Random Thoughts for Thursday

I am so exhausted today. I was up at 5:30 a.m. yesterday, traveled to Abilene for work, came back to the office, sat in traffic and went to the mall. {More on my mall episode later.}

So, that said, you're getting a "Random" post. I hope you enjoy.

The Pumpkin Spice Latte is getting me though today. Special shout-out to my boss for giving me a Starbucks gift card.

I'm kind of a hairspray junkie. This stuff -- that I picked up on a whim at Target the other day -- actually really works. Kind of obsessed with it right now.

I really, really want to see the movie "Dolphin Tale." I can't decide if that makes me immature or old. Either way, it's our anniversary this weekend, and Brandon just called me at work and asked if I wanted to see it this weekend.

{We're going on vacation next week, so we're keeping the actual day pretty low-key.}

Of course I said "yes." How can I pass up Morgan Freeman and Harry Connick, Jr.?

I'm really sad about Steve Jobs' passing. He was such an innovator and was so young.

I remember using the iMac (candy-apple green, of course) in elementary school and thinking it was so neat. And then, when I was given a MacBook for my graduation gift, I have since been a Mac-lover. He truly did change the way we live.

"Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn't matter to me. Going to bed at night saying we've done something wonderful...that's what matters to me."
-Steve Jobs to The Wall Street Journal, May 1993

And here's my mall story:

I left work yesterday to pick up some make-up that I had pre-ordered. I was exhausted, but I figured that if I didn't do it now, I wouldn't do it. So I went, picked it up and decided that since I was already there, I should shop for my Dad's birthday gift. Again, I was tired, but I thought, "Hey, why not?" I already knew what he needed (thanks, Mom!) so I went to Gap. No short-sleeved polos in his size. Okay, fine. Moving on.

Went to J.Crew. Again, no short-sleeved polos in his size. And in fact, they only had short-sleeved polos on the sale rack...all 10 of them. {They do realize we live in Texas and will need short-sleeved polos YEAR ROUND?!} But I did find one for $9.99 for Brandon, so I picked it up.

Moving on to Banana Republic. Perhaps they would have some short-sleeved polos in his size. Nope. And for your edification, the Banana Republic in NorthPark Mall only goes up to a size large. Helpful. Well, at that point I got distracted by their 70% off sale and purchased a cute top for myself. I left, and tried Macy's. That's where I parked; surely they would have short-sleeved polos...no matter that it could be a real Polo polo.

But no. Want to know what they had? These. Because a 51-year old man would wear these with a giant horse on the front. {Sarcasm}

At this point, I was seething! How could there not be any normal, short-sleeved Polos in my Dad's size?! So I left. I got in my car and drove home.

And it was then that I realized that I left my Macy's bag of make-up in either Gap, Banana or J.Crew. I was so mad at myself. The make-up was the actual reason I went to the mall in the first place! I was tired, my feet hurt and I looked like major crap. I just wanted to go home.

I'd be lying if I told you that I contemplated just saying "forget it," but no. I purchased the make-up and by golly, I was going to find it.

I called Banana first. Why? Because I was literally squatting on the floor looking at their sale rack.

They answered. And they had my bag. YES!

If you've ever been to NorthPark, you know that it's really hard to park anywhere near that row containing Gap, Banana, J.Crew, Victoria's Secret, etc. After stalking, I finally found a spot near Macy's {again} and got my bag. So thankful for whomever turned it in!

...and that, my friends, is the mall story.

PS: I had to order my Dad polos from J.Crew this morning. Apparently they are in-stock and in his size online. If only I would have known that yesterday...
