Walker's 1st Birthday Party: The Details

As I shared with y'all yesterday, Walker's first birthday party theme was a circus! I chose that theme because I always joke that our lives are a three-ring circus, so it was perfect. Plus, we lovingly call Walker "monkey," so it just fit.

I began planning for Walker's birthday party this summer, and it turned out exactly how I had imagined! Truthfully, I didn't go too crazy with the theme, but I did have fun with it.

So, here are the details. If you see something you have a question about, just shoot me an email and I'll be happy to answer anything!

My mother-in-law graciously offered to have the party at her house, and I was very thankful for that! We just don't have enough room at our house to host 30+ people, and since she does, it was the perfect locale.

The invitation {along with the food labels and favor tags} were created by my cousin, Rebecca. She doesn't have a site or anything - yet - but I was so impressed with her work! I sent her a few emails with ideas I had, and she sent this back to me. Of course, I had to black out the address of the party, along with my cell phone number and email address, but you get the picture.

I had scoured Pinterest for a while and knew I wanted to do a candy table. We used my mother-in-law's kitchen table and set everything up there.

Tablecloth: Target \\ Popcorn buckets: Dollar Tree \\ Candy jars and baskets: my mom & mother-in-law

Banner: I made it {Banner: Target, Letters: Michael's} \\ Birthday Hat: Etsy \\ Food Labels: My cousin Rebecca

Animal Crackers: Dollar Tree \\ Cracker Jacks: Dollar Tree \\ Tickets: Dollar Tree

Gumballs: Amazon \\ Circus Peanuts: Amazon \\ Animal Crackers in Box: Amazon

Pretzels: Target \\ Cotton Candy: Kroger \\ "Fresh Peanuts" Signs: Pinterest

Plates, Napkins, Straws, Cutlery: Target \\ Lollipops: Dollar Tree {N/A} \\ Peanuts: Dollar Tree \\ Popcorn: Dollar Tree

Sign: Pinterest \\ Animal Crackers in Box: Amazon

Drink Dispenser: Bed, Bath & Beyond {wedding gift}

I served water and lemonade from here, and also had white wine and beer available.

Cupcakes: Hurley House {my aunt's company}

Instead of having cake for everyone, I did chocolate and vanilla cupcakes so we wouldn't have to bother with cutting and serving. Just made it easier!

Walker's smash cake: Hurley House {my aunt's company}

Bottled water: Target \\ Galvanized Metal Tub: Own

I used my mother-in-law's giant island to serve hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and salsa. I just used a basket and put the plates and paper straws in there, and put the cutlery in red glass cups my mother-in-law had.

I used my own chalkboard and put this message above the fireplace.

I used Walker's monthly pictures and created a banner for the fireplace out of them. {At the time I took this picture, I hadn't yet glued on his 12-month picture I had taken the day before.}

Thank you for visiting Walker's circus via pictures with us!

  1. So cute! We loved everything! Thanks for having us!

  2. Ah! You did such an amazing job!! It looks great and I love the theme!! That smooches sign is adorable. Question - do you like your drink dispenser? I got a different one and had to take it back because it didn't work, but really like the ones you have. Does it work ok?
