Thoughts for Thursday: My Favorite Sunscreens

School is out tomorrow, which officially means "summer" in my book! We live in North Texas - known for its summers with temperatures in the 100s and blistering sun.

Because of this, I'm a religious sunscreen-wearer. I promise I won't make this post about being safe in the sun {because seriously, tanning = wrinkles and cancer}, but I do want to share with you my tried-and-true sunscreens for both adults and little ones alike.

None of these options break the bank at all, which - aside from the protection they provide - is my favorite thing about them!

I have combination skin, so I need a face sunscreen that isn't going to break out the oily parts of my face and/or clog my pores. I've found that Neutrogena has the best face sunscreen options for this very reason; I'm very loyal to them when it comes to face sunscreen! I always use this sunscreen on my face and ears - especially when we're at the beach or the pool. When we're on the beach, I will go the extra mile and use this zinc oxide on my ears, forehead and the back of my neck since I tend to burn a lot more there than other portions of my face.

I typically use anywhere from an SPF 30 to SPF 45 on my body, but definitely nothing lower. (And sometimes I'll go higher.) Each of these is a staple in our house. Brandon's favorite is the Banana Boat Sport, because he's always running around and is super active at the pool or on the beach. It is very good about not sweating off and lasts a while. I personally love the Coppertone Clearly Sheer and the Australian Gold sunscreens, as they go on perfectly, sheerly and smell amazing

For Walker, I always want to use an SPF 50 or higher {and reapply constantly}. Right now, since he's just 16 months old and not running around like a 5-year-old would, I am still applying the lotion sunscreens to his face and body, as opposed to the sprays or sticks. Granted, his teachers at school use a stick sunscreen for extra protection on his face, neck and ears when they go outside to play at school, but I strictly use the lotions.

A cult favorite is the Coppertone Water Babies sunscreen; I'm sure we've all used this on our kids or had our parents use it on us! It's a cult classic for a reason: great coverage and SPF and plus, it smells like summer to me. Since Walker has eczema, our pediatrician recommended a gentle, mineral sunscreen, and one I like {in terms of coverage} is the Babyganics brand. Granted, it's really hard to completely rub in - especially before my little wiggle worm wants to go play - but it works! My final favorite is the Aveeno Baby sunscreen. I love that it's an SPF 55 and it goes on very smoothly and absorbs quickly.

Do you have any sunscreen favorites? Have you tried any of these?

  1. Neutrogena is seriously my all time favorite face lotion!

  2. WOOHOOO SUMMER!!!! I love Neutrogena for face, such great coverage and not sticky or greasy.

  3. Love Neutrogena as well, and the CVS by me has some good house brand face sunscreens. Confession: I still use Water Babies occasionally.
