Thoughts for Thursday: Confessions

Hey, y'all. Sorry for the lack of posts this week, but I have one week and six days until my due date (but who's counting…oh yeah, me!) and I'm just lacking motivation to do much around this blog. So, apologies on that front. But, I'm linking up with Annie and Natalie to share my confessions today!

+ I most definitely blocked out the last month of pregnancy from the first go-round. There's no bones about it: the last few weeks just aren't fun. I waddle everywhere, sleep is non-existent and I just don't feel like myself. It was 90+ degrees in North Texas on Tuesday and I was practically dying! I was big pregnant with Walker in the winter, so I most definitely sympathize with those of you who have to make it through the summer. I'm just so beyond ready to meet this sweet boy!

+ If he's not here by his due date (May 25), they're inducing me at 5 a.m. on May 27. As of Tuesday, I'm 3 cm. dilated and 90% effaced, so we're praying he comes on his own, but we shall see!

+ Nesting is in full force around here; I just want to clean and organize all the things! My latest task has been Walker's mess of a toy box. Things just get thrown in there and it drives me crazy -- especially when he throws a fit because he can't find that particular Matchbox car in the deep bowels of the toy box. So, I "organized" toys by grouping them together in giant Ziploc baggies and labeled them (e.g. "Band Instruments," "Matchbox Cars," "Noise-Making Cars and Trucks," etc.) It will probably be a mess again by this time next week, but at least I can say I tried!

+ Since it's been so warm here, I've been making lots of pasta salad and/or light quinoa salad-type recipes. I'm sure Brandon is sick of them, but I can't get enough right now! My recent favorites have been this avocado pasta salad; this Mexican corn quinoa salad; and this tortellini pasta salad. (And bonus, none of these involve mayo!) Give me all the pasta salad!

+ This article got me a bit frustrated, because people only read the (misleading) article title and not the article itself in its entirety and then got all up in arms about it. Let's all just slow down and take five minutes to read the full article. Of course I'm terrified of SIDS and do everything in my power to prevent it. However, the second paragraph of the article clearly states that if a baby is swaddled and then laid on their stomach or side, the risk is astronomical as compared to a baby who is swaddled and placed on their back, as you're taught in all parenting classes and by doctors. (Who swaddles a baby and then lays them on their stomach or side anyway?!)

+ It drives me bananas when people don't slow down in school zones. There's an area near our house where people speed like bats out of hell and take no heed to the blinking light and the posted speed limit of 20 miles per hour during certain hours. I finally called our local police station and asked them to monitor the area…and what do you know? I saw people getting pulled over yesterday morning in said school zone. I'm sorry, but that could be my babies (or me!) you're running over by not slowing down! #mamabear #notashamed

+ I'm super jealous of all of y'all who have visited and/or are visiting the beach this summer! We're already planning a trip for next summer (ha!) and it will be both boys' first times at the beach. I'm already looking forward to it!

+ One of my friends recently brought these to the splash pad for the kids to snack on, and Walker and I are officially obsessed. She found hers at Sam's, but mine was out, so I found them on Amazon. (Seriously, what did we do before Amazon?!) Yay for (somewhat) healthy snacking!

+ I got a pedicure on Saturday, but I'm tempted to go get one next weekend if this baby hasn't arrived simply for the foot and leg massage alone. Is that bad?!

+ We finally settled on a double stroller for the boys, and I'm really excited about it. It's not the fanciest by any stretch of the imagination, but it will do what I need it to do: get a baby and a toddler from point A to point B safely! We purchased the Baby Trend Sit N Stand Ultra Stroller after reading good reviews on it -- and after seeing that it can accommodate a Britax infant car seat. We were looking at the Joovy Caboose Ultralight, but the reviews were practically the same -- and you can't beat the price difference! So, all of that said, I'm selling our basic umbrella stroller (that we rarely used anyway) and am keeping our Britax B-Agile Travel System for when it's just the baby and me, and we'll use the double stroller when I need to cart around both boys. Whew! #somanyproducts

+ I'm itching to try some of these beauty products from Trader Joe's, but I'm going to admit: I'm a little hesitant. Have any of y'all tried them?

So that's it: that's what I'm confessing today. What about you?!
I promise I'll be back tomorrow, too, with a Friday post. ;) Until then!

  1. I had no idea they made mini Larabars! The big ones fill me up like a whole meal and sometimes that's just not pleasant. Don't worry, they are already on their way to me - thanks Amazon Prime :) Those pasta salads sound so yummy, especially that avocado one. Will be making that this weekend! I'm sooo jealous of everyone going to the beach this summer, too. My parents are going mid-June and Nathan will be out of town at the same time so they are really pressuring me to go. But 17 hours in a car with a 4 week old? Sounds like misery.

  2. Girl if that baby isn't here this weekend, you get yourself another pedicure...isn't there something about pressure points that can help induce?! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  3. Girl, you are so close! I seriously don't know how women do it all summer long while carrying another human. You go get yourself as many pedicures as you need until that baby comes!
Also, I've been searching for quinoa salad recipes after reading your weekend recap - def making that one this weekend! ~ Hannah (www.HannahAtHomeBlog.com)

  4. Jealous that you have a definite end in sight! On Monday I was not dilated at all and 75% effaced, so that made me feel a little discouraged. Hope your baby boy decides to come on his own before then though :)

  5. I can't believe your due date is so close!! I'm such an OCD freak now that I can only imagine what I'll be organizing and labeling if we have a child and I'm in the nesting phase. You totally deserve another pedicure if you want one! Pasta salad...yum! I think I could eat it every day in the summer!

  7. Girl, I had hot flashes in the winter when I was pregnant. I feel SO sorry for you having to endure that kind of heat! That pasta salad sounds super yummy. And I definitely get a pedicure for the massage chair most of the time. :) Fingers crossed little man comes soon!

  8. Good for you for asking the police to monitor the area! And for the police to actually take action. Living in a city where there's so much "real" crime for the police to focus on has led to little things like this going by the wayside (police barely respond to car break-ins anymore), so happy to hear that your police force takes everything seriously.
