DIY

As you can tell from yesterday's post, I got the DIY bug...and I got it bad.

After creating the monogrammed mirror and window frame-turned picture hanger over the weekend, I decided that it was time for a bit more updating around the house on Sunday evening.
 {Poor Brandon.}

So, I re-did our mantle that I wasn't too keen on from the beginning. My mother-in-law origninally helped me do it, and while I love her house, it was just too much for my taste. So, I took a few things off, added some different things and wa-la! I loved it.

I also love the use of books in decorating, and in my house, they're used to put picture frames on and elevate a few things on tables and shelves. (Kind of like this.) Well, yesterday I decided that I was so over the book covers, and took all of them off. I love the look of "naked" books! So old and rustic kinda. :)

After moving a few pictures around, moving a few things from room to room and spray painting a hideous gold frame that I'd been meaning to forever, I looked at our little apartment and said, "Brandon! Don't you LOVE it!?" I'll snap a few pictures tonight for y'all.

And now, here are a few new DIY projects I want to try before Labor Day.

(Side note: For some reason...even though it's hotter than you-know-what outside until late October...I want all my projects done before Labor Day. After that day, I immediately get into fall and "cozy" mode.)

Burlap Pillow with Wedding Date in Acrylic Paint
I think this would be so easy to do with some stencils and acrylic paint. I plan to purchase the fabric at Jo-Ann's and the remainer of the items at Michael's. It think these would be so cute in the living room.

Silver Mirror with Chalkboard Paint
I love this look, and think it would be so cute in our house! I'm going to look for an old silver tray at garage sales, and we already have chalkboard paint and chalk. I'm going to see if I can talk my expert-at-bow-making mother-in-law to craft a cute ribbon for this.

"We Met, We Married, We Live" Love Map
I saw this and immediately fell in love!!! I think it would be so easy to re-create with a Texas map and a heart cookie cutter as a stencil, and then buy some matting and secure with glue.
Brandon and I met at Baylor University in Waco, Texas; married in my hometown of Livingston, Texas; and live in Dallas, Texas.

And now for the holidays (my favorite)!

Monogrammed Pumpkins
Love this and think it would be so easy to cut out "W's" from scrapbook paper.
Any ideas on how to get paper to stick to a pumpkin? Would you just use rubber cement?

Ornaments and Ribbon
I.love.this.
Just buy cheap ornaments and ribbon from Target or Wal-Mart, thread and hang from chandeliers or anywhere up above! I love this so much that I wish I could do it year-round. :)

Door Decor
I love this, mostly because it involves my hang-y ornaments and a can of spraypaint. I'll look for the old frame at garage sales, add on some of my ribbon and ornaments from the previous example and tie a big bow myself.
This will look precious on our navy door around Christmas, or even on the huge mirror in our breakfast nook!

Are y'all into DIY?

  1. I love all of those ideas and will be doing some myself! Is it sad that I'm already ready for the holidays?!
