Well, the cat's outta the bag!

Well, the cat's outta the bag:

{Ghetto fabulous, anyone?}

And this is how I feel about it:

Starting Tuesday, I'm the new Communications Coordinator for a school district in our area.

I'mma have me my own office with a door and everything! Clearly it's the little things.

No, but seriously, it was time. Time to move on, time to have a better work-life balance and all of that mumbo jumbo.

The best part? I get to follow the school calendar, so say hello to time off at Spring Break, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas and even Fridays off in the summer. I'mma just toast myself with some wine on a workweek, y'all. {Gettin' cray up in hurr!}

{Clearly I'm being facetious and y'all know that I would never say, "I'mma" in real life! And that I actually speak like a normal human being!}

This was my motto in searching for this job {well, sorta since it kind of fell in my lap} and I'll be darned if it's not about to be my new life motto!

Have a fabulous Tuesday!

Oscar Hits & Misses

I always love the Oscars, but I thought this year was boooooring with a capital B. Where were Tina Fey and Amy Adams when you need them?

I'm super sad that Les Miserables {one of my favorite movies in the world} didn't win Best Picture, but Argo was good, too, so I guess I'm okay with it. Not that it's my decision anyway! Ha!

Moving on, here are the looks I thought were stunning on the red carpet:

Amy Adams, Oscar de la Renta (my second favorite look of the whole night)

Jessica Chastain, Georgio Armani (my favorite look of the whole night)

Reese Witherspoon, Louis Vuitton (and her hair was my favorite of the night!)

Sally Field, Valentino (I thought this was so age-appropriate and her hair was lovely)

Jennifer Hudson, Roberto Cavalli (holy skinny minny!)

Naomi Watts, Armani Prive (stunning)

Nicole Kidman, L'Wren Scott (didn't like this at first, but it grew on me)

Jennifer Aniston, Valentino (love her in anything she wears)

Jamie Foxx's daughter, Corinne, TBD (she is so pretty and I loved that dress!)

And here are the looks that were a 'no' for me:

Amanda Seyfried, Alexander McQueen (not a fan of the neckline or her hair)

Jennifer Lawrence, Dior Haute Couture (I know a lot of people liked this dress, but I thought it was too old for her and clearly was hard to walk in.)

Charlize Theron, Dior Haute Couture (She looks like Sharon Stone, circa 1997)

Anne Hathaway, Prada (My least favorite of the night. According to my husband, "Are those her nips?" Yes, dear. I think they were.)

Kristen Stewart, Reem Acra (Three words: WASH YOUR HAIR!)

What looks did you like/not like?

Lots of going on 'round these parts as of late. Don't worry, I'll share all the details soon! {And no, I'm not pregnant.}

I was off of work, so I was able to get a few things done, including running an insane amount of errands and cleaning my house from top to bottom.

When Brandon got home, we celebrated National Margarita Day with a margarita {or two} at Mattito's

I did lots of shopping for clothes! {Love that husband of mine that says, "Here's the credit card. Go have fun."} That night, my brother-in-law and his girlfriend came over for dinner.

I'm not sure if I've mentioned it here, but Brandon's brother, Todd, and his girlfriend are going to have a baby. It was really hard for all of us to digest for many, many reasons, but now that we've all gotten used to it, we've gotten really happy and excited. Baby boy Whitacre {name currently TBD} will be here in July!

Lazy day here, and everyone has been in chill mode, including Oliver.

We went to Babe's in downtown Carrollton with one of my co-workers and her husband and babies, and I've made up my mind that I'm not eating anymore. Ever.

Brandon is now playing golf with his dad and brother and I'm lounging on the couch watching the E! Oscars red carpet.

We've seen the following movies that have been nominated for Best Picture tonight: Les Miserables, Lincoln, Argo and Silver Linings Playbook. I {sort of} want to see Zero Dark Thirty and Beasts of the Southern Wild, but I honestly have no desire to see Life of Pi or Django.

I'll be back tomorrow with a full recap of the awards and dresses, of course!

Have a great week!

{Long} Weekend

Can I tell you how amazing it feels to not be at work on a Monday? Kind of loving that I get President's Day off. I worked from home on Friday, so having that day semi-off and having today off has really extended this weekend!

As I mentioned, I worked from home, which was so nice after Thursday's announcement. Oliver and I stayed in bed all morning. {Him sleeping, me working on the computer.} During lunchtime, I ran some errands we did lots of laundry.

My office closed at 4 p.m., so I got a haircut and a massage Friday night. {Not simultaneously, of course! Ha!} It felt amazing to be pampered!

My co-worker's son turned one, so I went over to her house early to help set up the party. Afterwards, I ran some more errands and while out, I found the best new Essie pale pink: Essie "Muchi, Muchi."

Brandon played golf with a friend all day, so I came home and ordered a pizza and watched "Kourtney and Kim Take Miami." {I know, I know...}

We slept in {shh} and enjoyed the gorgeous, gorgeous weather outside. I think it was so motivating because we got a ton of stuff done around the house.

The biggest think we did was repaint this old dresser that my grandparents gave us. Unfortunately, I don't have a "before" photo, but just picture it as really dark brown...almost cherry.

The other dreeer in our bedroom is mine from when I was a little girl and I love it because it perfectly matches our cream, nailhead-trim headboard. Since I don't like the look of matchy-matchy furniture, I gladly accepted this dresser from my grandparents.

We actually spray painted it, and used two cans of Rust-Oleum's Satin Finish primer {it was like $1} and three cans of their American Accents Satin Finish Spray Paint in "Ivory Silk." I think the total for this entire project was about $10, which can't be beat!

The dresser looks awesome in our bedroom now and if you didn't know better, you'd think the two dressers were made by the exact same people!

As I mentioned, I'm off today and am loving it! Can I just say how much I love the natural light in our house in the mornings? I usually have to leave around 7:45 a.m. every day, so I never get to see this. I forgot how beautiful it was!

Hope y'all have a great day!

Valentine's Day

It's no secret that my Valentine's Day was spent at my client's corporate headquarters...beginning at 4 a.m....as they announced a merger. Needless to say, it wasn't quite as romantic as one would dare to dream, but Brandon made it sweet, anyway.

See, we've never truly "celebrated" Valentine's Day. Brandon actually called me for the very first time on Valentine's Day when the guy I was semi-dating took me out to dinner on Valentine's Day and then called our relationship off as he dropped me back home. {Romantic, right?! I like to think there was a little divine intervention there.}

Anyway, we don't know the day we "officially" started dating, so we just say March 1. And then my birthday is April 7, so it was just a lot of holidays in a row. But since we're married, March 1 is out the window in terms of celebrating...but not celebrating Valentine's Day was kind of habit...

My handsome husband called me around 10 a.m. and said he was downstairs at my company's headquarters and asked that I run downstairs really quickly. I did, and he had a dozen roses and coffee for me and all of my team members. {Swoon, right?} I told him that bringing the coffee meant more than the flowers. Ha!

It was quite a feat getting those roses home, by the way.

Once I finally got home, I felt like I had pulled an all-nighter in college. Heavy eyes, headache, achy body {sad heart}...

...so Brandon cooked dinner {steaks on the stove top, which we will never, ever do again because my entire house smells like fried food...but that's another story for another day...} and we exchanged gifts.

I win "Crappiest Wife of the Year" award, because I got him a sappy card. He got me said roses, coffees, chocolates and a cute card with this inside:

I cried so hard. My tears were out of exhaustion, love and pure, "This is the cutest, sweetest gift I've ever seen." It was so much better than anything material!

I hope you all had a fabulous Valentine's Day and got to spend it with the ones you love!

I'm a Blond

Yours truly is a blond at heart.

I am working on-site at my client's headquarters today and accidentally threw my cell phone away in the cafeteria. Nasty!!!

Weekend + Valentine's Day Prep

This weekend was an extremely hard one for our family. I don't want to get into it here {and I'm sorry for the vagueness}, but I'm just asking for prayer for all of us. We need it.

I wore my {faux} fur vest to work on Friday...and while cute, that animal was hot. I immediately came home and stripped myself outta that thing faster than you can say "stripped."

I went to the grocery store, cooked supper and we all {Brandon, Oliver and me} fell asleep on the couch watching "Dateline." We're party animals, y'all. (Optional caption: "Welcome to marriage.")

We slept in on Saturday, lazed around the house and I got ready for Valentine's Day with a February manicure:

and heart-shaped Rice Krispie treats, dipped in pink white chocolate and topped with sprinkles. {Recipe here}

Sunday we went back to our new church, watched "Downton Abbey," I cleaned the house like a mad woman and I let Boston Market cook supper. And didn't even care.

Happy Week!

Life Lately

Life lately...

Working {and lots of it!}

Continuing to attend our new church and contemplating membership

Enjoying time with our little {food loving} Oliver...or "Boo Boo," as we affectionately call him

Dying {no pun intended} over Downton Abbey

And wishing you all a Happy {early} Valentine's Day from our little family to yours!

A {Vino} Break

While these cards above are quite cute, I've taken them a little too personally in my every day life.

So personally, in fact, that I've made the {very} hard, {very} tough, {very} real decision to give up drinking wine during the week.

I know, I know. Some of you are staring at your computer screen, mouth wide open, thinking, "Why in the world would you want to do that?"

Well, I'll tell you why, and I'll tell you how this thinking all got started.

Last week, I was reading Stacy's blog when I ran across her newest post about giving up wine during the week.  Like I'm sure many of you did when you saw my bold {literally} declaration above, I laughed a bit and thought, "Well, good for you! I could never do that!"

And then the thought just kept creeping into my mind and onto my heart. It was a constant bug in the back of my mind, and no matter what I did to try to not think about it, I just kept going back to it. It sat on my heart for days. Could I really give up wine during the week? For real?

I'm about to get REALLY real with y'all here. And no judgment, mmmmkay? I love wine so much that I typically drink 2-3 glasses per night. Every night. More on the weekends. It has become my pacifier. Work sucked? Pour a glass of wine. Stressed out? Pour a glass of wine. Tired? Pour a glass of wine. It just generally became a casual habit.

I'd wonder why I was gaining weight, why I wasn't sleeping as well during the night and why my skin was breaking out so badly. Alcohol has so much sugar in it {especially red wine, my "drug" of choice}, and that alone wreaks havoc on your skin and is a clear indication of weight gain. And, while I had zero trouble falling asleep, I had a hard time staying asleep. I'd wake up at 4 a.m. bright eyed and bushy tailed {well, not really} and would be tired 24/7.

So, after praying about it, talking with Brandon about it and generally just thinking about it nonstop, I decided to stop drinking wine during the week. Please don't think I'm some sort of an alcoholic, because I'm definitely not. I know when to stop, I know when I've had too much, don't have to have it to cope and definitely don't have withdrawals.

This is just something that I'm working on personally, and something that I know that I need to do for myself, for my skin, for my sleep and for my body.

I'll let y'all know how this goes!
