Happy Monday! We had such amazing weather in North Texas this weekend and the name of our game this weekend was "outside!"

I took off work and Walker and I just played all morning! He had his one-year check-up and immunizations in the afternoon, which I always hate for him. This time, he got three separate shots - which totally sucks for him. But our big boy weighed in at 26 lbs., 1.5 oz. (86%) and 31 in. (87%)!

Friday night, Brandon, my aunt and I went to a local Mexican restaurant for dinner, and Walker was practically delirious. He was being a goof and we were cracking up!

We took Walker to the zoo for the first time! In January and February, the Dallas Zoo has admission for $5 for adults, and kids two and under are free! So we decided to take advantage of that and the gorgeous weather and hit up the zoo.

After packing a picnic lunch, packing up the car and applying a ton of sunscreen to all of us, we got there right as the zoo opened at 9 a.m. And of course the little man was asleep, so we waited his morning nap out in the car for a bit. Ha!

Once he woke up, we ventured into the zoo! He loved riding in his car with a blanket over his legs and seeing all of the animals!

Much to my chagrin, he loved the reptile room and was mesmerized by the iguanas. {Ick!}

I had always heard the Dallas Zoo is "so-so," but we were so impressed by it! The zoo is clean, 99% of the animals were out and about, and their staff was very friendly and helpful. We loved that you could really feel like you were up-close-and-personal with the animals, as well.

We packed a picnic lunch for each of us and enjoyed lunch in the sunshine in one of the zoo's picnic areas. And of course, the second we got in the car, Walker was out! {And proceeded to take a three-hour nap once we got home. Maybe we should go to the zoo more often?!}

I got my hair trimmed in the afternoon, then we spent the rest of the afternoon picking weeds in the garden and playing with Walker outside. Brandon grilled steaks for supper and we watched "Labor Day" on Amazon Fire TV.

Walker had some epic bedhead when he woke up...that kid is so much like me it cracks me up! No matter how hard I try, I am not one of those girls who can wake up looking pretty. Ha!

We ran a few errands, grabbed brunch at one of our favorite local spots, and then did some more work outside in the garden.

...and Walker decided to help me pull weeds by being my taste-tester. Someone commented on my Facebook post of this picture: "#greendentalfloss." I cracked up at that; so true!

We stayed outside as long as possible and just let Walker play and enjoy the sunshine. I made a yummy dinner for us to eat, and then also made a homemade lasagna {that has to sit in the fridge overnight} for us to enjoy tonight! Whew!

Hope y'all had a wonderful weekend and a great week!

  1. Yay for Walker's first trip to the zoo!! He's so cute in his little car. Sounds like a fun weekend. How did you like Labor Day? Happy Monday!

  2. Sounds like a fun weekend! We have the Riverbanks Zoo here in Columbia and I'm already planning a day date for me and my husband. It's such a great way to get outside and move around. :)

    1. Yes, I agree! When the weather is so nice like that, I can't help but want to get out and about!

  3. Looks like so much fun!! I want to take my little one to the zoo. We don't have any good zoos near us :(
