Musicals, Baby Showers and Food, Oh My!

May is always a busy month {much like December}, and this weekend was no exception. It was full, but fun!

We relaxed on Friday night, ordered a pizza and I fell asleep on the couch around 10 p.m. I am a party animal, let me tell y'all.

On Saturday, we slept in {!!!} and started off our day with coffee and HGTV in bed. These days are few and far between, so we just soak them up.

Brandon helped me clean and do laundry all morning, and then I worked on these precious "Wishes for Baby" cards for today's baby shower {more details on the shower below}.

These were passed out as each guest signed in and are a cute little "game" {since I absolutely hate shower games...sorry} for Savannah and Todd to read later.

Later Saturday, we had dinner at Smoke before seeing "Wicked" with my mother- and father-in-law, along with Brandon's brother and his wife.

Smoke is a farm-to-table, fancy Texas-style restaurant in an up-and-coming neighborhood in south Dallas. The decor alone is worth going to the restaurant for.

I ordered a really good whiskey-berry lemonade and Brandon had a Pimm's Cup (ha!). We started with their lettuce and herb salad with smoke vinaigrette dressing, which we shared because it was HUGE. Brandon had the coffee-cured beef brisket (which came with homemade bread and butter pickles and mustard seed potato salad), and I had the strip steak (which came with German-style potatoes)...and we ordered a side of hominy casserole. Needless to say, we were stuffed and came home with leftovers!

And aside from the waiter who should be an undertaker with his strange demeanor, it was a great experience.

I saw "Wicked" in London when I studied abroad in 2007. {Best summer of my life!} It was just as amazing as I remembered it. And Brandon loved it, which was also a plus. The actress who played "Guh"-lenda was hilarious and completely resembled Kristin Chenoweth, if you ask me.

Today was the baby shower for my brother-in-law's girlfriend, Savannah. It was absolutely lovely, thanks to my Aunt Katherine

She recently started her business, Hurley House, which is a full-service company offering a myriad of baked goods, yummy treats and perfect details to make your next party, shower, dinner or event perfect.

We contacted her to make the sweet treats and perfect details for the shower, and she didn't disappoint! {Thanks, K!}

Chocolate cupcakes with yummy blue icing, complete with an "oh BOY!" glitter pennant

How awesome are the food labels: labels (backed with glitter) stuck in a mason jar

Veggie cups, with ranch dressing, cherry tomatoes, sugar-snap peas, yellow bell pepper and a carrot.

Salted caramels {everything is good, but these are AMAZING}

Jam thumbrints

Party punch, made by one of the other hostesses

Darling "B-O-Y" mantle decor
You can't tell from here, but the clothespins were itsy bitsy and were made out of silver glitter! Details, details, details!

Even the name tags carried the "oh BOY!" theme

Sparkle sandwich cookies {blue, of course!} with glitter tags as a party favor

"Please take one!"

Not only are the sparkle sandwich cookies yummy, they're cute, too!

And the tags!!! I am obsessed.

Savannah truly loved the beautiful shower and she got the most amazing gifts for my sweet nephew, due in July.

We just adore Savannah and can't wait to meet this precious baby.

And speaking of children, our pastor said something today during the service that really stuck with me: "Your children don't become who you want them to be, they become who you are." Talk about leaving a spiritual legacy, no?

This was also in our bulletin and I thought it was beautiful. I'm going to cut it out and put it on our fridge as a good reminder.

Today is Cinco de Mayo, and I totally didn't plan for it at all! #wifeyfail
We'll have tacos for dinner tomorrow, I guess! Ha!

How was your weekend?
