Brain Dump

I'm here, I promise!

We've been going 90 to nothing lately, so I haven't had much time to breathe, much less write a full blog post with pictures. :)

So, you're getting a brain dump today:

1. It has gotten hot in Texas in the past week. We went from upper-80's and refreshing to the gates of hell. It was supposed to top out at 100* today, but they brought it back down to a cool 97*. How thoughtful of Mr. Weatherman!

2. We hired a lady to come clean our house once a month, and it was probably the highlight of my week. (I know, I know, #epicwhitepeopleproblems.) It is just nice to know my house is going to get a full, deep clean once a month. Hello, clean baseboards; blinds; cabinets; doors and windows!

3. Brandon came home with a Nest last night, and I must say, I am pretty obsessed. He purchased it at Best Buy {with a coupon} and came home and installed it by himself last night. I'm hoping this little guy does what it says it can do and reduces our electricity bills up to 20 percent!

4. June is such a busy month for us. Brandon's brother's birthday, my oldest younger brother's birthday, my sister's birthday, Father's Day and my parents' anniversary. Whew! I looked up and it's June 12. I keep telling us we have to slow down and enjoy summer a bit!

5. Speaking of enjoying summer, I had my first snow cone of the summer with one of my co-workers yesterday. We drove all over trying to find a place that was open, and we finally did after about 20 minutes! I got wedding cake with cream, and holy moly, y'all. It was worth the 20 minutes of driving around.

6. Also? I'm loving the whole "no work Fridays." Tomorrow is my first Friday off for the summer, and I am really looking forward to it!

7. I am not calling anyone out here, but it drives me absolutely crazy when women have babies and suddenly everything is a comparison to their life with a newborn. You say, "Oh! The yard guys have started to cut my lawn at 6:30 a.m.! It's so annoying!" They say, "Yeah! Try having those people come at 6:30 a.m. and add a crying, hungry newborn to the mix!" People, I get it. You have a child. I don't need comparisons between your life and mine.

8. I need a hair cut like nobody's business. My split ends are out of control.

9. I saw this thing the other day that said, "Know how you can tell which people do CrossFit and which ones don't? The ones who do CrossFit tell you they do CrossFit...all the time." I was cracking up at that! It's so true!

10. I have an unhealthy relationship with McAlister's. I could eat there every single day if my budget {and waistline} allowed me to do so. The chicken caesar wrap with a side of macaroni and cheese and a sweet tea? Don't mind if I do!

11. I also have an unhealthy relationship with Home Goods lately. Make me stop buying ALL THE THINGS!

12. In honor of Father's Day, I guess I will throw one picture at y'all:

Happy Father's Day, Daddy-o!

What We Ate This Week

Happy Friday! School is officially out for summer, and this was my last Friday to work until August. Woo hoo!

Here's what we had for supper this week, even though we jumped off the healthy eating bandwagon this week. {Back on it starting Saturday!}:

These were very easy and yummy...and anything with avocado is a win-win in my book.

This meal is a complete staple in our house. It definitely doesn't taste like it's only three ingredients!

My aunt is a fabulous cook, and her recipes never, ever disappoint. While I'm sure it would have tasted better out of her very own kitchen, it was still so yummy! This casserole reminds me of cozy, childhood comfort food.

I've professed my love for Jenny Steffens Hobick over and over again. Her recipes are so, so good and don't have an out of control list of ingredients. Brandon absolutely loves this pasta pie.

We also had my mom's roast* this week, which I was completely craving, even though it's almost summer. Oh well. It was good!

This week, we've enjoyed spending time in our backyard with the little buglet...

...and chowing down on Dunkin' Donuts {to celebrate National Donut Day!} with my amazing co-workers {and friends!}. I love me some Dunkin'!

Have a great weekend!

-1 rump roast, fat trimmed
-1 pkt. Lipton Onion Soup Mix
-1 can cream of mushroom soup
-Beef broth
-1 bag baby carrots
-5-6 baby red potatoes

1. Put rump roast in Crock Pot. Cover with Lipton Onion Soup Mix and cream of mushroom soup.
2. Slice baby red potatoes into quarters and place in Crock Pot, along with baby carrots.
3. Pour in a bit of beef broth to cover bottom of Crock Pot. Turn on low and let cook 8+ hours. Enjoy!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!

Here's what I'm loving this week:

I love Batiste's dry shampoo {I switch between this and Psssst!}, but since my hair is dark, it kind of leaves some white residue. It's nice to look like I'm not using dry shampoo for once!

I got this as a sample from Ulta yesterday, and overnight I have noticed a huge difference in my skin: it has a more even tone, is softer and my pores are visibly smaller. Perhaps that's why it's $120 for a bottle? Yeah, I'll be using the samples. Ha!

I just clicked "purchase" on Etsy for this vintage Texas map for our dining room. I am such a nerd and have a thing for maps {I seriously could stare at them all day} and know this will fit perfectly in our dining room.

Also? I have this weird thing where I don't like random artwork/photos in our house. I like photos that mean something to us {places we've traveled, photos of us and/or our families} and artwork that means something, too. So really, the only things you'll see on our walls are photos, mirrors, our diplomas and maps. Because I love them. #nerdalert

This is seriously my summer song. I love it! I'm normally not a Daft Punk fan at all, but the beat totally sucks me in. If you see a girl driving down the road pulling out #epicwhitegirl moves, then yeah, that's me. :)

Hope you're having a great week!

Hey y'all! Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Things have been so busy with end of the year wrap-up stuff with my schools, so I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut off! So...warning. Boring blog post ahead!

We had a nice, low-key weekend, which is exactly what we needed.

I came home and took a huge nap, and then we went to dinner at Pei Wei. We came home and both fell asleep on the couch watching Dateline. Our college selves would be so ashamed of us now.

We slept in, then went to brunch at this little bakery near our house, Outta the Oven. Clearly Brandon ate everything in sight: eggs, hashbrown casserole, bacon, toast and a pancake, and I had their blueberry French Toast. Yum!

We ran some errands, even picking up a gorgeous gardenia bush for our backyard. It smells amazing!

Brandon spent all afternoon in the yard, and I cleaned our house from top to bottom.

While I was going to the grocery store, I saw this car's license plate and died laughing. "I Rekun..." Well, I rekun that's the dumbest thing I've ever seen! Ha!

{Sorry if this is your car...}

We went to church, and then had lunch at Panera

I think our church bulletins are so gorgeous! I need to know who does our graphic designing and stat! :)

We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening lazing around and getting ready for the week. Thursday is our last day of school for students, so I'm hoping to be around a bit more often. :)

Happy week!
