Catching Up and Some Housekeeping

Before I begin, let me just say THANK YOU to you readers and friends for your comments, emails, and text messages regarding yesterday's post. I was overwhelmed to the point of tears hearing from you -- some of you who had gone through a similar experience, some of you who hadn't but offered support, and some of you who just welcomed me back with open arms. You truly are a blessing and I'm so thankful for you! If I just helped one person with my words, then I consider my post a success. Like I said yesterday, it's life: it's real, it's messy and that is okay. It's so good to be back here blogging in this space. I missed it and I missed you!

Moving on to some housekeeping before a little catching up:

+ I'm working on updating my blog to show a picture of my sweet Knox over there in the sidebar, so bear with me on that! It'll come soon. ;)

+ For the privacy of my family, I'm not going to be showing as many pictures of the boys on here. There will still be pictures, of course, because the boys are a huge part of our family, but I've just been really convicted about exactly how much of their life I put on this blog. As much as I hate it, I'll still be using my watermark on my photos of them. After reading about Jess from The Newly's horrible scare, I just have been really convicted that I can never be too careful when it comes to my children.

+ On that same vein, I won't be sharing monthly Knox updates like I did with Walker. I love looking back at my updates from when Walker was an infant, as it's been great to see where he was vs. where Knox is, but I have a few reasons as to why I'm not. First, they're so time consuming. I really relied on my blog to be Walker's updates as opposed to his baby book, and I really want to write more things down in Knox's. {Also, see above statement.} And, when I would do Walker's monthly updates, I found myself comparing him to other bloggers' babies who were his age and that's just not okay. I don't ever, ever want to compare Knox to another child -- because they're all different and hit milestones at different times! -- and I don't ever want someone to compare their child to mine and think they, as a mother, are doing something wrong, or their child isn't hitting a milestone when mine is (or vice versa). This mom thing is challenging enough as it is without the comparison factor thrown in. Comparison truly is the thief of joy!

~*~*~*~*~*~

So now that that's out of the way, let's do some catching up, shall we?! I'm going to do a more detailed "Things I'm Loving" post tomorrow, but we'll just hit the high notes over here since we last chatted in June.

A few of my recent favorites:

Favorite Song
This is so #basic, but I am obsessed with "Can't Stop the Feeling" by Justin Timberlake. It's the perfect summer song! (And the music video is adorable to boot!)

Favorite Show
Oh, this summer has been great for some good TV! Granted, I'm watching everything either on DVR or a few a night on Netflix, but I have been loving "The Bachelorette" (still can't even after last night, but I won't spoil it for those of you who haven't watched yet), "Orange is the New Black," "Feed the Beast," catching up on "Blue Bloods" and of course, all of the Real Housewives franchises that are currently airing: New Jersey, New York and Orange County. And, I cannot wait for the Olympics to start this weekend! #goAmerica

Favorite Book
More on this tomorrow, but seriously, go buy "For the Love" by Jen Hatmaker. It's the best and you'll thank me later. ;)

Favorite Recipe
We have been doing Whole 30 for about three weeks and I'm honestly loving it way more than I thought I would. I wish I would've had us eating like this a long time ago because I just feel better. I did give up my wine for about two weeks, but hello, I have a toddler and an infant...I need coffee to start my day and wine to end it. ;)

I have lost nine pounds in three weeks and have eight left to go to hit my pre-pregnancy weight. From my prior experience after Walker was born, these are the slowest to go, so I'm giving myself grace here, but I'm not going to lie when I say that I am wishing they would hurry up and head 'em up and move 'em out!

That said, we have tried a lot of Whole 30 recipes lately, only to realize it's just eating the perimeter of the grocery store...so we eat a lot of steak and roasted veggies; grilled chicken and vegetables; and eggs and avocado (sometimes together, sometimes not). But, when we're not eating that, we are using my Pinterest board as a guide. My favorite recipe lately has been Grilled Chicken and Zucchini Kebabs. They were absolutely delicious and easy!

Favorite NSale Item
Again, so #basic, but of course I had to scoop up some items from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale! More on this shirt tomorrow, but I bought these booties and am in love! Even though I don't want summer to end, I can't wait until it gets cooler here (as in, like, October) so I can wear them.

Favorite Service
Okay, I'm listing two here because I can't decide which is my favorite. First, I'm obsessed with Walmart's Grocery Pickup. I blogged all about it here, but seriously, it's the best. I've been an avid Kroger shopper until Knox was born and there was no way in the world I was dragging two kids into a grocery store to shop. I mean, I was all, "Where do I put the groceries? Who is going to fit in the buggy? WHERE IS THE WINE?!" So yeah, that wasn't happening. I love that I can just go online and order what I want at my convenience (read: nap time) and then schedule a time that works for me to pick it up. They even load the groceries in your car for you and get this: you aren't allowed to tip (even though it pains me so because they do such a great job). So yes, Walmart, you're the best right now. Want to try it for yourself? Use my referral code here for $10 off your first order! :)

Second, I'm obsessed with Facebook "garage sales." Our church has one for the mommies in our congregation, and it's all free! I've been able to get some stuff out of our house and know it's going to a good home, all while scoring some awesome stuff for us! So far, I've scooped up a brand new, still-in-the-package button-down J. Crew shirt for Brandon; a very gently used smocked Easter outfit for Knox; a Woody from "Toy Story" dress-up costume for Walker; and a ton of gently used sleepers for Knox. I love it!

  1. Love that you are doing Whole30! We had a great experience with it, except that eating out was hard. We are still following the rules now for most meals, and considering a second round in September :)

  2. I bought those booties in khaki & black and now can't wait for fall to wear them either!!! Excited to hear you're trying Whole 30! We've talked about it but our summer is so business crazy it all seemed a little overwhelming. I'm going to go check out your Pinterest board! Maybe we could start at least doing a few meals that way. 8 pounds from pre-pregnancy?! You are doing awesome!! Also, thanks for not spoiling The Bachelorette for those who don't get to watch it until tonight!

  4. I have to say, props to you for making the hard decision to not do the monthly updates and show the boys. I will miss their pictures but this space is so hard to navigate. It's going to be so challenging for me to decide what to do once we have kids. Can I say, I can't believe what went down on last night's Bachelorette finale!? I think Jojo made a horrible mistake just to be with the cool guy and get fame. Lame. Anyways, that's amazing you're doing whole 30 and already losing lots of lbs! I'm starting to think I need to hop onto whole 30 or 21 day fix in order to lose the 10 lbs I gained since getting married :/ Love those booties from the N Sale!

  5. I'm so glad you are "back!!" I just read your post from yesterday and all I can say is wow. I'm so sorry you had to go through that and I just want you to know I think about and send up prayers for you A LOT when I'm struggling with how much harder things are when Nathan is gone. You are the strongest person to me for doing it with two!! I'm already over the monthly updates and I've only done two, so I totally understand that too!!
