Why Moms Need a Break

On behalf of the Chobani Flips #BreakYouMake project for National Break You Make Day (which was June 3), I wanted to nominate someone who deserves a much-needed break. Not only do I love Chobani products {see here for some proof!}, I love the mission behind #BreakYouMake.

Everyone needs a break every now and then, do they not? I'm sitting here raising my hand, and I hope you're nodding your head "yes."

But you know who needs a big, giant, "here's to you" break? MOMS. We really do it all, don't we? Whether we work full-time, part-time, or stay at home, we work. And hard

I don't know how it is in your house, but I like to refer to myself as the "default parent." I'm business, Brandon's fun. I love my husband dearly, but I don't see him packing and putting away Walker's clothes that no longer fit; or buying birthday gifts and cards for our niece and nephew; figuring out what our family is bringing to Thanksgiving; staying home with Walker when he's sick; filling out and signing all the forms for school; or taking Walker to his well-child visits and holding him down, singing "You Are My Sunshine" to him as the nurse sticks his leg with a shot for the umpteenth time...

Moms = Default Parents.

As for me, I work a 40+ hour week and still come home to do some work once Walker is in bed. {Welcome to the "lovely" world of Public Relations!} I answer emails while we're out on a walk -- gotta get that workout in somehow, sometime!; I clean my house when he's taking a nap on Saturdays; and I still do the doctor's appointments, play dates and classes. Whew, it makes me tired just thinking about it!

Moms: We need a BREAK!

Of course, a week away to a tropical island would be just what the doctor ordered, but that might not be feasible for everyone's schedule -- or budget. Even if it's just a quick walk around the neighborhood {alone}, a hot bath in peace and quiet {without a kid staring at you}, or a glass of wine on the patio with a girlfriend while the husbands are on baby duty: we need a little mommy time out!

So, I'm encouraging all of you moms out there to do just that: put Dad {or grandparents, or a babysitter} in charge of the kids and make some time for yourself. You will feel better, more relaxed and trust me, you'll be a better mom {and wife!} because of it.

And while you're taking your much-needed mama break, try one of Chobani's Flips: Greek yogurt paired with crunchy, natural mix-ins, like Key Lime Crumble, Salted Caramel Crunch {my fave!} and Coco Loco. New flavors that they've introduced this month, perfectly timed with National #BreakYouMake Day: Peanut Butter Dream, Coffee Break Bliss, Strawberry Summer Crisp and a convenient four-pack of Almond Coco Loco and Key Lime Crumble. YUM! I'm not gonna lie, I plopped myself on the porch the other night with one of these bad boys and just sat outside alone in silence while Brandon was on bath and bed duty.

Disclaimer: A Chobani representative reached out to me to share who I think needs a break as part of their #BreakYouMake campaign. I was not compensated for this post.

  1. Couldn't agree more with this post! A break every now and then does a mom good. It's important to take time for ourselves to recharge our batteries and rest our brains.

  2. Oh my gosh you read my mind, I was just about to post about this same thing haha! The tantrums are what really are making me want to have a mommy break! I always joke with my husband about what would happen if I was gone for a month... They would probably starve and be waking around naked!
