Thoughts for Thursday | Getting Ready for Christmas

It's Thursday! That means only one more day until Friday...hallelujah!

I'm linking up with Annie and Natalie for "Thoughts for Thursday" today...all about getting ready for Christmas!

+ Now that it is finally freezing chilly outside - cold enough for a fire, coat and scarves - I'm in full-on Christmas mode. Yes, I know, we still have Thanksgiving, but now that I have a baby, I feel like I want to DO ALL THE CHRISTMAS THINGS this year.

Hello, cozy fire!

+ On our agenda of Christmas-y things to do? See Santa, of course! My boss told us about this photography studio near our office that takes reservations to meet Santa - so, no waiting in a long-as-crap line at a mall to meet Santa. You make a reservation, pre-pay and your kid{s} get to meet the same, real-looking Santa every year! They ask you their name{s} up front, and Santa personalizes the session...and you get as many photos as you want! Done and done from here on out!

+ Walker is completely done for Christmas, and since we don't wrap Santa gifts, I feel a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. Do any of y'all wrap Santa gifts? We never did growing up - Santa gifts were always laid out on the couches for all of us in the same spot every year. I'm looking forward to seeing Walker with his new toys, though I'm sure the boxes will be more fun anyway. Ha!

+ Each year, December has honestly been a beatdown with party after party after holiday lunch after company dinner. I'm really trying to scale back this year and really only attend the most important things. Instead of a{nother} company party, we're planning to take Walker to the Gaylord Texan's Ice Exhibit; to see Santa {as mentioned above} and carry on a few of the Christmas traditions Brandon and I had growing up.

+ Speaking of traditions, those are: making my Grammy's Christmas candy, making Brandon's grandmother's tea cakes, counting down on the Advent Calendar, reading the Christmas story from the book of Luke on Christmas Eve, and watching as many Christmas movies as humanly possible - including "A Christmas Story" on repeat Christmas Eve!

+ However, I do want to start some of our own Christmas traditions! I love the idea of opening a new pair of Christmas jammies on Christmas Eve to sleep in, as well as throwing out reindeer food for Rudolph and Company! ;) One thing that Brandon and I started when we got married was getting hot chocolate from Starbucks and driving around to look at Christmas lights. I can't wait to do that with Walker this year! Does anyone have any traditions that you think would be fun for us to implement?

+ I'm on the hunt for an Advent Calendar, but haven't found any I like. Anyone know where I can find a cute one for Walker? I'm still on the fence about this one from Target.

+ Wrapping is in full force at our house, and I'm itching to put up the Christmas tree. However, Brandon won't let me until after Thanksgiving! But, in my defense...I need a place to put these wrapped gifts!

+ ABC's "25 Days of Christmas" can't come soon enough, though I'm sure my husband will disagree. He gets a little tired of a new Christmas movie every night, though he will watch "Home Alone" every single time it comes on.

Are y'all ready for Christmas? Or are you like {the old me} and don't even give it a thought until after Thanksgiving? Which - speaking of - I will be off for a whole 11 days in exactly ONE WEEK from today! I love working in the school system. ;)

Have a great Thursday!

  1. I'd check Etsy for cute advent calendars! I bet they have some cute ones!

  2. I can't wait to have a fire place! Home Alone is one of my favorite movies of all time! can't wait to overdose on it!!!

  3. I wish I had a fireplace! Sounds like you have some great traditions and they'll be so much fun this year with Walker! I am so ready to decorate and might put up our decorations before Thanksgiving this year! 11 days off sounds fantastic too - so jealous!
