Weekending: First One of 2016

Happy Monday! It's back to the grind today, as Brandon is back to work, kids are back to school and the hustle and bustle of Christmas and New Year's is behind us. I'm sad to see the holidays go, but excited about the clean slate a new year brings.

We're now officially on the countdown for Baby #2 in May! Which, by the way, did you see that we're having a boy?! We were so excited to find out on New Year's Eve that Walker will be having a little brother. Can't wait to meet our sweet boy in just a few short months!

Other than finding out our exciting news Thursday, the week between Christmas and New Year's Day was such a blur. I never knew what day it is, what I should be doing or what was going on in the world. With bowl games on TV all day, every day, I was just so confused with life.

As far as our weekend was concerned, we had our friends Ashley and Steven and their daughter, Caroline, over to celebrate New Year's Eve. Since we both have kids {and I'm pregnant}, we kept it really low-key with appetizers at our house: baked brie, a cheese plate with crackers and bread, spinach dip, hummus and brownies. And of course, wine and beer for those who could partake! It was so relaxed, easy and fun with our friends. We all parted ways around 8 p.m. to get kids bathed and in bed, and Brandon and I were super cool and were in bed by 10:30 p.m. Ha!

On New Year's Day, we did a bunch of cleaning out and checking things off of our to-do list, including a ton of stuff we'd been needing to do in the baby's room. I was thankfully able to reuse a ton of Walker's old clothes, so I was busy getting those washed, folded, and put away; straightening the nursery; and having Brandon pull things down from the attic.

For dinner, we had a traditional Southern supper of black-eyed peas (for luck), roasted cabbage (for money), pork (for prosperity) and cornbread (for gold). Do any of y'all have a similar New Year's Day meal?

We ran some errands on Saturday, including using a gift card to Janie and Jack to buy some matching clothes for the boys. {It feels so cool and weird to say that!} We stopped by my in-law's for lunch, then came home and watched more bowl games and got some more stuff done around the house. (There is nothing I love more than a clean, organized house for a new year!)

Sunday, we went to church and heard an awesome message from our pastor. It was a great way to spend the first Sunday of 2016! After church, we went to the {awful} Cowboys game for Walker's first experience! We were graciously gifted tickets and decided to take the little man to see what it was all about. If you follow me on Snapchat {brittwhit87}, you saw that he loved the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and only sat still when they came on the jumbotron. ;) But in all seriousness, Walker was really enthralled and even asked me where the "mo-mote" {AKA: remote} was to change the channel on the jumbotron. Ha!

He came home and took a 3-hour nap, so I consider it a win for sure!

Some other things we've been up to around here are eating our favorite yummy, healthy breakfasts: fruit and yogurt parfaits. These are so easy, yummy and a great way to kick off the new year with a good breakfast each day. Just simply layer {in a bowl or a fun stemless wine glass, like me!}: granola, vanilla yogurt {Greek or regular}, and strawberries and blueberries, then repeat. Even Walker loves these, and let me tell y'all, they make a great little snack, too!

We also got in our new wine rack from Target, which prompted Brandon to clean off our bar cart. We decided simplicity is key! {And put the rest of the liquor away on a top shelf in our pantry.} I couldn't believe this was only $16.99!

And yes, we're still rocking Christmas jammies over here, because that's how we roll. ;)

I hope y'all have a great Monday and a wonderful start to 2016!

  1. You guys have been busy! And congrats on the boy news--that's so exciting!!!
Sorry about the cowboys....if it's any consolation, the entire NFC east stinks (I'm a skins fan, so I'm used to the disappointment). At least it was a fun experience tho!
Happy Monday and Happy New Year!!

  7. What a great New Year's Eve and day!! We always try to eat the black eyed peas, ham, collard greens and some kind of roll - next year I need to make cornbread! That's a riot Walker loved the cheerleaders - what a fun experience!
