Weekending: Memorial Day Edition

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend! It was so nice to have an extra day to relax and enjoy my family, even though I'm seriously about to start building that dang ark! We have had so much rain in Texas lately that it's getting very dangerous and the flooding has caused a lot of devastation across the state. We just need some sunshine!

Anyway, let's get to this weekending wrap-up, shall we?

Brandon came back from his out-of-the-country business trip, and Walker and I were super excited to see him! We all went to the grocery store together {it was a madhouse!} and once Walker was in bed, we watched "The Boy Next Door."

Since it was raining cats and dogs, we decided that it was a better time than ever to finally finish remodeling Walker's bathroom and change the light fixtures in our bathroom! We made a trip to Home Depot, and Walker was out like a light between the road noise and the rain!

Brandon started removing the 20-year-old studio light fixture and mirror, only to find the former owners cut even more corners there. If you've been reading this blog a while, you know that the former owners cut corners EVERYWHERE and we have been paying for it when we go to remodel anything in the house. {For example, painting over wallpaper. Who does that?}

Anyway, while Brandon was re-drywalling the bathroom, Walker and I made a trip to Home Goods for some décor items for his bathroom.

While Brandon was finishing up the drywall and putty, Walker climbed up in the chair in our bedroom with his little bowl of Cheerios and sat like this, intently watching the news. Ha!

That evening, my aunt came over for dinner and to see Walker. I made a pork tenderloin, mashed white beans and oven-roasted zucchini; it was delicious if I do say so myself! ;)

My aunt gave Walker his very first popsicle {the yummy tangerine + carrot fruit ones!}. He kept saying, "Mmmmm!"

We played hooky from church so Brandon could make progress on the bathrooms before going to The Colonial golf tournament with his Dad. While he went there, Walker and I went to Target to get out of the house and kill some time. He clearly had fun with the light-up glasses! ;)

Once Brandon got home, we put the finishing touches on our projects. I finally finished distressing the side table in Walker's room {that was Brandon's grandmother's}:

Brandon finished the light fixtures and mirror in Walker's bathroom, and I decorated it:

Just for grins, here was the bathroom when we first moved in {yuck!}:

Special shout-out to my awesome Home Goods for having all of the décor I needed for Walker's bathroom! {Seriously, I have the best Home Goods ever.}

That evening, I made a delicious Shrimp, Roasted Corn, Bacon and Avocado Salad, which I adapted from this recipe. Instead of making her buttermilk ranch dressing, I just top ours with a lemon vinaigrette and we both love it!

After dinner, we watched "Jobs" and went to bed.

We had some friends over for brunch in our PJ's and mimosas, of course! Walker absolutely adores their daughter, Emily, and would just lay on her and kiss her all over. It was so sweet!

Brandon made scrambled eggs with truffle oil and Parmesan cheese; Ezekiel Bread toast and jam; and baked tomatoes. It was to die for!

Around lunchtime, we went to my in-law's for their annual Memorial Day bar-b-que. Of course, I captioned this photo: "True Life: I Have a Toddler." He didn't want to sit still for the life of him!

And again, just for grins, here is our little family on Memorial Day last year!

We spent the day eating, drinking and visiting. It was a nice afternoon, even though we had a torrential downpour and the temperature dropped 15 degrees!

Walker and my niece, Ellie Kate, giving each other kisses goodbye as we were all leaving. {I'll definitely be using this one for the graduation slideshow in 17 years! Ha!}

  1. Oh my gosh, Walker's bathroom came out so cute!! Is it funny that I get so sad when people say they got something I love that TJMaxx or Home Goods? There is NO CHANCE I will ever find that awesome item in mine haha!

  2. It looks like y'all were able to have a great time among all the rain. I hope Texas gets some reprieve from all the rain and the sunshine comes out soon!

  3. Did Walker pick up a new friend? That stuffed animal is adorable!

    And I'm really sorry to hear about all of the corners that the previous owners did, shady! Some of our stuff we've noticed that while it was done in code, it wasn't done well.
