Weekending

Happy Monday! I'm linking up with Biana and Meghan today.

We had such a great weekend! I'm so sad it's over! We spent some great family time together before the craziness of October starts. It was just what we needed after a really long, stressful workweek.

-FRIDAY-
We got some great news on Brandon's job front that has me really excited for the future! We celebrated over some homemade tamales and homemade salsa from a lady at his work, and Brandon made me my favorite skinny margarita. We caught up on some shows from the week and watched "Neighbors," which was actually pretty hilarious.

-SATURDAY-
Walker slept in until 7 a.m.! {Anyone who says BabyWise is a joke, I have to tell you, it's really nice having a baby who sleeps from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. I hated it at first, but we are definitely seeing the benefits now and are loving them!}

After a cup of coffee, we played around in our bed. Oliver and Walker are best buddies, obviously!

While Walker took his morning cat nap {no pun intended}, Brandon and I did a "shake down" of the house and got everything picked up and cleaned up. Then, we decided to make a trip to Trader Joe's

Clearly Walker was excited for his first trip to food heaven!

Since we were in the area, we decided to have lunch at Houston's. I hadn't eaten there since probably high school, and it definitely wasn't the Houston's I remember! I had an excellent crab cake salad with champagne vinaigrette {seriously, I know I will crave that thing in the coming days} and Brandon had "the best French Dip he's ever had." And of course we had to get the always-yummy spinach dip!

On our way home, we stopped to get our wedding rings cleaned. I didn't realize how disgusting mine was until they brought it back out to me!

I made a pit stop to our local grocery store for a few things I couldn't get at Trader Joe's, and then we came home and I took a good little nap with Walker before going to get my hair trimmed.

When I got home from my hair appointment, I noticed Brandon and Walker were outside. I peeked out there, and Brandon had Walker in this swing! Walker's school told me he loves this swing and actually cries every time they have to take him out and go back inside. I mentioned it to Brandon, who immediately ordered it {to my surprise}. And it's true; Walker does love that thing and we have spent many an hour in that thing since Saturday evening!

After Walker went to bed, Brandon and I made one of our favorite meals: salmon, sautéed squash and wild rice. We just follow The Pioneer Woman's salmon recipe and I finish it off with the juice of half a lemon and a sprinkle of dill {or fresh dill, if you have it on hand}.

Brandon made some chocolate chip cookies and we watched our Baylor Bears defeat Iowa State before calling it a night a few minutes into the third quarter. #yepweareold

-SUNDAY-
We went to church, where Walker was moved up to the "crawlers" nursery! He wasn't quite sure what to do at first and some tears set in, poor thing. Once we got settled in the sanctuary, Brandon went back in to peek in on him and he was absolutely fine. That made me feel so much better!

We came home and both were hit with the organizing bug! Is fall cleaning a thing like spring cleaning? Anyway, we both cleaned out our closet and got rid of a ton of stuff - from clothes to shoes to jewelry and purses for me. We put some stuff in the attic, did some laundry and then I laid down with Walker for a short nap.

After some swinging and playing, Walker was acting sleepy, so I laid him down to see if he really was tired. I guess he was, because we had to wake him up after an hour and a half! During his nap, I was able to clean the bathrooms, organize the medicine cabinet, fold a load of laundry and make a homemade lasagna to bake tonight for supper!

We had an easy supper {yep, I cooked two meals last night...whew!}; I took a long, hot bath; and we watched the Cowboys game.

I hope y'all had a great weekend, too, and have a wonderful week!!!

High Five for Friday + Oh Hey, Friday!

Some weeks you just want to shout, "HALLELUJAH, IT'S FRIDAY!" This is definitely one of them. I'm linking up with The Farmer's Wife and September Farm for "Oh Hey, Friday!" and Lauren Elizabeth for "High Five for Friday."

-ONE-
I am getting my hair trimmed tomorrow, and I couldn't be happier about it. I know that's such a menial thing, but when you live in Texas and your hair is too long (and heavy) to tease up top, that's a problem! As they say, "The higher the hair, the closer to God!"

-TWO-
Is anyone else as ridiculously excited as I am that fall TV is back!? Of course, I'm so beat by the end of the day that I fall asleep midway through the shows {#workingmomprobs}, so I have lots to catch up on this weekend! Hello, "Modern Family," "Grey's Anatomy" "How to Get Away with Murder" and "Parenthood!" I'm super sad that this is the last season of "Parenthood," though. It's seriously one of my favorite shows!

Also, I know I need to be watching "Scandal." That's on the top of my to-do list when I have some time. {Time? What is that?} PPS: Did you know The Limited has a "Scandal" line? I thought that was pretty cool until I looked at the prices. "Help me, I'm poor!

-THREE-
We have something on our calendars for every. single. weekend. in October, so we are relishing in the quiet, no hustle-and-bustle that we have this weekend. We had plans to go to the pumpkin patch, but they don't open until next weekend {darn the luck!}. The State Fair of Texas opens today - and I have never, ever been - so we were talking about fitting that in somewhere, too. We shall see!

-FOUR-
Of course I had to share my favorite outtake from Walker's 8-month recap post on Wednesday. I love this little boy to pieces!

-FIVE-
My mom made my team shirts to wear on Fridays with our district's acronym on them. We are loving the casual-er Friday's 'round these parts!

Yes, Liz and I wore white after Labor Day and yes, I'm having a horrid hair day today. What then?

I hope y'all have an excellent weekend!

Walker is EIGHT Months Old!

Walker, you are eight months old!

-FEEDING-
You are still taking four 6 oz. bottles of Similac Sensitive a day at the same times as last month, but we will be moving you to three bottles with 8 oz. in them pretty soon. You are still a great eater when it comes to food, and I'm really enjoying experimenting with what you will try. So far, you eat: quinoa, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, peas, green beans, avocado, peaches, pears, apples, bananas, mangoes and yogurt. I'm still going strong making your food, and I'm actually really enjoying it!

Your reflux magically stopped this month, so no more baby Zantac! We are so happy for you because we know that hurt your poor little esophagus.

-SLEEPING-
You are still an excellent sleeper! You sleep from 7-7:30 p.m. until 6-6:30 a.m. without waking up. You have given us a few stretches to 7:30 a.m., which was heavenly.

You still aren't that into napping, unless it's with me in my bed {which I secretly love}. You will give us about 30-45 minutes in your crib, but that seems to be all you need to keep on keeping on! You have moved yourself to two naps per day and one little 20-minute snooze on the way home from school {sometimes}.

-STATISTICS-
You don't have a well check until 9 months, but I weighed you myself and you're just over 22 pounds! You're a chunk!

-DEVELOPMENT/MILESTONES/FIRSTS-
You started crawling just over a week shy of your 8-month birthday! I couldn't believe it when I saw it, but you're officially mobile. You can do a full 360* on your belly to get where you want to go, too. It's crazy! You say "mama," "dada," "baba" and "buh-bye," but also make a ton more little noises. You can also give high-fives!

You are finally {finally} cutting your first tooth, and you also had your first round of nightmares {poor thing}. You are really interacting with our cat, Oliver, a ton more and you two are the best of buddies. You try to crawl out of the bathtub when we're bathing you, but when we sit you back down, insist on "chewing" on the side of the tub. Whatever floats your boat! :)

Your separation anxiety is pretty rough, but I've read on a lot of forums that it's very common at this age. You are a big mimicker and if we cough, you will fake cough back. It's really cute!

Your firsts for this month included: crawling, retiring the swing, saying your first words, cutting your first tooth, meeting some of your aunts/uncles/cousins, sitting in a high chair at a restaurant and visiting the George W. Bush Museum.

-CLOTHES-
You are in straight nine-month clothes across the board and size 3 shoes.

-BEHAVIOR/DEMEANOR-
You are definitely a mama's boy and I love it! You are so, so sweet and love to laugh and give kisses. When you give kisses, you say "Awwww." It's so precious!

You love: bath time {or any water}, being tossed up in the air by your Dad, talking to yourself in the mirror, drinking from my water cup, looking out the window, playing outside in the grass, pulling Oliver's tail, any electronic with a bright screen {our iPhones, iPad and remote control are your favorites}, your V-Tech Sit-to-Stand Learning Walker, your bouncer and sleeping on your tummy.

You aren't a fan of: having your face or nose wiped, when we take anything away from you, getting out of the tub, and being in the car seat when you're tired.

-NICKNAMES-
Walky, Walk, Buddy, Boo Boo, Walker Boo, Little Man

Walker, how is it that you're already 8 months old?! Time has truly flown by and your Dad and I can't believe it. You are looking and acting like more of a little boy than a baby.

You are entering such a fun stage and I love seeing what you will discover and experience next. Crawling has been an adventure for us, and it's one that I'm truly enjoying right along with you.

You are a sweet, sweet boy. I love that you give us kisses and hugs and love to show affection. Everyone comments what a good baby you are, and I have to agree.

We pray for you daily and want you to know how loved you are and how thankful we are for you. As I always say, you are a joy and a delight. We love you so much.

Love,
Mommy and Daddy

Fall Bucket List

It's no secret that I love fall and am a sucker for all things pumpkin flavored or scented. Pumpkin hand soap for the kitchen? Sure. Pumpkin candles? Why not? It's an obsession.

Now that we have Walker, I am on a mission to ensure he has wonderful holiday and seasonal memories, just like I did growing up. No more cutting corners!

So I decided to make a Fall Bucket List to ensure those memories get made for him, even though he's tiny and won't remember them just yet...we will have pictures and he will know his mommy and daddy made every effort to ensure he had a great time.

So without any further aideu, my Fall Bucket List:

Do share what's on your must-do list for this fall!

Weekending

Happy Monday! Linking up with Biana and Meghan today.

-FRIDAY-
I left work before 2 p.m., ran some errands and then went to pick Walker up from school. It had been a really long week - Brandon had been gone since Sunday on business - and this mama was ready for a nap! Walker and I came home, played a little and took a quick Friday afternoon nap; it was heavenly!

Brandon's flight got in {hall-e-luj-ah}, we did some laundry, ordered a pizza and had a glass of wine before catching up on our shows from the week and hitting the hay.

-SATURDAY-
We woke up, played and cleaned a bit, and then Walker and I took a nap together while Brandon went to the gym. I cleaned a bit, and then made a ton of food for Walker. I think we're set for a while!

I am so proud of Walker: he eats peas, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, quinoa, avocado, carrots, green beans, pears, apples, mangoes, peaches, pumpkin, bananas and yogurt! I am still going strong making all of his food, which Brandon and I are really proud of. It's totally a personal choice, but it's a cost-effective, healthy one that works for our budget!

Later, my in-law's and brother- and sister-in-law came over with our niece and nephew! It was fun getting the three cousins together.

Walker looks like he is giving Ellie Kate a right hook right here!

After they left, I made homemade meatloaf, mashed potatoes and peas, and we watched college football {Yay, Mississippi State - my father-in-law went there, so I guess we can cheer for them! ;) }

-SUNDAY-
We went to the early service at church, and I will say it was the best morning of worship I have experienced in a while. Our pastor, who has been on sabbatical for 12 weeks, was back today and man, have we missed him. It was wonderful.

After we came home and had leftovers, Walker and I took a nap together. Then, Brandon told me to go get a pedicure. I made a little pit stop to Gap to get Walker a few things that were on sale for 30 percent off the entire purchase {shhh!}, and then came home to get ready for the week.

This sweet lil' blue eyes - who is looking more and more like my grandfather every day - even did something big this weekend: he started crawling, just over a week shy of his 8-month birthday! I was so excited for him! I can't believe our sweet little man has already hit the crawling stage; mama isn't ready for that just yet! {Waaaaah!}

I hope y'all have a wonderful week!

New Look!

Well, I'm sure y'all are noticing quite the change 'round this little ol' blog of mine! My friend Savannah designed it for me, and to say I'm obsessed would be quite the understatement.

I made a Pinterest board of inspiration pieces and she truly made my vision a reality.

After a crazy week, this was the best note to end Friday on. So, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Thank you, Savannah! You are the best!

Bullet Point Blog Post

Y'all, this week has been crazy. Cuh-razy. It's Thursday and I've already had a little breakdown at work and am super exhausted, plus I'm 99% sure I'm getting sick, too. So there's that!

But anywho, a bullet point blog post for y'all today, because, well...because. ;)

  • I am becoming a two-cups-of-coffee-every-morning girl. I didn't even drink coffee {other than Frappuccinos or something similar} when I moved to Dallas six years ago, but now I'm drinking two cups a day. So bad, yet so good.
  • Walker is thisclose to crawling, and I'm seriously not ready for that yet! Waaa!
  • I am officially obsessed with this mask from Origins. Cannot. Get. Enough.
  • Walker has learned to say "bye bye," and I'm kind of obsessed. He sounds like he's making a popping noise with his lips when he does it, which I'm also obsessed with.
  • My friend Liz has on a red pencil skirt and a leopard cardigan today, and she looks adorable! I need to get a red pencil skirt STAT.
  • Remember how I said it felt like fall in Dallas late last week and earlier this week? Yeah? Well that's GONE now. Ugh! It's so humid outside and I'm dying for fall to come back into our lives. Walker wore shorts to school today. Shorts!
  • If you're in the mood for a new pair of jeans, Gap is having $25 off one pair and $50 off two today! I'm personally obsessed with their 1969 Always Skinny jeans. I have them in denim, white and now black. They're the best jeans I've ever owned!
  • My split ends are OUT. OF. CONTROL! I can't wait to get a haircut next weekend.
  • Speaking of weekend, I'm getting a much-needed mani/pedi and sadly, I'm looking forward to it like nobody's business.
  • My parents took us to Sanibel Island, Florida when I was a senior in college. I've had a major hankering to go back there with my little family of three, so I've been doing extensive research on it! I'm thinking next summer, so we shall see! I can't wait for Walker to experience the beach.
  • PSL's are back at Starbucks, and I caved and got one yesterday. Why are they so dang good?!
  • Have y'all heard of Shrimp and Grits Kids? Holy moly. I'm a true Southerner and this smocking and monogramming has me dying over here. So cute!
  • I bought my mom the CUTEST top and necklace yesterday from Banana Republic for her birthday and now all I want to do is go back and get them for myself. Would it be weird if my mom and I matched? Ha!

I'm sure this post is boring y'all to death. So for that I'm sorry.

Hope y'all have a great rest of your day! The weekend is almost here!!!

Weekending

We had such a lovely weekend! Fall finally arrived in Texas {woo hoo, 75* temperatures for the highs!}. I was really sad to see it go, but I'm leaving it behind feeling refreshed and relaxed, which is what weekends are for, right?

Linking up with Biana and Meghan today.

-FRIDAY-
My boss noticed how hard we worked last week and how we busted our rears all. week. long. last week, so she told us we could leave early. It was so nice! I picked up Walker early, we came home and took a nap together. It was such a great way to kick off the weekend!

My brother-in-law's girlfriend came over to hang out with us since my brother-in-law was dove hunting. We had so much fun! Brandon made us a homemade pizza for Friday Pizza Night; we had a few drinks; and just enjoyed catching up! We love her.

-SATURDAY-
We firmly believe Walker is going through a growth spurt and is teething, so he was fighting sleep Friday night and Saturday morning. We were all up really early, boo. But, we all took a 1.5-hour family nap Saturday morning, which was amazing!

I spent the day cleaning, going to the grocery store, getting gas in my car, etc. It was a typical chore day! Walker and I took another 1.5-hour nap together Saturday afternoon. Loving that this sweet boy likes naps like his mama, because his daddy is not a napper!

Once Walker was in bed for the night, Brandon and I had dinner {grilled chicken, couscous and sautéed spinach, if you're wondering} and then sat out on the patio together. Like I said, fall finally graced us with its presence, and the weather was absolutely gorgeous! Brandon lit the chiminea and poured us a glass of wine, and we just enjoyed talking to each other and enjoying the cool, refreshing air.

-SUNDAY-
Walker slept from 7 p.m.-7:30 a.m.! Ahhhhhh-mazing!!! {I'm telling you, growth spurt. Usually he's up and at 'em at 6 a.m. But, I'm thankful for the extra 1.5 hours of sleep!}

We went to church, where we finished our study of Revelation. It was such a good study and has me itching for more. However, our pastor is coming back from his three months of sabbatical, and we are so excited to have him back!

Walker wore his first pair of loafers to church this morning, so of course I had to take a picture. That, and I was finally able to wear something other than a sun dress to church, so that had to be documented, as well. ;)

This was the best picture I could get of his precious loafers: in the car seat as we're literally walking out the door. He is a wiggle worm!

We came home from church, had leftovers and then Walker and I took another nap! {Four! Four naps! From my non-napper, this was amazing. I love cuddling up to and sleeping next to this precious baby. I know there will be a time when he will look at me with disgust, so I relish in these times with him.}

An hour and a half later, we watched the Cowboys game with Brandon and were lazy bums.

I took Walker on a little walk around the neighborhood last night to enjoy the cool air, and I think everyone had the same idea. It felt like Small Town USA: people were out exercising; families were walking with kids, followed toddlers on tricycles; pushed babies in strollers; and walked dogs; and everyone was so happy, waving "hello" to each other and stopping for little conversations. There's just something about fall after a long, hot, sweltering Texas summer. Everyone gets a renewed sense of energy and excitement knowing fall is in the air and cool, crisp air is finally here. If there's one thing I love about living in Texas is not only fall here, but the friendliness.

I hope y'all have a wonderful week!

Oh Hey, Friday! + High Five for Friday

Hey y'all! Happy Friday! I'm linking up with The Farmer's WifeSeptember Farm and Lauren Elizabeth today.

-ONE-
My friend Savannah and I are working on a facelift for this little ol' blog, and I'm excited! I can't wait to show y'all what she does. I'm currently working on a Pinterest inspiration board; I look up and an hour has gone by. Yikes!

-TWO-
Nothing better than a baby's laughter, amIright?! Brandon and I get tickled every time we watch this video.

-THREE-
Other than Baylor playing tonight {which is really weird}, we have no plans this weekend! It's supposed to finally feel like fall in Texas this weekend, so I'm hoping we can plan a ton of outside time to enjoy the weather.

-FOUR-
Have y'all heard of the Wunderlist app? My friends Liz and Susana introduced me to it, and I don't know if I'll ever go without using it.

Wunderlist allows users to manage tasks from their iPhone or iPad via different lists that can be shared with others, if desired.

I'm still very much a paper list gal for the grocery store, but this helps when I think of random things we need during the day. I can just add as I think about it and then transfer to my paper list when I make it on Friday evenings. The best part is, Brandon can add things, too, and we can share the list! So, if he remembers he needs deodorant, he can add it to the list. But then if he goes to the store the next day, he can get his deodorant, but then look at the list and see that I need hairspray and get that, too.

It has really kept us organized!

-FIVE-
Loft is having 40% off of everything right now, which is so dangerous for me! I'm in love with their collarless utility blouses, so this little guy is coming home with me today. Oops!

I hope y'all have a great weekend!

About Me

I saw this on Meghan's blog and thought I would borrow the idea for today's post! Here's a little introduction for y'all about me.

Name/Age/Location
My name is Brittany and I'm 27 years old. I live in a suburb of Dallas, Texas. I was born and raised in Southeast Texas, went to college in Central Texas {where I met my now-husband} and moved to North Texas following graduation.

Family
I married my husband, Brandon, on Oct. 9, 2010. We had our first child, Walker, on Jan. 29 of this year. I have two brothers and a sister {I'm the oldest}, and Brandon is the middle of three boys. My parents still live in my hometown, and Brandon's parents live about 15 minutes away from us.

Work
I am a Communications Coordinator for a local school district. I have been in this job for about 1.5 years. Prior to that, I did public relations for American Airlines via the PR firm Weber Shandwick. In my current job, I get all of the school holidays off {Spring Break, Thanksgiving Break, Christmas Break, etc.}, which is really nice. It's a very family-friendly job! Once we have our next baby, the plan is for me to stay home, but we shall see when the time comes.

Through this job, I have met two of my very good friends, Liz and Susana. I am so blessed to have great friends at work!

Hobbies
I love cooking {and eating}, shopping, having wine with friends, going for walks, working on our house, napping {ha!}, spending time with my sweet little family and blogging, of course. I also love watching reality TV and college football.

Favorite Food
I truly don't know how I could ever pick just one thing. I love, love food and eating! Ha!

I love a good steak; homemade macaroni and cheese; lobster; spaghetti; homemade custard; cherry cream pie; bread {and any carb, really...}; ballpark hot dogs; and I could go on and on, but I'll refrain.

Favorite Color
My husband will tell you that my favorite color is black. I hardly have any other colors in my closet.

Standard Coffee Order
We typically drink coffee at home {Donut House K-cups with more-than-enough hazelnut coffee creamer}, but if I go to Starbucks, I'll get a Venti Iced Soy Chai Tea Latte with light ice. If I'm feeling like a Fat Pat, I'll get a Grande Caramel Frappuccino. Of course, I'm all about the Pumpkin Spice Latte and Peppermint Mocha, too. #basicwhitegirl

Standard Bar Order
White or red wine; a very dirty vodka martini with blue cheese-stuffed olives; and a margarita if I'm at a Tex-Mex restaurant.

Places I Shop
Loft, Banana Republic, Gap, TJ Maxx, Target...I don't discriminate if It's cute!

Bedtime and Wake-up Time
This has changed dramatically since Walker was born! I try to be asleep by 9:30 p.m. at the latest, because I have to get up at 5 a.m. {during the weeks}. When Brandon travels, I get up at 4:30 a.m. since I'm doing everything by myself.

Beauty Products I Can't Live Without

What I Blog About
I blog mostly about our day-to-day lives and Walker. But I also blog about recent recipe favorites, products I've enjoyed and other randomness!

First Blog I Read
Blue Eyed Bride by Erin Carroll

How Did I Start Blogging
I had just moved to Dallas and was bored at my first job one day, so I started my first {now defunct} blog, "Small Town Southern Girl." I really enjoyed - and still do - the creative outlet.

Why I Blog
Like I said, I love the creative outlet. But I also love the friendships I've created and the community blogging brings. It's a great way for me to remember what we did, how I felt about things and an even better way to document everything with Walker, especially because I'm sleep-deprived half the time!
