"...New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of, there's nothing you can't do..." -Jay Z

Guess where I might be going for work in April?

That's right:
New York City!

I say "might" because it's an interview for a client, and I'm just praying the station doesn't cancel. Say a prayer and keep those fingers crossed, because I am just so elated to go back to one of my favorite cities in the U.S.

I'm already researching restaurants, so if you have any favorites and/or suggestions, please let me know! Right now I'm thinking Grimaldi's...Carnegie Deli...Patsy's...Magnolia Bakery...mmm.

of course this post is about the oscars.

"The Oscars to women are like the Masters (or Super Bowl) to men."

First, let me apologize for my total lack of order here this morning. I'm confident that my work computer hates me. Okay, let's begin.

Helena Bonham Carter
No honey, just no. While this is a step up from your Golden Globes disaster, I'm still just not a fan of the velvet (and that fan). While I totally loved you in The King's Speech, I don't think we'd be friends in real life. (And, your partner, Tim Burton? He creeps me out.)

(as Ryan Seacrest calls you): you look drop-dead gorgeous. Jesse James who?

Mandy Moore.
I'm a really big fan of the top of your dress, but the bottom confuses me a little.
I did, however, like your Tangled song. Are you still married to Ryan Adams?

Amy Adams
Girlfriend, you can do no wrong in my eyes. And, you just had a baby! You look awesome! I love, love, love the jewel-tone and the sparkles.

Halle Berry
As my husband said when he saw your tribute to Lena Horne: "Day-um." Agreed. Love the sparkles, love the bottom of the dress (surprisingly) and seriously, who else but Halle can pull off that cropped 'do?

Gwyneth Paltrow
Honey, I hated your Country Strong song. I'm sorry.
But, you get my vote for best dressed of the night! Love the neckline, love the color, love the little belt, L-O-V-E your hair and just love how weird and GOOP-y you are.

Hilary Swank
My verdict is still out on you. Again, love the top of the dress (what the heck is up with me loving just the tops of dresses?) but I'm not a fan of the bottom of your dress that looks like you were dragged through some ink.

I'm putting Melissa Leo and James Franco in the same category this morning. What is that category? So glad you asked:

Here's my reasoning:

Numero Uno: Melissa Leo's dress looks like she stole her grandmother's lace tablecloth from 1926 and asked a designer to make it "hip." The designer, in turn, added a high-neck collar and a funky front split.

Numero Dos: Melissa, your "f bomb" was so not an accident. Don't act surprised that you won when you took out ads that say, "Consider." I don't like you.

Numero Tres: James Franco, this is not Pineapple Express. It is not okay to act high at the Oscars.

Numero Cuatro: James Franco was just awkward. Did anyone notice his constant squinting and total lack of actually looking at the camera? He was also pulling a major "Barack" and totally reading off the teleprompter...noticeably.
Note to the Academy: don't have James back next year. Just no.

And now on to better news:

And Colin Firth, I love you. I've loved you since Love Actually. You are adorable.

Thoughts on last night?

"Do you not know that in a race, all runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way so as to get the prize...."
-1 Corinthians 9:24

Today, hubs ran in the Cowtown Marathon 10K in Fort Worth.

He kicked some major butt running 6.2 miles in one hour. I'm a proud wife. :)

{The above and below are what I like to call hubs' "creep smile." Don't mind him.}

After his race (and some free beer...hey, it's 5 o'clock somewhere), he started complaining about his knee.

We chalked it up to some pain from running and went to brunch at Taverna (one of my favorites!).

After a shrimp and asparagus omelet (me), chorizo sausage and Manchego cheese omelet (hubs), an order of Beignets and a few rounds of mimosas...

...hubs' knee wasn't feeling any better, bless his heart.

So while he got cleaned up, I called my Mom for some "what-to-do"'s and wandered the aisles of CVS.

Hubs has now downed some Aleve and is currently spending the day on the couch with an ice pack and Icy Hot on his knee.

Happy Weekending!

We'll be camping out in the living room for the rest of the weekend. Please say a prayer for hubs' knee!

things that make me smile

Bed Intruder
"Hide ya kids, hide ya wife, hide ya husband..."

Okay, so this day? No bueno.

Actually, it started out fabulously: a tiny bit of sleeping in (hello, per my Friday rule) and hubs having a late meeting, so he made pancakes!

But then, today just got icky.
So, because I'm a tad bit annoyed (and because it's Friday and my brain is totally shot), I present you with "The Best YouTube clips to make you laugh."  {In my opinion}
And if you don't laugh? Well, you've got a problem.

Enjoy. :)

Nail Salon
"Do you lie 'crit' o 'gail?'"

David After Dentist
"Is this real life?"

Grape Lady Falls
"Ohhh owwwww uuuuuhhhhh owwww!"

Charlie Bit My Finger
"Chah-leeee bit me!"

Miss Teen USA 2007

7 Year-Old Takes Car on Joyride

And my personal favorite:

SNL: Stefan's Valentine's Day Tips
"Human suitcase." Enough said.

"Wrinkles will only go where smiles have been."
-Jimmy Buffett

Hubs and I were both talking today about how a perfect Thursday night in college went a little something like this:

Drink wine, go to dinner, go back home and drink some more, go to Scruff's, skip class on Fridays.

Classy, right?
(My mother would be so ashamed. Sorry, Mom.)

What does a perfect Thursday night look like now?

Some cheap red wine from the grocery store, a steak dinner, Thin Mints and Grey's Anatomy.

...and lots of laughs. Like, out loud, "You sound like a monkey!" there-are-tears laughs. And some major discussions (per Grey's) about whether we think Avery and Lexi really do belong together. And when hubs' brother calls asking him to play golf this weekend, and hubs says (and I quote):

"Can I call you back later? I'm watching my show." {Pause} "Uhhh...Grey's. Yeah."

Made my night.

Better than Scruff's? I think so.

I totally forgot I ordered these from my client's daughter. They were delivered to my office today, and can I please just say one word?

Thin mints and a glass of wine tonight? Don't mind if I do.

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Happy Wednesday, y'all! I'm changing my old "Things I'm Loving Thursday" to "What I'm Loving Wednesday"...just keeping you on your toes. :)

First, I'm loving that my office was closed on Monday. It's making this week seem rather short, and I'm so excited, because we have big {fun} plans this weekend!

I'm loving my gel manicure. Seriously, I got this Saturday and there is not one chip. Not one. And they're still so shiny! I think I'm officially addicted.

I love our weekly meal planning "menus!" This really helps me when I'm making my grocery list on Sunday afternoons. Seriously, y'all. I write down what we're going to eat every meal of every day, and that is all I can buy at Tom Thumb. It really helps us save money at the grocery, and definitely makes evening meals much quicker and a no-brainer!

If you want to print these little cuties out for yourself, visit The Project Girl.

Not only do I love Words with Friends, I love playing the hubs and beating him! I played a word for 54 points the other day and beat him for the first time. It's the little things...

I don't know about y'all, but I love Jen Aniston's new haircut! It reminds me of the Gwyneth haircut of yore.

I am soooo excited that the Oscars are this Sunday! Actually, I'm sooo excited about the red carpet. That's the best part anyway. And, I must say that I'm rallying for "The King's Speech" to win Best Picture.

Side note: If you haven't seen "The King's Speech," get to the, now...because it's seriously freaking awesome.

Anyway, happy Wednesday, y'all! I hope you have a fabulous day! What are you loving today?

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

Today was just one of those days. (Cue The Shirelles singing "Mamma Said.")

You know, one of those days where your irritation level is higher than normal? One of those days where you just want to sit at your desk and you pray that no one comes to find you, because if they did and asked you to do something, you'd totally bite their head off? Yep, it's been one of those days. And before you ask, no, I have no idea why!

But, as I sit here munching on my apple, I look over at my little bulletin board housed on my cube wall. And what do I see?

That cute little pink sticky note right there. See it? Right next to my second love, George W.?
It says, "I'll miss your face!"

And it made me smile.

My sweet friend Anna likes to wander back to my desk from time to time, and if I'm not here, she'll steal one of my sticky notes (this week they're yellow) and write some sort of funny note and stick it smack-dab in the middle of my computer screen.

This one wasn't from today. It was actually left for me the day before I left for my wedding/honeymoon. But you know what? Glancing at that today just made me realize that good friends...really good, genuine friends, are hard to come by. Especially good work friends. Especially good work friends who stick sticky notes on your computer when you're in meetings or about to get all married and stuff. :)

So, Anna (or as we like to say, "boo,") thank you for my sweet notes!

On another note (I made a funny), I'm so excited to cook this for sweet hubs tonight! Call me silly, but the five year-old in me just got super excited. Paired with some Kraft Homestyle Mac 'n' Cheese? Kindergarten is calling.

Spring Cleaning!

I don't know how the weather is where you are, but where I am it is B-E-A-youuuuteeeful. (Name that movie!) It feels like spring in February, and I couldn't be more thankful for the sunshine, warm breezes and heat! (I'm sure I'm going to be complaining in about two months, but for right now I'm drinking it up!)

And again, I don't know about you, but the second the weather starts getting warmer, I crave spring cleaning. Weird, I know. I also want lighter meals, change out my "winter" spice candles with gardenia ones, and fold up the think blankets on the couch and replace them with lighter ones.

So, since I didn't have to work today (thankyouverymuch, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington!), I got a head start on that spring cleaning.

Yes, those are two garbage bags stuffed to the brim (I'm pretty sure it took all my might to move them from our guest room to the "living" room) with clothes. And I put that in quotation marks because do you really have a living room in an apartment? It's just like this big huge...square.

This is the bottom drawer of my chest of drawers that used to house shorts, leggings, "cozy pants" and T-shirts. Now? Leggings and  "cozy pants" are on the left, Nike shorts are on the right. Ahhh, organization.

This drawer was chock-full of T-shirts that I've had since freshman year of college when I pledged my sorority. {Side note? Bigs: stop giving your little 9,000 old T-shirts that you hate! She will carry them from apartment to apartment and can't bear to part with them because they were in her "family," even though they're two sizes too big and say stupid crap on them. Stepping off my pedestal now.}
Anyway, this drawer now has long-sleeved shirts on the right (and no, I couldn't bear to part with my favorite, broken-in Kappa Sig formal shirt from 2006) and short-sleeved ones on the left.

And here's hubs' closet. Color-coordinated. All shirts turned the same way. All ties on the tie rack...color-coordinated.
Can I please just say that hubby did not get the type-A "clean gene" that I got? (He is a middle child and more type-B than I can deal with at times.) I can't wait for him to see this!

Moving on from my cleanliness, after lunch today with my mother-in-law at Bistro N (if you ever go there, get the cilantro lime shrimp salad. It will change your life.), I went to TJ Maxx.

What did I find, you ask?

This little Free People number. Price? Originally $188. I got it for $15.

Some of you friends...ahem Angelica...need to get a Vegas trip together so I can wear this!

And this Tahari dress. Price? Originally $288. I got it for $20.

(In fact, I was talking to my friend Angelica as I was shopping and our convo went a little something like this:
Me: Ohmigosh. I am at TJ Maxx and just found a Tahari dress for $20!
Gel: Um, get it!!!
Me: Don't worry, it's already in my hand.)

I think I might wear this little snakeskin cutie at my friends' March wedding rehearsal and dinner.

I love days off! And no, not just because I can pretend I'm a stay-at-home wife and lunch and shop! :) I feel so productive! I'm off to cook this yummy meal from my favorite, The Pioneer Woman, and wait for huby to get home so we can watch "The Bachelor." (And yes, he watches it with me as Gel and I text each other about the craziness.)

Happy Monday!

Well kids, let's try this again.

I know, I know...again?!? I'm going to {try} to bring this blog back (again), because I sincerely miss it, and I miss interacting with y'all!

Unfortunately there are some people in this world who just take the fun away from everyone (in my house we call those people "fun suckers") let's just hope those people realize that we are all grown-ups and that life.goes.on. Now! Let's all do a little shake and move on! :)

Where have I been since I last posted on Dec. 31? Well, I've:

Rang (rung?) in 2011 with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law (and cute hubs, of course!)...

...Worked on Super Bowl XLV at work...

...battled the flu and a major sinus infection for the first time since about Jr. High. After two trips to the doctor, five days not working, two antibiotics, one anti-viral medication and a ton of Kleenex, I was back from the dead...

...celebrated with mimosas after the hubs completed his first-ever 5K (and now his first-ever 10K this weekend!)...

...met Chris Harrison at the Bud Light Hotel during the Super Bowl (and yes, I almost said, "Give me the rose!" but I refrained)...
...battled the second round of Snowmageddon 2011...

...traveled home for a bridal shower for one of my dear friends...

...celebrated our first married Valentine's Day with a homemade meal, flowers and chocolates (the perfect day)...

...pulled major 1 a.m.-ers for a mock new business proposal at work (hello, we won!)...

...tried tons of yummy new meals from The Pioneer Woman and Cooking Light...

...and started house hunting (yesterday) for real with hubs!

Whew! We've been busy!

I'm so glad to be back with y'all. I'm off to lunch with my MIL since I have today off work.

Happy P-day!
