'Twas a Good Year

I'm still sitting in bed at 11 a.m. on New Year's Eve. My cup of coffee is beside me, Brandon is cozied up next to me watching a{bother} bowl game, and the rain is pouring outside. And I'm reflective.

I think of 2012 and I think of the many, many highs we experienced...and yet the many, many lows we did, as well. As I'm going through all of my posts and pictures from this year, I'm reminded of all of the sweet moments we've experienced {and the not-so-sweet ones, too} and I'm also reminded of how blessed we are.

In January, we brought home our sweet Oliver and learned all the ins and outs of pet parenting.

In March, my little sister spent a week with us in Dallas for her Spring Break, and we both loved every minute of it.

A day later, I traveled to Washington, D.C. for work and brought home a huge award win for my client. What a whirlwind week!

...which, consequently, was the same weekend as Easter -- the first time we celebrated at our home church by ourselves and not with family.

My mother-in-law fell ill on Easter Sunday, so I even made my first Easter lunch.

In May, I was honored to be a part of my friend Angelica's, wedding in Austin. She was such a beautiful bride!

In June, we traveled to Livingston to see my brother, Royden, graduate from high school. He's now a freshman at Baylor and we couldn't be prouder of him!

Just a few short weeks later, my sweet Maw-Maw passed away. We traveled to Livingston and then Port Neches for her funeral.

In July, we put an offer on 114 Stonecreek Drive...the seller accepted it...and we were officially under contract on our very first house.

And then, all summer, we just waited. It was the hardest summer of my life!

Finally, in September, we closed on our house and moved in

...but not before we did a ton of work on the house

And on Halloween, we found out that our house flooded. We spent two weeks in a hotel, had to put Oliver in a kennel, and I'm 99 percent sure I was clinically depressed for about a month.

Finally, three days before Thanksgiving, we moved back into our house

In December, we celebrated Brandon's 26th birthday. Love my sweet December baby!

In between all of this was a ton of working and all of the ups and downs that that gave us, some fighting, lots of tears and even more laughs.

We never know what a year will bring, but I hope that 2013 brings a ton of joy.

Happy New Year, friends. Let's do this.

The first thing that came to mind when I typed my title ("I'M ALIVE!") was the song "He Is Alive." Innnnnteresting.

Anyway, I really am alive. 10 days without blogging? Holy moly, y'all. I'm sorry. Actually, I'm not sorry. Sorry I'm not sorry.

Brandon and I were both so very sick the week before Christmas. We're talking I-thought-I -had-the-flu sick. We pumped ourselves full of Afrin, Mucinex, Claritin and NyQuill and are finally feeling better.

Basically, our entire week looked like this:

We started the Christmas countdown with a new family tradition: looking at Christmas lights in our neighborhood whilst wearing our Christmas jammies, listening to Christmas music on the radio and sipping hot chocolate. It was wonderful!

Before we left, we did Oliver's stocking, and he was SO excited! I'm pretty sure he's set on toys for a very long time.

We took Oliver to the kennel and set south on I-45 to visit my family in Livingston for five whole days. It was wonderful; I missed my family so, so much.

We got to Mom and Dad's and just relaxed. We visited with family, watched lots of football and just enjoyed being with and around each other.

The next night {Christmas Eve Eve}, we had Christmas at my Grammy and Grumpy's with my Sasser family. I got so much great stuff, including a leopard print infinity scarf, an apron, Essie nail polish, candle holders from Crate & Barrel and some Mexican vanilla (my grandparents live in Mexico and I always beg for's so much better than the vanilla we have here).

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is that my family reads the Christmas story from the book of Luke. This year, Grumpy read it...and the story even came with maps. Ha!

On Christmas Eve, we had lunch with my great-grandfather and the rest of the Sasser clan at my parents' house. We went to Christmas Eve service at church, and then went to the local park for their interactive drive-through Christmas lights show. It was actually very neat!

We came home, watched "A Christmas Story," and got ready for Santa**.

Christmas morning came and it was AMAZING. I love, love, love being with my family on Christmas morning!

Brandon even got me the Kate Spade purse I wanted {no longer on their website}. I was so excited! I also got: Dior Pure Poison perfume, clothes, a Keurig {and K-Cups}, an awesome curling iron, jewelry, DVDs and lots more fun stuff. Brandon got a Craftsman tool chest, new shoes, a monogrammed beer cooler for golfing and a J.Crew shirt.

My sister, Maggie, got a Morkie! How cute is sweet Lilly?!

Christmas night, we always have Christmas with my Nana and Pah {my Dad's parents}. How cute is my sweet Nana?! She totally outdid herself with the meal and we all left stuffed. At their Christmas, I got my fireplace screen, the Pottery Barn large Pocket Watch Clock and a kitchen knife/scissor set.

We left for Dallas the day after Christmas and came home to snow! We knew it snowed on Christmas Day at our house and were so hoping that it stuck long enough for us to see it...and it did! We were so excited.

I picked up Oliver from the kennel {he was sooooo happy to be home!} and he immediately got cozy in his bed in from of the fireplace.

We've spent the last couple of days unpacking, getting organized and really just updating our house. We finally have time to hang things, go to stores to buy the little "extras" that we have wanted and get everything just how we want it in the house.

We also watched Baylor slaughter UCLA in the Holiday Bowl. SOOOOOOO exciting!  Sic 'Em, Bears!!!!

I completely redid our bedroom today {post on that to come} and I'm really loving it! A trip to Garden Ridge was definitely involved...

Brandon also redid and organized our entire garage {he even built a workbench!} and I'm crazy proud of him. A post on that will come soon, too. :)

We rewarded ourselves tonight with brisket tacos and a Mambo Taxi from Taco Diner. All the hard work was worth it!

We got home a bit ago and have started taking down Christmas. Our tree is still up {albeit naked}, but Brandon won't let me take it down until New Year's Day. I hate it, but that's what he grew up I guess I will allow it. Ha! We're hosting his parents and brother and sister-in-law for New Year's lunch, so it'll be down before then...don't you worry.

More posts on the house updates to come! Hope everyone's Christmases were lovely!!!

**My parents had to tell Maggie this year that Santa wasn't real. Womp womp. We were never told {just kind of figured it out} but things are so different with the baby! However, it was nice because she didn't wake up early this year and we got to start everything at 9 a.m. as opposed to 6 a.m.!**

Christmas-y Things

I realized that I never {fully} showed y'all our Christmas card, so here it is:

I ordered them from Brown Paper Goods, and I'll definitely be using Sarah in the future.

I'm still icky sick, so I bundled up on the couch yesterday to finish watching "The Holiday." Seriously, can I go back to London now?

And in keeping with my random Christmas-y things post, I am beyond excited that Oliver has had absolutely no interest in our Christmas tree, which is so odd for a cat.

Honestly? He's been most interested in the big baby gift {far right of the picture} that I wrapped Sunday for my cousin Rebecca, as it has curly ribbon on it and he LOVES curly ribbon.

Yesterday after I finally showered and ventured out of the house to run some errands, I decided to treat myself to a pedicure because, let's be honest, I have no idea the last time I got one. #embarrassed

As I was sitting in the chair, the man doing my nails kept asking me all these questions -- which is fine -- but since I kept hacking in the middle of all my answers, I figured he'd stop asking me 5,001 questions. One of those said questions?

"How ol ah you? You have baby?"

Me: "No, not yet!"

Him: "Well you bettah hurry. Yoah eggs ah getting ol so you bettah hurry up."

Christmas Party Bonanza

What a week last week was! Three Christmas parties, one Christmas with family and some sickness in between? I am worn out. Happy, but worn out.

Client holiday party at the Glass Cactus

Company holiday party at Lounge 31

Family Christmas at my in-law's

{Please excuse my face here! I really was having fun!}

I got a lovely necklace from LOFT, the Emile Henry pie dish I asked for, pajamas, a LOFT gift card, the Rewined Pinot Grigio candle I have been hinting at for-ev-er, and burlap car organizer from Ballard Designs that houses your groceries in the back of the car so they don't bounce around and/or spill {genius!}. We are so blessed.

Husband's company Christmas party at Hilton Anatole

All of that partying has me a bit under the weather, and I'm currently holed up in bed with Kleenex, Sudafed and a giant cup of coffee. Both Brandon and I are feeling icky {sore throat, cough and congestion} and are praying we feel much better by the time we head south for Christmas.

Many of you have asked where I purchased the dress I wore to my company Christmas party, so I thought I'd share: Studio 3:19. I absolutely love it!

Oh, and did I mention that I'm officially off for the holidays?! So very thankful that I hoard my PTO days. :)

I have a ton of errands to run this morning...including a pedicure, Merry Christmas to me!

Wednesday Things

Hello, random Wednesday blog post!

Last night, Brandon moved Oliver's bed to right in front of the fireplace. For the longest time, he kept staring right into the fire {"MY EYES!!!"} and then he fell asleep right in front of the fire. How precious is that?!

As we were flipping channels, we came across "African Cats" on NatGeo, right at the part where they're talking about the "cold, hard rain" in the African Savanna and how these cheetahs were so cold...and looked down to see our cat snoring {I kid you not} in front of the fire. I could not stop laughing for the life of me. He is so ridiculously spoiled!

Two girls in my office {hi, Sara!} recommended that I read the Pretty in Pink Megan blog...and now I'm minorly obsessed with it.

Per her recommendation, I ordered Diatomaceous Earth (food grade) to make my hair grow longer, faster. I think Brandon thinks I'm a nut, but I took it this morning and had to chug the water mixture so quickly, since we all know about my texture aversion. I totally psych myself out.

{Side note: I kept telling myself that if I could chug what I chugged in college, I could chug this 12-oz. glass of powdered water. Classy, no?}

And then I totally geeked out when Megan started following me on Instagram and commented on my photo {above}. Brandon was like, "Oh. My. Gosh. Calm it down!" Ha!

Speaking of hair, I rolled it like this yesterday and really wasn't sure about it {clearly, per my face in this photo}.

BUT I kept getting comments from people saying how much they liked it. Why is that? When you think you look "blah," you get so many comments, but when you go into work thinking you are looking so cute? Nothin'.

So what do y'all think about the rolled hair?

PS: My cream-colored shirt is inside out here. I didn't notice until I got to work. And then I left it inside out all day. #winning

Do y'all watch "Parenthood?" We LOVE it.

If you watch it, you know that Christina had breast cancer and last night, there was a major incident and she was hospitalized on Christmas Eve and they thought she wasn't going to make it. {Hello, longest run-on sentence ever.} She told her husband, Adam, that she had a file on her computer that she wanted her kids to see. His dad, Zeke, brought the computer to the hospital and Adam watched it. The files? Video messages to each of her children.

I kid you not, I was SOBBING at this point. Like, could-not-breathe-used-more-than-one-Kleenex sobbing. It hits too close to home sometimes!

Hope y'all have a fabulous Wednesday!

Hi, my name is Brittany and I'm a serial shopaholic.

It's about to be Christmas for crying out loud and all I want to do is hit the mall like nobody's business. SERIOUSLY SOMEONE STOP ME!

On that note, here are a few things I'm lusting after right now. Husband, if you're reading: Ahem.

Striped Peplum Hem 3/4 Sleeve Sweater

Snake Print Jacquard Pencil Skirt
Loft: $69.50

Lace Cap Sleeve Wedge Dress

Can you tell what my favorite color (or lack thereof) is? Yup, black. My sweet husband always asks when I get home from shopping, "So, is there any color in that bag?"

And by the way, have y'all seen "Mean Disney Girls?" I think I'm behind the times on this one, but it's ridiculously hilarious.
