It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in our apartment, and I couldn't be more excited!
I am a complete sucker for all things Christmas, so on Saturday, I pulled out our decorations and got so spirit-y decorating while jammin' out to Christmas tunes on the TV music channel "Sounds of the Season." Hubs words when he came home? "Baby! It looks so great! [Pause] I'm so glad you did this without me!" I don't think he's as big of a Christmas nerd as I am, but I think he secretly enjoys it. :)
Now that it's finally cold here, it really does feel like the holidays. I made some "Easy Soup" (recipe below) and cornbread for supper...because what is better on a chilly night than soup?...and we watched the lighting of the Rockefeller Christmas tree on TV. The glow of our little Christmas tree (that we've nicknamed "Little Guy") in the corner, the smell of my yummy Yankee candle burning, and the whirring sound of the little ornaments of hubs' when he was little (gifted to us by my M-I-L)...and we were in holiday heaven. It was perfect.
And now, for a tour of our little apartment:
"Little Guy" in the corner (with Law & Order: SVU in the background, ha!)
I love berry wreathes! The one hanging above the mirror was so easy; just buy some wire ribbon, tie around the wreath, and use a small tack under the bow to fix to the wall. Simple, and it looks so festive!
These grocery-bag & puff-paint gingerbread men were made by Brandon when he was a little boy. His mother found them and asked if we wanted them and how could I resist?
I just love his little boy handwriting on the back! How precious is that?!
And in another corner is our "bar" area, complete with red-sequined nutcrackers and a bowl (sent to us from my friend Lindsey's dad, who is currently working in Afghanistan!) filled with red and green ornaments.
Our "theme" is rather classic -- I just love the look of bright reds, greens, silvers and golds at Christmas. One day it will be fun to decorate a home, but for now, it's so fun to enjoy Christmas in our little apartment. :)
Oh, here's the recipe for "Easy Soup." So yummy (and super easy) on a cold night like tonight:
You will need:
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 3 (10 oz.) cans Minestrone soup
- 1 can Ro-tel tomatoes (I use regular, but if you want to spice it up, grab the hotter version)
- 1 3/4 cups water
- Oregano, ground thyme, garlic salt to taste
- Brown the meat
- Open the cans of soup and tomatoes; pour into a pot on the stove.
- Add the meat and the water, then oregano, ground thyme and garlic salt to your taste. (We love thyme, so I add more of this.)
- Simmer on medium-low for about 10 minutes. Serve with cornbread.
