Weekending: Extra Long Labor Day Edition

Happy Wednesday! I took off yesterday since Brandon was home, which allowed me to do the always-fun eye doctor and dentist appointments. So, aside from those appointments, we had a fun extra long Labor Day Weekend! Let's get to the recap:

Brandon had his last Summer Friday Half Day {Man, I'm going to miss having him home by lunchtime each Friday!}, and we had a low-key start to our weekend. We ate donuts -- and Walker savored every bite of his -- and then Brandon and I caught up on a few episodes of Season 2 of "Narcos" while the boys napped.

That evening, we watched Baylor's first football game of the season. Sic 'Em, Bears! {Sweet Knoxy had zero clue as to what was going on, but we will totally count this as his first BU game!}

We went to our across-the-street neighbors' son's third birthday party. It was a construction theme, which of course our little construction-loving boy was all over! My sweet neighbor has two little boys right around our boys' ages, and I've grown really close to her since Knox was born. I'm so thankful for precious, Christian neighbors!

Saturday night, my aunt came over to watch the boys while Brandon and I went on a date! It was much-needed time spent with my favorite guy and definitely long overdue.

We had dinner at Fireside Pies, which was delicious! We started with a Moscow Mule (for him) and a Seasonal Watermelon White Sangria (for her):

Followed by a yummy brushetta appetizer:

Their "Triple 'Roni'" pizza (with a few added extras):

And finished with their Vanilla Bean Cheesecake with a Nilla Wafer crust and blackberry swirl. It was SO tasty!

Since we finished sooner than we thought we would, we stopped by Grapevine Springs Winery in historic downtown Grapevine for a wine flight. It was so nice to just sit and savor and talk to one another uninterrupted!

We went to church, and then Walker came home and thoroughly enjoyed all of his goodies I picked up for him on our church's Facebook "garage sale" site. Other than a quick run to Target, we did nothing all afternoon and it was lovely!

We spent the entire day at my in-law's house swimming, letting the kids play, eating, sipping wine and just visiting. It was a really fun time! (Picture overload ahead)

My sweet family of four!

Precious Knox loved rocking on the covered patio

Walker jumped in and out of that pool for hours

We looked down and realized my niece, Ellie Kate, and I were twinning with our bathing suits. Ha!

Sweet cousin (and Mimi) love!

As I mentioned earlier, I had an eye doctor and a dentist appointment yesterday. I actually had to get some reading glasses (blegh), but they're cute frames and I can't wait to actually be able to see when I read or use my computer. As my best friend said when I texted her about having to get the glasses: "Can you hear 30 coming on?!" Ugh, sadly yes! #29forsevenmoremonths

Then, I came home and folded some laundry and cleaned the bathrooms before my dentist appointment. Sadly, I have to go back and get two cavities filled next week (UGH) and I'm getting a scan for possible Invisalign! I'm excited about correcting my front two crooked teeth.

We had a lazy day, and Brandon and I actually got a nap in while the boys did, which was amazing. I definitely don't do that enough.

I made my first HelloFresh meal for supper (thanks, Rachel!) and it was really good! I can't justify paying for it every week, but it was super fun to try it out -- and we have our second meal ready for tonight, so I'm glad for another night of not having to really think about dinner!

Brandon is back at work today, and I'm missing him like crazy! It was so fun to have my best guy home with us for 4 1/2 days. I hope y'all have a wonderful week!

  1. It sounds like it was the best weekend!! So glad you got in so much family time, and some extra time just the two of you. All of that food looks SO good--my mouth was watering over here!! :)
Invisalign is awesome, but it's also a HUGE pain in the butt. We'll talk and I'll give you the deets!

  2. We are so sad about half days being over around here, too. So glad you loved your HelloFresh! I've never had a bad meal but I'm also not a picky eater (Nathan is a different story lol). You look so great in your Labor Day pics!! Way to go mama!

  3. Looked like the best long weekend! That family photo is perfect and so frame-worthy! Ps I finished stranger things and actually cried during the last one haha I obviously thought of you!

  4. That photo of Walker savoring his donut is priceless!!! Glad you all were able to sneak in a date night!

  5. Yay for date night! That sangria sounds delicious!

  6. Woohoo for date night! And you look gorgeous with your top knot and black dress. So glad you had a good long weekend! I spy a Little Blue Truck Christmas book. If you haven't seen it yet the new Halloween book is good, too!

  7. What a fun weekend!! The construction party sounds like so much fun! That's so neat you have great Christian neighbors like that! What a fun date night and Labor day party!
