Weekending

Happy Monday, friends! We had such a great weekend of family time before our literal March Madness begins (and extends until the second week of April). It was so great to just be together as a family and get some things done around our house. Here's how we spent our weekend:

-FRIDAY-
Walker and I had such a low-key morning at home and had no plans and nowhere to be; it was so nice! We did mess-free finger painting, which he loved (and I loved that the clean-up is completely nil). I just put a piece of printer paper in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag and pour a few colors of the Crayola Washable Kids Paint onto the paper, zip the bag and use masking tape to tape it to his little table on all sides. Easy peasy!

Since we had no plans, we decided to meet Brandon for lunch at a little cafĂ© by his office, and Walker enjoyed seeing the moving "choo-choo train" passing by outside of the restaurant.

That night, I made Jessie James Decker's mom's recipe for Cajun Shrimp Pasta {recipe here}, and it was absolutely delicious! We will be adding this to our dinner rotation for sure.

After Walker was in bed, we watched "Bridge of Spies," which was actually a pretty good movie! I started having Braxton Hicks contractions about midway through the movie, so that made it a completely unpleasant experience. I never had them with Walker (and was induced and got an epidural super early on), so I didn't really know what to expect, nor what contractions really felt like, as awful as that sounds. So, I'll definitely be drinking more water, taking it easier on my body and relaxing in warm baths in the evenings moving forward; we need sweet baby to stay in there as long as possible!

-SATURDAY-
We were up and at 'em for a visit to the Dallas Zoo! Each February, the zoo does "Penguin Days," where tickets are just $5! So we took full advantage of that and our 70* weather and hit the zoo together, packing a picnic lunch and just enjoying the day.

Walker had so much fun seeing the "eh-puh-pants" (elephants), feeding the giraffe with Brandon, petting goats in the Children's Petting Zoo area, and seeing crocodiles ("Go 'SNAP SNAP!'" as he says). He keeps reminding us that he fed the "jaff" and that it "yicked my fingers," and that "jaffs have yong necks!" So I think it's safe to say he had a good time. ;)

We all took naps when we got home, and then the boys mowed the yard together. Walker absolutely loves doing everything his Daddy does, and it's just precious!

After our dinner of leftovers and getting Walker down for the night, Brandon and I watched one episode of "Fuller House," and then moved on to "Burnt." The latter was cute, but it's definitely a show I'll be watching on my own without Brandon; he wasn't nearly as into it as I was! But, we both really enjoyed the former (I mean, Bradley Cooper, hello!) and both agreed it made us super hungry!

-SUNDAY-
We went to church, and then came home and had leftovers before tackling a big thing on our to-do list: getting ready to get new carpet on Wednesday! Thankfully, Lowe's is having their installers move our furniture, but we had to detach bed frames from headboards and move anything that wasn't furniture into our dining room. (Which of course it now looks like we're hoarders, but I keep telling myself it will all be put back by Wednesday evening!)

Brandon also got down some more baby stuff from the attic and I washed a good bit of it, and we relaxed for the remainder of the afternoon and evening.

I made a super easy casserole for supper and then we watched the Oscars! I'll be back tomorrow with my favorite Oscar looks, so stay tuned for that. :)

  5. Those pictures of Walker at the zoo are just too precious!! And I'm so jealous of your 70 degree weather! New carpet week - HOORAY! It's probably so stressful to have your house in all disheveled but the result will totally be worth it!!

Take it easy girl and look after yourself, I can only imagine how uncomfortable braxton hicks are.
