Happy Friday!

I finally bit the bullet and ordered Walker's first year book! It was a lot of time and effort, but I am so excited he will have this book to look back on the first year of his life...especially since we don't print pictures out for photo albums like we did I was a baby!

I have used iPhoto to make photo books since college, and I'm always more than impressed with their quality and timeliness. Plus, it doesn't hurt that all of my photos are already in iPhoto when I plug in my iPhone or memory card from my good camera!

Creating this book made my heart melt at his little, itty bitty newborn squishiness. When they say it goes by so fast, they aren't joking! {In all of these pictures he is less than one week old!}

I picked up this shampoo and conditioner on a whim at Target the other day, and holy amazingness does it smell AWESOME. I keep getting whiffs of my hair and love it. Ha!

Speaking of Target and buying things on a whim, I bought this bathing suit - but in pink - on Tuesday when I ventured out because of cabin fever. My plan is to wear it on our trip to Jamaica this summer, even though I'm terrified of how I'm going to look in a bikini. {Eeeeek!}

I'm still going strong on my no-wine Lent! And in fact, I haven't even had a sip of alcohol, and truth be told, my skin is looking a ton better, I've lost two pounds and I'm sleeping more soundly. I'm really proud of myself for sticking to it - because goodness knows my job is super stressful and that glass of wine at night after a hectic day is always a welcomed way to take the edge off. Maybe next year I'll give up carbs or something else I love for my daily reminder why I'm giving it up!

{Although apparently if you give up alcohol for Lent, you're an alcoholic, or so I've been told. Insert eye-roll emoji and a string of laughter here. I guess if you give up sugar, you're obese or shopping you have compulsive buying disorder.}

This time next week, I will be on Spring Break. I cannot wait! This is what we have planned:

Thoughts for Thursday | Favorite Cookie Recipe

Happy Thursday!

I thought I would share my favorite cookie recipe ever with y'all today. It's my mom's recipe, and it's my go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe. {That is, when I actually have time for something other than Break & Bake cookies}

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
2/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 cups (12 pkg.) semi-sweet chocolate chips

1. Preheat oven to 375*.
2. Combine flour, baking soda and salt in a small bowl.
3. Beat butter, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla in a large mixing bowl until creamy.
4. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after after each addition.
5. Gradually beat in flour mixture.
6. Stir in chocolate chips.
7. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto a cookie stone.
8. Bake for 9-11 minutes and cool on cookie racks.

5 dozen cookies

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Well, I haven't done one of these in a while, so I figured, "Why not?" Here's a glimpse into what I'm loving lately:

one // two // three

I think I have finally found the perfect moisturizer for my combination skin! I found this moisturizer on Pinterest, and it came with high recommendations for people with skin like mine that's dry in some spots and oily in others. This has definitely been a lifesaver the past couple of days as I've had dry skin on my nose and a big ol' zit on my cheek. {Read my blog post about my other favorite moisturizers here.}

Winter Storm Quantum, I love you. While I hate that I have to work while I'm at home, it has been so nice to just be at home with Walker. I have cleaned every single thing in this house - seriously, I've even washed our couch pillows - and Walker and I have just played and played. After the crazy last week I had, this itty bit of ice was just what the doctor ordered.

Again, another Pinterest find. This lipstick is the perfect nude for people with pale skin like me. The biggest challenge is not looking washed out - and like I don't have any lips - while still being a good color that doesn't have too pinkish or brownish undertones.

I have been dying to have colored jeans for a while, and I think I might buy these cheap pair from Old Navy to test the waters.

If you haven't gotten on the Downton Abbey train, I would suggest you get on it quickly! Sunday night's episode was by far the best of this season so far. Netflix has all of the seasons right now, so watch away if you haven't yet!

Favorite Oscar Looks | 2015

Walker and I are home again today because there's 1/2 in. of ice on the ground, and when that happens, Texans freak the freak out. Although, I'm definitely not complaining about being home with my sweet boy for two days! {We haven't left the house since Saturday morning. I find that hilarious slash just shows me I could never live in the North! Ha!}

Anyway, I'll admit it: my favorite part of the Oscars is the red carpet, as I'm sure it is for many a girl! Before I get to my favorite looks, I have to say that Neil Patrick Harris is hilarious. He had me in stitches and I hope he hosts again next year.

Also? I absolutely loved J.K. Simmons' acceptance speech. Did you notice it was all about family? He didn't thank his agent, his production company, his one but family. I loved that! If there's one thing I can't stand is when actors go up there and read off a piece of paper and thank everyone they've ever come in contact with in their life. {I'm looking at you, Patricia Arquette!}. So, J.K. Simmons' speech was perfect to me. I'm glad I talked to my mom about 10 minutes before! ;)

Okay, on to my favorite looks of the night {L-R}:

Margot Robbie: Yves St. Laurent
Jennifer Lopez: Elie Saab Haute Couture
Rosamund Pike: Givenchy
Jennifer Aniston: Versace
Anna Faris: Zuhar Murad Couture
Cate Blanchett: John Galliano for Maison Margiela

Which were your favorites?

Happy Monday! My school district {along with a ton of others in the North Texas area} have cancelled school for today because of sleet. Literally. Welcome to Texas. Although I'm definitely enjoying having an extra day at home with Walker today!

Let's recap the weekend, shall we? Warning: boring weekend wrap-up below!

I had been feeling awful all week, and I finally bit the bullet and went to the doctor. Turns out, I had a sinus infection and an ear infection. {I didn't even know adults could get those...} After getting loaded up with an antibiotic, a cough suppressant and a nasal spray, I picked up Walker and we came home. Truthfully, I can't even remember what we did Friday night because I just passed out once Walker was in bed. It had been a long week full of sickness, and sleep was just what the doctor ordered...literally.

Walker slept in until 7:40 a.m., and Brandon brought me breakfast in bed. It was a Christmas miracle!

We all had some great sleep, including Walker, who woke up with crazy hair. Seriously, this poor child gets his epic bed head from his mama! {Sorry, Walker.}

We spent the day running to the grocery store, catching up on DVR'd TV shows and napping. I was desperate to get well.

I used this recipe as a guide and took my own spin on it for Saturday night's supper. Brandon dubbed them, "BLATS" for bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato and salmon sandwiches.

Instead of hamburger buns, I toasted sandwich bread. I also added some dill and lemon juice to the avocado before I mashed it up. The recipe doesn't call for bacon, but I added it to this recipe...because, bacon. With the salmon, I used The Pioneer Woman's recipe to bake it, and added some Tony Chachere's and dill, as well.

So basically, I used the recipe but yeah, not really. ;)

After supper {which Walker loved, by the way!}, we gave Walker his first bubble bath...which he hated. Womp womp. If he could talk {in full sentences}, he would probably say, "Get these bubbles off of me!"

We spent the morning cleaning, picking up and allowing me to be raised back to the life of the living. Thank you Lord for antibiotics!

Walker was looking out the window at this non-weather thinking, "Where is all of this ice and snow you've been referring to, people?"

We watched the Oscars {my favorite looks coming tomorrow!} and ate our weight in Girl Scout cookies. Neil Patrick Harris is brilliant!

Happy Friday!

After the crazy week I've had, this is all that is crossing my brain at this point:

My fellow school district employees, teachers and college employees...I know you can agree! Can we all just agree that March needs to arrive quickly?

Do any of y'all watch "Fixer Upper?" Brandon and I love that show! The couple, Chip and Joanna Gaines, went to Baylor and live in Waco. Since Brandon and I both went to Baylor {and met there}, the show holds a special place in our hearts. I told Brandon I would move to Waco in a heartbeat anyway, but especially if I could get the Gaines' to fix up my house!

Like his mama, Walker is obsessed with Thin Mints. Brandon recorded this video on Sunday of him enjoying not one, not two, but three cookies. Please ignore my unmade-up face!

All I can dream about these days is our trip to Jamaica in July. Cannot, cannot, cannot wait to be in Montego Bay with a drink in my hand in a few short months!

I recently purchased Wet 'n' Wild Think Pink (901B) lipstick because I heard it was a dupe for Mac Angel. I'm such a weenie, but I'm too scared to try it! Probably because it's cold outside and I'm super pale, and I have this weird thing about not wearing super pink lipstick until spring or summer. {I know, I'm weird.} Have any of y'all tried this lipstick? What did you think?

What I'm Giving Up for Lent

No, I'm not Catholic as the title of this post may suggest. I'm Baptist and have been all my life. I don't go to church for Ash Wednesday and have a cross of ashes drawn on my forehead, I don't do confessional or anything like that. But every Lenten Season, I'm inspired to give up something for Lent. Why? Because I like the idea of giving up something that I enjoy as a daily reminder during that six-week timeframe to think about the sacrifice of Jesus' death on the cross - but most importantly, his resurrection.

So, what am I giving up this year?

Wine. Vino. Yup.

If you know me, you know this is seriously super hard; I love me some wine. But, every time I don't drink it - and drink a glass of water instead {booooorrrringgggg}, I will constantly be reminded why I am doing what I'm doing.

And honestly? It's almost like an internal challenge to myself to see if I can really do it. Help keep me accountable!

So, here's to 40 days without wine. As the Little Engine That Could said, "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can..."

Favorite Boy Outfits for Spring

Contrary to popular belief, I think boy clothes are absolutely precious and dressing boys is so much fun! They look like little men. I like dressing Walker like that - a little man.

Since Old Man Winter has decided to rear his ugly head again, I can only dream about spring clothes at this point. But here are my favorite little boy outfits for spring, courtesy of Carter's and Old Navy - two of my very favorite places to shop for Walker! Their quality is good, the stuff is precious, and Walker can act like a boy in it {read: get dirty} with me knowing I didn't spend a fortune on it and that it's irreplaceable.

*This is not a sponsored post, but if Carter's and/or Old Navy want to send us anything to try out, I'm game! Ha! ;)

I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day! Brandon and I are fighting nasty colds {I'm pretty sure we have sinus infections}, so we did lots of laying low and enjoyed being at home.   I think I've also eaten my weight in chocolate this weekend. Diet, here I come!

Walker had zero interest in taking pictures with my in his cute little Valentine's Day shirt for school. So this is what we got:

...and then I captured this gorgeous gem in the car on the way to school. #nofilter

This was my sweet gift from Walker from school. I can't wait to always display this at Valentine's Day every year!

After work, Walker and I went to surprise Brandon by picking him up at the airport after his business trip! DFW Airport is right on our way home from my office, so it was a no-brainer. Brandon was so excited to see us, and we were excited to have him home after a week away!

Once we got home, crazy hair and Brandon enjoyed some great time outside together. He was so happy his Daddy was home!

I woke up to breakfast and coffee in bed, which was a great surprise! Also a great surprise? Walker sleeping from 7 p.m. - 7:40 a.m.! I'll take it! Brandon and I exchanged cards while Walker slept in, and then we spent our morning running to Target, Kroger and then had lunch at Chick-fil-A together before coming home to just hang out and enjoy our last bits of great, spring-like weather for a while.

Brandon made us a great Valentine's Day supper: steaks, lobster tails, scallops, mashed sweet potatoes and asparagus...and of course, a glass of wine. It was amazing!

We made chocolate-dipped strawberries together earlier in the day, and enjoyed them - along with a box of chocolates Brandon brought home and a glass of wine - while watching the thriller, "All Good Things."

Brandon and I felt like poop all. day. long. When Walker laid down for naps, we did, too. We alternated between Claritin D, Mucinex, Afrin and saline spray, and NyQuil last night. Pray we get over this quickly - nothing is worse than being sick with kids!

Anyway, speaking of Walker's naps, his new thing is sleeping upright {leaning on his crib} after he wakes up, but hasn't decided he's ready to get up for good. It cracks us up! He apparently has started doing this at school, too.

Also, I decided yesterday that having a sinus infection was the perfect excuse to finish this box of chocolates, right? {Don't worry, I only had about three after this picture was taken!}

Brandon picked us up Anamia's for supper, and we stayed up entirely too late watching "Saturday Night Live"'s 40th Anniversary celebration. We loveeeeeeeeeeed it! Did y'all watch?

Hope you have a great week!

Friday, February 13, 2015

Well hallelujah, Friday is here! Let's have a Valentine's edition of this post, shall we?

Are y'all doing anything special this weekend? Brandon and I are doing what we always do: making dinner at home, drinking some wine and watching a cheesy romantic comedy. I think I'm going to have him grill steak and scallops and I might make a cherry cream pie, too.

Also? I couldn't resist this, even though I love me some Brian!

Brandon and I don't do Valentines for each other, but we do do them for Walker - just small stuff! Last year, he was just a tiny two-week-old nugget, so I feel like it's way more fun {and less exhausting} this year.

We got him a shirt, a straw sippy and a board book - all from Target

My favorite movies for Valentine's Day?

Since my closet is practically all black - seriously, I need an intervention - I struggled with what to wear today! But, in my dream world, I would wear something cute like this on V-Day:

And then came home and immediately get comfy in these!

And because it's Valentine's Day and I love him to pieces, here's a quick video of my sweet Valentine Walker!

Thoughts for Thursday: My Favorite Moisturizers

I had a long day Monday. A long one. Once Walker was down for the night, I just wanted a hot shower to try to wash my day off {literally} and help settle me down for bed.

When I got out, I went to put on my normal lotion, but caught a glimpse of an oldie-but-goodie moisturizer I had tucked away in my cabinet. I hadn't used it in a while, but thought that Monday night would be the perfect excuse to use it. After all, I had a crappy day, so "why not?!" was the name of the game for me.

And that got me thinking - especially looking at my stockpile of beauty products under the sink - I love lotion! So I thought I'd share some of my favorites with you.

one // two

three // four // five

Origins A Perfect World Face Moisturizer: I have major combination skin, so this is what I use on a daily basis. It helps moisturize in areas where I need it, but it's also not too oily for my T-Zone. A definite must if you have combination skin like me.

Kiehl's Blue Herbal Face Moisturizer: I use this when I'm having a major acne moment. You know, when my monthly visitor rolls around or if I'm super stressed. It has a mattifying aspect to it, so I can wear it under make-up and not feel too greasy.

Raw Shea Butter Baby: This is the "special" lotion I was referring to above. It is what the label says it is: raw shea butter. When you take off the lid, it looks like a tub of wax, but you have to rub it with your fingers for just a minute to warm it up, and then use two hands to apply to your body. Obviously this isn't a lotion to use during the day because you are a grease ball, but it works wonders for me - especially on my elbows, knees, hands and feet, and especially in the winter when my skin is a dry train wreck. Plus, it smells wonderful!

Nivea Smooth Sensation Body Lotion: I use this lotion every. single. day. all over my body, and I have for years. It's a perfect year-round lotion: it doesn't leave me too greasy in the summer, yet it moisturizes well in the winter. I always use it the second I get out of the shower.

Becker Vineyards Lavender Therapy Cream: I purchased this on our anniversary trip to Fredricksburg, Texas, in the fall. I absolutely love the way this smells, and try to reserve it for special occasions when I'm absolutely exhausted and need the lavender to lull me to sleep, or when my hands are really dry. It's the perfect reminder of our great vacation, and it works wonders in the moisturizing department.

Bliss Foot Patrol: Since I'm always on the go {and on my feet} for my job, I love this lotion when my feet are achy. The peppermint in it gives a nice tingle, and it's very soothing. I especially like to use this when I do an at-home pedicure, right after I slough off the dead skin on my feet {ew, I know} - I apply this immediately after.

So what about you? Do you have any favorites?
