What's Up Wednesday: August 2015

Happy Wednesday! I'm joining together with Shay, Mel and Sheaffer for "What's Up Wednesday"...

…to answer the following questions:

So let's get to it!

{1} What We're Eating This Week:
We've been eating a lot of yummy suppers so far this week, including:

And steaks, accompanied with this yummy mushroom truffle risotto

{2} What I'm Reminiscing About
After binge-watching "Friday Night Lights" this weekend and every night this week, I'm reminiscing about high school and wishing I lived in a small town like the one I grew up in! {Seriously, I watch this show and keep saying, "This. is. Livingston!"} My 10-year high school reunion is this fall and I'm part excited, part nervous and part "I know I'm going to want to move to a small town stat" after going.

{3} What I'm Loving
This one's pretty easy! I'm loving my new role {as in, I'm only three days into it} as a stay-at-home mom to Walker. I'm truly enjoying getting to spend more one-on-one time with him, and I am loving the slower pace of life after an extremely hectic last three years working in school PR {and five years before that working for a PR agency}.

{4} What We've Been Up To
We haven't been up to that much, truthfully: play dates with friends; spending lots of time together; doing things around the house I haven't had the chance or time to do in a while; running errands and doing craft projects. It's so hot outside, we've really been trying to take it easy!

{5} What I'm Dreading
Walker has his very first dentist appointment today, and I'm dreading how it's going to go. I'm praying for no tantrums, screams or flat-out refusals to go through with it {from him, of course!}. But, it's a pediatric dentist and I keep telling myself they surely must see that all the time…right?!

{6} What I'm Working On
I'm still working on trying to lighten up the house and get rid of some of the dark colors we've had in here for a while. {Isn't it funny how your taste just changes?} Here are some of the recent minor updates:

{7} What I'm Excited About
Brandon's 30th birthday is in December and my brother is doing the Baylor in New York program, so we're taking a trip to the Big Apple in December to celebrate Brandon's big 3-0 and also see my brother. So excited about Christmas in New York!

{8} What I'm Watching/Reading
Of course, we're still bingeing on "Friday Night Lights," and I'm still getting caught up on the RHONY reunions. I'm definitely looking forward to "Ladies of London" coming back next month! On the book side of things, I'm reading Dr. James Dobson's "Strong-Willed Child," because I definitely have one of those! ;)

{9} What I'm Listening To
Since I'm no longer driving 40 minutes round-trip every day, I haven't been listening to nearly as much radio as I used to! My favorite song right now is Omi's "Cheerleader." It's on constant repeat in my house. And of course, Walker has me listening to his favorite CD every chance he gets as we run errands. :)

{10} What I'm Wearing
Well, my clothes definitely are a little more fun these days! Let's be honest: I'm typically in yoga pants and a T-shirt {because it's hotter than Hades outside…#Texas}. But when I'm not, I've been having some fun with some new non-work outfits {and I can't take a selfie to save my life…}:

{11} What I'm Doing This Weekend
We don't have any big plans, and for that, I'm thankful! Our friends are coming over for some wine on the patio on Friday night, and my brother- and sister-in-law are coming over with our niece so the cousins can have a little play date on Saturday, but as of right now, that's all that's on our agenda and I'm thrilled!

{12} What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month
It's totally cheesy, but I'm looking forward to the Season 2 premiere of "Ladies of London" and all of our fall shows to come back. I'm also looking forward to the long Labor Day weekend when Brandon will be home with us all day, and my mom's birthday!

{13} Bonus Question: What's My Favorite Back-to-School Tradition
Growing up, my parents always took our first day of school picture by the huge pine tree in the front yard of their old house. I can't find any of my first day of school pictures in front of the pine tree on my computer to share, but I do have this picture: my sister and my last picture in front of the old pine tree. You see, my parents moved a few years ago and we had to get one last picture there. {And yes, I was newly pregnant and super emotional here!}

When I was in school -- especially in the late 90's and early 00's when I was super worried about my shellacked hairsprayed hair -- I would give my parents attitude about going outside and taking a first day of school picture in the raging humidity. But now, as an adult with a child of my own, I so appreciate those yearly pictures in front of that tree. When they moved, I totally felt like Annie Banks in "Father of the Bride: Part II" when they were moving and she said she "only took a whole roll" of pictures of the tree. Ha!

Have a happy Wednesday!

  1. Yes to the RHONY reunions! Im watching those too and loving every minute. So sad to see the season end!

  2. Yes to fall TV!! I didn't know Ladies of London was coming back - will be adding that to the DVR :)

  3. We are going to NYC the last weekend in November, I cannot wait!! Saving this post for all those delicious recipes :)

  4. So glad you are enjoying staying at home so far! Your changes to the house look great. Love the photo of the tree! Hope you enjoy your relaxing weekend :) Hopefully you'll get to watch some more FNL! I am already fighting the urge to watch it all over again!

  5. I am doing the same thing with my decor. I had such different tastes when I first decorated our house (totally found the style I was after all this time was what Joanna Gaines does on Fixer Upper), but it is such a slow process because it is hard to find everything I want and its soooo expensive. Looks great!!
