Welcome, Walker!

We are so pleased to welcome our son, Walker McKay Whitacre, born Jan. 29 at 12:03 a.m. He was 7 lbs. and 21.5 in. long.

After a long labor, our sweet boy graced us with his presence three minutes after his scheduled birthday...just going ahead and showing us his little personality! In fact, my Dad had purchased the Jan. 28 editions of The Dallas Morning News, The Wall Street Journal and USA Today so we could have them with his birthday on it. And what do you know, three minutes after Jan. 28, he was born!

We are absolutely in love with our sweet boy, and I didn't think I'd be able to love him as much as I do. And, my love for Brandon has only grown seeing him being a daddy to Walker. It's precious seeing my husband and son together.

It's been a little touch-and-go these last six days, but we're slowly making it and learning. I'm so thankful for my mom, dad and aunt, who have done so much to help us with our boy. My parents left Saturday and I cried for about an hour. It was the saddest thing ever. My mother-in-law is here today, but it's just not the same as your own mama...you know? I'm thankful for her help, however.

Walker is a sweet, sweet boy and is a big mix of both Brandon and me: he has my eyes, ears and face shape, and Brandon's nose, lips, chin and forehead. I keep looking at him and saying, "We made you." It's surreal. He isn't that keen on sleeping more than two hours a night without feeding, but we're getting there.

Thank you for all of your sweet words about Walker! We are so excited he's here and couldn't love him more.

  1. Yay! I've kept an eye out for this post. Hope everything is going well, I know life with a newborn is crazy and sleep deprived but every day it gets more fun, I promise!

  2. Give yourself grace! The first seven weeks with the first baby are chaotic! :)
