Valentine's Day

We don't celebrate Valentine's Day.

There, I said it.

It's not that we don't like Valentine's Day. And don't get me wrong, we're not some bitter old jerks who hate it because it's "an over-commercialized holiday" and think that you can "tell someone you love them every day of the week."

We just never have celebrated it. Sure, I decorate for it, as I do with basically any holiday. But we don't buy each other gifts {waste of money}.

When we were dating, our anniversary was March 1 {a mere 16 days after Valentine's Day} and my birthday is April 7, so throwing one more "holiday" in the mix just wasn't going to cut it.

And plus? Valentine's Day is on a Tuesday. Boring. And plus plus? I'm not going to fight the crowds in Dallas on a Tuesday at a fancy restaurant that we can't afford.

So, I'm going to do what I always do...except next weekend: cook a yummy meal that we eat on our china {second married Valentine's Day in a row, y'all!}, drink wine, trade $.99 cards and my handsome husband will come home with a bouquet of my favorite flowers: a mix of hydrangeas, white roses, peonies and gerbera daisies.

I love that that's our routine. And I love knowing what I can expect and exactly what we'll do every year. Food, wine, flowers, comfy clothes, my husband and my house...the best Valentine's Day combination ever.

ETA: After discussing potential Valentine's Day meals with my Nana {my Dad's mom} yesterday, I just got an e-mail from her with oodles of recipes {from appetizers to desserts} I could try, along with corresponding page numbers from her cookbook. If they weren't in her cookbook, she wrote the recipes by hand and sent them to me in the mail. I love my Nana.

  1. We don't celebrate it either... mostly because in our almost 6 years together we've never once been in the same city :) OCS, NTC, Iraq, field training, NTC again. Dang Army! ;)
