Weekend: Baylor Edition

"That good ol' Baylor Line, that good ol' Baylor Line. We'll march forever down the years, as long as stars shall shine. We'll fling our green and gold afar to light the ways of time. And guide us as we onward go, that good ol' Baylor Line."

It's no secret that Brandon and I have so much pride in our alma mater, Baylor University. Baylor's biggest tradition is its annual Homecoming Weekend, celebrated since 1909. The weekend is full of tradition, including the Friday night bonfire, Pigskin Revue, the early-morning parade on Saturday, and of course, the football game! The big theme of the weekend is always: "[Graduates] return to campus to renew former associations and friendships, and catch the Baylor spirit again."

As a little girl, I grew up going to Homecoming {back when Baylor wasn't good at football at all!} and I honestly believe that my parents taking me back each year contributed to my strong desire to go to Baylor for college. They both graduated from there, and it was always special for me to hear their memories and imagine mine there one day.

Anyway, we drove down to Waco on Saturday morning and were lucky enough to get two tickets to Pigskin, at the request of my husband (!!!).

Pigskin is a Broadway-type show that showcases the top eight acts from All-University Sing the spring before. All but one acts is a sorority or fraternity group {sometimes they join together for an act} that performs a musical act for seven minutes each. Each act has a theme and the songs reflect that theme. They are judged at Sing in the spring, and then the top acts perform for alumni in the fall at Pigskin. Each group has their own "move," which garner huge cheers from the audience when they do it. It's seriously my favorite thing!

{Brandon was in this one! You can see their "move" around the 6:41 mark.}

Brandon's fraternity {Kappa Sigma} and my sorority {Zeta Tau Alpha} were featured in Pigskin, so it was even more fun for us to see them perform!

After Pigskin, we met up with my family and some of their friends for a tailgate before the game.

It was so much fun getting to spend time with my family!!!

This was Baylor's very last Homecoming at Floyd Casey Stadium, where the Bears have played since 1950. So, it was only appropriate that we completely obliterate Iowa State for that last Homecoming game there, 71-7! Go Bears!

We sat with my parents and had the best time. The weather was absolutely perfect!

When we took this picture, I looked at my mom and we both realized this was our first picture with all of our family together since Brandon and my wedding in 2010! Craziness!

After the game, we drove back to Dallas and didn't get home until after 11 p.m., thanks in no part to the horrible traffic right outside of downtown. We were definitely struggling!

Since we got in so late, we slept in this morning. I woke up to kolaches and donuts Brandon went out to get.

It was such a fun weekend! And while I'm sad it's over, I can't wait to have our sweet little baby boy at Homecoming next year!

  1. Glad y'all had so much fun! I loved SMU Homecoming last year (when it was my five-year reunion) and I've heard so many great things about Baylor Sing! At SMU, it's called Sing Song and held in the spring, but I don't think the production value is up to Baylor's example, haha.
