them around here!

They were sweet enough to send us the Lamaze Octotunes, the Lamaze Gardenbug Foot Finder & Wrist Rattle Set, and the Lamaze Mortimer the Moose

Knox is still a teeny bit little to play with these toys since he's two weeks old, but, having a two-year-old, I know they grow into them and he will love playing with them so soon! Our main focus right now is keeping Knox awake after feedings (since we're big proponents of the wake/eat/play/sleep schedule), so we hung the Mortimer the Moose on his playmat. He adores looking at the bright colors and even tries to reach up and grab its feet.

We had Mortimer with Walker, and I have zero clue where it disappeared to, so I was happy to see TOMY included this in the package. ;) Mortimer has teethable antlers (which are amazing), little knottie activity legs, a squeaker body, and bright colors and textures for baby to explore.

Walker's favorite toy is the Lamaze Octotunes, and he loves that each of the eight tentacles plays a different note when squeezed. (We hear a lot of "music" being played for Knox with this toy…ha!) But what's great about this toy is that its large, friendly eyes invite baby to focus on a single object, which helps support healthy eye development. And, those eight legs encourage pulling, squeezing and hugging, which helps strengthen baby's muscles.

And finally, since Knox's little feet and wrists are currently too small for the Lamaze Gardenbug Foot Finder & Wriest Rattle Set, we put them on our fingers (and Walker does, too!) to shake them for Knox. These sweet little rattles encourage baby to reach and grab, which promotes sensory exploration through sight, touch and sound. I know this will be so sweet and fun to see Knox use these to explore and learn so soon.

All of these sweet Lamaze toys are available at buybuyBABY, so be sure to scoop them up on your next visit there. We love these toys (℅ TOMY)!

Weekending {Halfway into Monday}

Hey, y'all! #lifewithanewborn over here: developing a post at noon on a Monday as opposed to the night before…and only because Brandon has taken Walker to the neighborhood pool.

First, a little life lately update:

Life with a newborn and a toddler is no joke. It's been Groundhog's Day to me since May 22; in a good way, though. It's been two weeks, and we're slowly getting used to this whole oh-my-gosh-we-have-two-kids thing. When I had Walker, my maternity leave was full of napping when he did, watching my DVR'd shows while I nursed him, casual trips to the grocery store and getting lots of things done around my house while he napped. Now? Holy moly. I'm refereeing Walker while I nurse Knox (and saying, "No, we don't color on the wall!" about five times each session); giving in to the whole "You can't watch another 'Mickey Mouse' thing"; and every day is just survival mode, man. As Brandon likes to say, we went from man-on-man to zone. It's true! ;)

We did go ahead and put Knox on a schedule, which has saved so much of our sanity. He's also sleeping in his crib, which has also saved so much of our sanity. Now, after Knox eats at 5 a.m., and I just go ahead and get my shower and get dressed for the day after I get him back down (and before Walker wakes up at 7 a.m.). I learned that I feel so much better, more productive and awake if I go ahead and just do that. (But then I look at the clock and it's 8:30 a.m. and I feel like it should be noon I've already accomplished so much. Ha!)

Having Brandon home since May 22 has been a huge help, and I couldn't have gotten through my battle with mastitis without him. He's been great with Knox, of course, but his real help has been with Walker; they've gone out on little adventures every day to try to keep life as normal as possible for Walker. I've yet to venture out with both boys by myself, but I know that time will come. Right now, I'm content to just hang around the house and enjoy this time while Knox is so tiny. Plus, summer has arrived in Dallas and it's just H-O-T. I don't really want to be taking a baby out in that heat anyway!

Now, onto weekending:

Like I said, my days are kind of a blur, so I have zero clue as to what we did Friday, other than remind each other that it was, in fact, Friday.

Saturday, my in-law's offered to watch the boys while Brandon and I went to get lunch. I jumped at that in a heartbeat, and we snuck away to Taco Diner for a yummy lunch date (and I had my first Mambo Taxi in seriously about a year)! We made a quick pit stop to Ulta so I could get more shampoo/conditioner, and then to Half Price Books to pick up a little book for Walker.

Sunday was really low-key. Brandon made chocolate chip pancakes and eggs for breakfast, and we just lounged around.

Knox dressed up in his Sunday best to mark being two weeks old. ;)

And the boys just enjoyed playing with each other until my brother-in-law came and dropped off dinner that my sister-in-law made for us.

Totally low-key, but we're getting there, slowly but surely. I hope y'all had great weekends, too!
